If this is even poorer than ROTF prime, it surely cannot handle even the Buster prime. Looks like I am right, Hasbro's QC has gone down a lot (This is a joint hasbro/takara product) Expect the 3p/KOs to take advantage of this with a vengeance.
I didn't watch the whole thing, but skipping around it looks like this guy is throwing bombs for hits. He complains (for example) that the hood of the truck doesn't stay down when nothing is pegged in and the arms are missing (the inside of the truck front). Well, OF COURSE it won't stay down, you took out the solid parts they peg in to! I'd say we should wait till we have the toy in hand (or at least more reviewers have it) before declaring the toy a failure.
I think the gripes are minor ,although hardly a perfect figure, it looks amazing in robot mode, die cast doesnt hurt. I am sold if/when there's a sale.
Maybe you should watch the whole video. He showed before that how the top woudn't stay pegged to the arms. He'd push it down, it'd just spring back up. The part without the arms was to show WHY it kept popping back up. It pegs together at an upward angle instead of straight.
The guy lost me at robot mode is what we're looking for in a Transformer. But he did point out things I would look for in alt mode.
Yeesh, that half-painted business is unforgivable on an MP figure. As is all that ugly grey plastic throughout bot mode. I was quite excited about this figure, but it's an easy pass now. So disappointing.
I really, really want to say "I'm impressed" but is this a surprise? No really a secret to anyone how Hasbro and Takara decreased quality and the cheap hollow plastic syndrome is the norm nowadays. Because of the CHPS, companies like WeiJiang are getting more and more fans.
I can't take this guy's voice for 23 minutes. It's like listening to a bunch of porcupines have an orgy on a chalkboard.
Because every other male reviewer in the world has the smooth baritones that drive the listening fandom wild... Also, at the risk of stereotyping, this accent sounds more Asian than Hollywood European. Back to the point of the review, the figure seems to compromise the alt mode for the bigger sale, the bot and articulation of that bot. But it seems consistent QC may be the bigger problem. As for the reviewer, he seems to be knowledgeable of the alt mode, the intended figure and design. Plus, he can edit footage together and keep the toy onscreen at points of interest he is mentioning at the time and provide informed opinions when comparing to other figures. He also doesn't seem to ramble on as he tries to remember which step in transformation is next as if he's doing the review live and/or can't go back and edit scenes together.
He's most definitely not throwing bombs to get hits. He's been a very helpful part of the News & Rumours thread and the figure not being perfect was a real bummer for him. And he's pretty much tried everything to make sure it wasn't something he's doing wrong or if he could find the issue and fix it himself. Pretty sure he's in Singapore which would account for the accent. He's trying to be positive in his presentation, so that with the accent comes off a bit odd. But it isn't a "personality".
See there, kids, an informed source offering educated details about the reviewer. Don't get me wrong, I am all for critiquing those who like to be the final opinion on all things what-have. If you're going to make your fame by throwing your opinion about, you'd best be willing to make a solid presentation of it. That's why I cited things like knowledge and editing. But, come on, going after a guy's voice and accent? You're better than that.
I liked his review. Very professional, if a little nit-picky, though he's right to complain when this "masterpiece" figure has more issues than the ROTF Leader, which sold for half the price.
