Yes, they are more than just simple machines, but to say that means that they shouldn't be called robots is also just silly.

This is a debate that has been the basis in science fiction about sentient robots since forever, though, and there's probably never supposed to be a true definitive answer to those questions (which is ok, trying to answer the unanswerable is the makings of good science fiction stories), but I agree that I like the approach IDW has been taking about who and what the Transformers are when they're not shooting at each other, even if to me the "fat shaming" storyline might be taking it a step too far into the ridiculousness, I appreciate that these comics have reached a point where such a storyline is even possible.

    No, not at all.

The series is being cancelled because sales can't support it. The editor OFFERED Scott the chance to try something different in the hopes that it would somehow interest more people, thus allowing the series a CHANCE to survive. But that's all it would have been. A chance. Odds are, no matter what kind of storyline Scott had attempted, sales would have remained the about the same and the book would go away anyway.

Oh, how I would love it if the IDW Transformers actually did have their own culture religions and mindsets, rather than just thinly-veiled human culture, religions and mindsets. How great that would be.

    Ah I see, thanks.

That kinda makes me worry about LL and OP.

I'm sure they're fine for the foreseeable future. At worst, OP may get relaunched again with another new title and another new direction at some point. I'm pretty sure IDW can keep at least two books alive.

Nevertheless, this concept is not as ungrounded as some makes it out to be. And what if there's such a subtext? Firstly it's not bad unless represented badly, like saying being overweight is absolutely good and should never be reproached, but we'd never know because it won't exist. Secondly if you don't like the simile you can just ignore it, since the it is not necessary in understanding the story or the concept. It'd only be bad if handled badly, not necessarily.

It is funny that people are arguing over some hypothetical thing that is not even going to happen anymore.

Ah, I thought it might be from that series. The art style looked familiar. Thanks! I really have to get around to catching up on that series...

Amen. I appreciate the efforts Roberts especially has made to give their race a bit of cultural, biological and historic background, but wathever they are they are not humans.
I prefer the background writers give them to have some creativity put into it and not just quote :"thinly veiled human culture".

I honestly hope you and other fans get this. As I posted earlier, nothing seems more impossibly dull than a Wheel of Time/LOTR style hard sci fi take.

However, I do love that this fandom is so diverse. Everyone should have a shot :)

Lord of the rings hard sci fi ???
I've never read the books, so they might have good worldbuilding. But if the movies are at least pretty faithfull to the books i'll pass.

I do think there is a place for hard sci fi Transformers stories.
They would have to be text only and maybe exclusive content to be viable financially, but i think they could have a place in this franchise.

There should have been an *OR before 'hard sci fi' in there. ;)

    Apologies.

One could see this as a microcosm of a bigger problem with idw. In particular and the comic book industry as a whole.

1: comics are having a harder time bringing in new readers.
When was the last time you saw a comic book on a newstand or magazine rack at your grocery store? (Last I saw one I was 9, I'm 31 now) the only place to get
physical books are in the specialty comic book shops (or trades at barnes and noble) and not everyone has one of those close to them.
Sure digital distribution is a thing now, but in order to sell a product your audience has be aware it exists

2: Comics aren't being advertised anymore. Sure there are movies and cartoons to introduce the concepts and charactors, and that works fine for marvel and dc. But if you only watched rid, or the movies, how would you know there's a comic unless someone told you about them?

3: idw is trying too hard to be Marvel/Dc
Books get cancelled cuz they ain't pulling marvel/dc numbers. Here's the thing.NOBODY can pull marvel/dc numbers because marvel/dc have been around for a goddamned century and their characters are ingrained into our collective psychology as a fucking species at this point. (Especially now that Disneyowns Marvel)

4: enough with the crossovers and events already.
That shit was special and gamechanging back in the day, because it was rare when it happened. If big events happen every year they cease to be special. Spiderman meeting the Punisher won't pull in readers if that shit happens every third Tuesday.
Let your writers tell their fucking stories. If they have enough material to last 200 issues without running out of steam, give them 200 fucking issues.

Good points. I'm actually surprised when I take comics to read on my lunch break, and my Co workers are surprised that this or that show has a comic. It's almost like if you are not already a fan, you ate not really aware the comic exists.
As fat as having to go to a specialty store, it can be a pain. There are 3 within 20 munition where I live, but the hours are so odd. One is 12 to 5 Monday to Friday. I'm usually at work so I can't make it. If my local grocery store started carrying comics along with the magazines, I'd be ecstatic.

Glad that Scott is still writing for the RID toon. It'd be a shame to see her leave the franchise so soon.

Except it's one series out of many in the Transformers universe. If it goes on hiatus, it would have to pick up from some point in the future as the rest of the universe would've changed around it.
