Nitro looks more like a Gripen, since the Rafale and Typhoon have twin engines. He's only got one...would have been cool if the toy matched his on-screen counterpart.

    YouTube (Legacy):
Nitro is becoming one of my favorite Decepticon\'s now, I just hope the removable head on the toy doesn\'t tell the fate of Nitro. But even if it does the IMAX fan event back in March (I think) had a scene where Megs picks up Screamer\'s head, maybe I fNitro fall Megs will use Screamer\'s head as a way to bring bback Nitro and/or Starscream.

It's Nitro, people are just comparing him to Starscream.

Hmmm, Nitro seems to only have one thruster, so I'm going to go with the Gripen.

Very nice pictures btw so that they can be compared.

I agree in type of the jet, but Idk why Hasbro don't make the jet more accurate.

Because of Nitro\'s bulk (and complicated licensing issues) I think HASBRO wanted more room to play with for transformation, thus the toy is no particular jet.  I\'m betting the toy has two thrusters.

II would have been cool with cybertronian jet in his case.  Either way looking forward to him.

Actually you are right! I thought he was a euro fighter Typhoon. But I see the 1 engine now. The Rafale, the latest Dassault Aviation combat aircraft: introduction

The big reason I thought he was a Typhoon at first is because of the 2 engines on his back. Which the Typhoon has.

More than likely licensing reasons. Saab is a Swedish defense manufacturer, so it could have been too pricy/troublesome for the actual figure. Hence a more "basic" design.

Aside from engines, another clue is in the canards. You can see how Nitro's are resting above the intakes (akin to the Rafale/Gripen), whereas the Typhoon's are more towards the cockpit/nose. The Rafale also has a fixed refueling drogue on the right side, while the Gripen has a retractable one on the left (no drogue is visible in this shot). All 3 are very similar in design, so it's understandable how they're easily mistaken for one another.

Trademark didn't stop G1 Dirge... guess it's Radicon time again. Which is a shame because that jet is really cool.

Oh, did I mention that I absolutely love your profile pic? (My fave anime ever, BTW)

The Nitro transformation is pretty cool. Gotta love Jetformers! That said, really wish they had introduced Skywarp and Thundercracker instead, or even the Coneheads. Would've been the perfect opportunity for SW and TC to show up, perhaps as Megatron's elite guard or even KSI clones of Starscream who had adopted some of his more interesting personality traits (a la Animated and how they made the Seeker Clones). Still, hope to see more of Nitro in action!

Just went and found that Hasbro did make a toy similar to Nitro's alt (DOTM Hatchet) without licensing. Was it really that hard to do that again?

(Or, in second thought, maybe Nitro changes alt-modes in the middle of the film like Prime and Bee often do. It's a possibility...)

so i think we can say that the serviving cons will be megs, barricade and nitro.

it's cool that megs has another flyer as his new second in comand after starscream's death.

maybe he chose nitro because he reminds megs of starscream? he seems to be sad with starscream's death afterall.

cool that atleast some cons will make it out alive !!

The toy matches no aircraft in reality. Features of several but no exact match.
