Heavyarms is definitely my second fav, but the reason I put Sandrock above is because it was my least favourite TV show Gundam design, whereas I still like TV Heavyarms, I just also like the VerKa as well. It also improved on the colour scheme. I just wish it held the swords a bit better, but honestly it manages pretty well given the size of them. I don't know if I'd get an EW version. It's not bad but I'm not quite as into those colours.
*slowly raises his hand in favor of the Wing Version Ka. Yes, it's the amazing Technicolor Mobile Suit, but I like it. Wish the MG had the better hands to hold the Buster Rifle. Bandai really missed the opportunity in the Ver EW release.
About the only TV models I still like overall are the Wing and Wing Zero, the rest I could take or leave compared to the Katoki redesigns. I just really love the Heavyarms Ver Ka for having more hard angles akin to a Ground Type unit, plus I just favor the daka over giant swords. It's essentially the EW wing Zero without the pretentious angel wings, and that's good... I just think the TV version is more distinctive.
Still need to take some photos of the final weathering and base, but thought I would post my GBWC entry this year. Didn't place, but had fun. Interesting to see so much love for the EW Sandrock given I just spent a couple months changing the kit into the show version.
Went to my local Hobbytown in search for SDs. There were no interesting SDs. So I got the Elf Bullock and Genoace, instead. They're both going to get some paint, though I'm not sure what to do with the Bullock. Genoace I have some ideas for, though.
I know what you mean. I had it sitting around unbuilt for a year, then finally put it together and was amazed with how much I liked it, since I wasn't super excited to build it originally. The anime version was probably my least favorite as well. Shenlong on the other hand I was a little underwhelmed by, and it's hard to put my finger on why. I can't stand the look of the ver Ka Wing Gundam at all though. Wing Gundam is the last one I need to build of the 5 and I'm opting for this MG above the ver Ka, Proto-Zero or the Wing Zero Custom: Amazon.com: Bandai Hobby WING Gundam Bandai Master Grade Action Figure: Toys & Games
Holy shit, that's so fucked up when I saw the pic before reading I thought "Oh they put their kits in printed plastic bags? That's novel." Glad it's not broken. I have one of each "character" of the MG Wing suits, and Shenlong is my second least favourite. It's a good design on its own, but bland, and in comparrison to the TV show design utterly devoid of character and motif. The Chinese warrior influences were removed entirely instead of merely toned down, and the new dragon... thing is a sad replacement for the extending arm. It's more like a claw hand than a dragon arm. The best part is the beam trident, but it's angled wrong if you use it with the pegged hands. Shenlong was never the most exciting of the Wing suits but the MG basically takes away everything interesting and just becomes functional, but basic. The Ver.ka Wing Gundam is atrocious to me. It takes a suit I already don't like, the Wing Zero EW version, and just throws the ugliest, most mis-matched colourscheme on it. Everyone else got colourschemes roughly approximating the TV show layouts, except for Deathscythe which got more white (which I'm not a fan of) and Sandrock (who, as I mentioned, is much improved IMO) but for the Wing Gundam it's like every part of the body needed every colour on it at once, and it's so ugly. That and the new wings and weapons just look off. The sheild is okay but the wings are jagged and geometric which is at odds with the curved and sleak body. The rifle's just weird, IMO. The Wing Gundam you linked to is literally just the show design with Katoki proportions, so it's just fine by me. I however love the Wing Proto Zero. It's the show design sleakened and sharpened with just enough added detail to make the design overall look more cutting edge and less prototypical. (ironic but prefered as far as I'm concerned) Same thing with Epyon, which was also basically the show design "sharpened." Proto Zero even has a unique frame that's thinner (the hands, for example, are smaller and not the same mould as the other GW suits) My only gripe is the lack of jointing in the wings. They can't "spread" when folded up, and are generally a bit limited. I might get the MG Deathsycthe and repaint it into show colours despite owning the Hell version, but I don't like the sheild it has. I also really want the EW Heavyarms in it's cool greens and aqua with dual double-gattling guns, but, y'know, P Bandai. :'(
I saw the post on my phone at first and thought the exact same thing. Pretty crazy that everything made it through okay. I decided to get a blue Zaku to go along with my red one.
Yeah I started on it, thankfully everything is alright But omg the poseable hands are garbage And people bitch about bandais Flashing as far as the eye can see!!!! Two of the fingers broke on the left hand as I twisted them into place, (yes I worked them free first, they still broke) so now that hand is in eternal devil horns mode Managed to get it done on the right, butfeels like it wants to break, and the joints themselves just straight up look bad when flexed But luckily the fixed pose hands look just fine Luckily that's been my only absolutely negative experience with the kit so far, though I will say glue is needed if you want solid connections in some places
Yeah, I know . Just paying tribute to the Blue Giant. BTW, the Gouf is way better than the Origins kits for no other reason than having a sculpted area for the mono-eye. I wonder why they moved away from that.
Sounds like we're on the same page. You really nailed all the little things that added up to make the MG Shenlong somewhat disappointing for me. Even the decal placement bugged me for some reason, whereas I think they're pretty much perfect on the Sandrock. I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates the ver Ka Wing Gundam. There's nothing I like about it, but my least favorite thing is the weird shield(?) pieces that attach to the forearms. They're just so bulky and unnecessary. I do like the Proto Zero, I actually have the Robot Spirits version, I just prefer the coloring and simplicity of the wings that the anime version of the MG Wing Gundam has, so I decided on that one for my Heero kit. Like you, I only have one kit of each character, so I just have the Deathscythe Hell for Duo, and I probably won't get any more. I was pretty miffed about the EW Heavyarms (though not at all surprised); if I hadn't already owned the regular MG Heavyarms I might've paid the P-Bandai price for the first time, as I love that color scheme, and the HG version was the first Gundam kit I ever put together, back in the late nineties or possibly 2000/2001.
