Let's wait till Monday. This is the fifth installment, it's not new anymore. A lot of people aren't going to rush out in the middle of the week to see it.

The opening weekend TOTAL is projected to be $36.5m. If that holds, The Last Knight is a huge flop. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

The article linked in post #140. Friday's estimate is 12.5m, with a weekend estimate of 36.5m.

I went on opening day at an afternoon showing at the only movie theater for 20 miles, maybe 15 people were there.

While fun to watch, it was just terrible in almost every way other than splosion value. If you love Transformers and know something about the history, you could follow along. If you don't know anything about Quintessons, Unicron, Nemesis Prime, or really anything beyond what the previous four movies told you, you'd be hopelessly lost.

For all the talk of a true story, there was none. You aren't going to get a wide audience for this film because there isn't anything that has mass appeal. It also wasn't very kid friendly, despite there being no blood. There was a lot of swearing and sexual innuendo, even though there were no real sexpot scenes like the previous movies. This will turn parents off from taking young kids who will want to buy the toys.

Then you have the insanity of the toys skyrocketing in price. True fans will see the movie and buy the toys, but the masses will not.

Paramount and Hasbro have failed miserably with this movie.

Still America does not matter to Paramount anymore. All that matters is Asia.

My apologies if someone has addressed this already, but wouldn't the movie opening on a wendseday have something to do with a low box office?

Didn't seem to hurt ROTF or DOTM. Or every other movie that's done it.

It could have, but ROTF and DOTM both opened on Wednesday and made four and two times as much as TLK on opening day, respectively.

Those 2 movies were also more anticipated I think than AOE and TLK.

The economics on the huge movies is pretty insane. The Amazing Spider Man 2 brings in a box office of $203 million domestically, $506 million overseas and it causes Sony to scrap all their Spider Man plans plus do the unthinkable of hey Marvel/Disney can you help us out. Batman v Superman does a box office of $330 million domestic, $543 overseas and all the stories are about how disappointed Warner Brothers is or stories of can Warner Brothers save the DCEU.

2014 was the last time Paramount had a film to pass the $200 million mark domestically so you have to wonder just what sort of overseas wildly over expectations they would need if The Last Knight does as poorly as predicted state side. Given how many other franchises they have turned into a smoldering dumpster fires it's not like they could fall back on GI Joe, Star Trek, Turtles, Ghost in the Shell, Monster Trucks, Ben Hur, or Baywatch if Transformers can't pay the bills.

Yea the new Pirates movie is out there floundering around for any buck they can get over seas, but Disney currently has the #1 and #2 domestic box office so far this year and a new Star Wars movie might give them all three top spots.

Its also getting more expensive to goto the movies.
I think a weekend opening would have done a bit better.

Why would that have mattered? It's not like there are people who say "well, I would have seen this movie, but it didn't open on a Friday."

This movie going to make less than Dead Man Tell No Tales and that's disappointing.

If this fails, there won't be any scripts left to give a care about. I can't see Paramount funding another Transformers movie for a while considering how much they put into this film.

As much as I was disappointed with the movie, it'll be a disadvantage for Transformers fans if this movie fails. Lower revenue leads to less merchandising and toys.

    Hahaha-haha-haha-hah! ..."Might"

With Spider-Man also still coming they might even get the top 4 this year. Unsure of how Justice League will do.

if ROTF is as bad as people say, then DOTM shouldn't have been very "anticipated."
