Ah, good to have a name to a face! I was just about to post an update on it. Namely the finished model.

It's... it's so big... And it has BABY ARMS!

I love it with all of my soul.

EDIT: Whoop! Forgot to mention that the thing has honest to god spring-deploying guns. Think like Cybertron Defense Team Red Alert style deploying guns. They just pop out.

This thing is dumb and I love it.

I'm gonna buck the trend here and say... it depends. How much exposure do you have to Gundam anime otherwise? As a starter Gundam series, you could honestly do worse. Long-term fans disparage it because it doesn't do a whole lot new for the franchise, but for beginners, it's kinda like a "greatest hits" compilation of the original series plus a few other highlights, so it's not terrible. It has some pretty good moments for itself, especially in the first half of the series where Kira often comes off as the scrappy underdog with plenty of "come from behind" wins.

The major caveat here is that the animation, produced in 2001 originally, is pretty damned dated. One of the earliest forays into digital painting, the art is pretty rudimentary and flat at times (not helped by Hisashi "Sameface" Hirai's character art). And despite the new animation tools supposedly making animation quicker and easier to produce, that didn't translate to better production values, with a crapton of stock animation and a hefty amount of clipshows.

SEED Destiny, its sequel, only exists for morbid curiosity's sake at this point. A meandering, ill-planned, tonally disjointed mess filled to the brim with thoroughly unlikeable characters. Even the returning cast, whom you're inclined to root for, largely become a bunch of preachy, holier-than-thou do gooders with ridiculous levels of plot armour. Watch it because you can stand bad series and want to know firsthand how much of a mess they made of it, but it really has no redeeming features beside. And honestly, apart from the Legend and Infinite Justice Gundams, the mecha design in Destiny is pretty crap as well.

The scrappy underdog who can conveniently reprogram a military weapon in a moment's notice because he's part of a deus ex race of geniuses...

Honestly, the show's got more issues than just the animation, even if you haven't seen almost any Gundam. The main character has some pretty deus ex abilities (MSG had this too, but MSG also wasn't that great looking back). The issue with SEED is that not only did it try to sort of copy the original series, the original series was really damn flawed. This kinda just makes for something that is not only unoriginal, but also not earning any awards for great writing.

That's not what happened. Pay close attention in the first episode. Morgenroete was using those kids to develop the OS for the Gundams. It was Kira's programming to start with, essentially. He just thought he was working on human-scale robot motion. Once he recognized what was going on, he rebalanced all the weight coefficients and junk in his programming to properly scale it to the Strike.

It's easy for detractors to dismiss Kira's victories as "Coordinator hax", but that's not how Coordinators work at all. They're just peak humans (and not even to the degree of Captain America. Usually just more disease resistant, better suited to living in space, otherwise, just designer babies at best). Kira's early successes were largely due to the fact that he was a genius kinematics student, so he quickly learned to make his Mobile Suit move better than everybody else's, and was thus more adaptable to different situations compared to his opponents.

The major problem with Kira is when the show began he was a nobody, but suddenly that escalated to him being the "ultimate coordinator" and they tried to explain as something special about him before the series began.
There were elements of SEED that worked in the beginning but it became too grandiose at its peak, and what made these characters important and special just got washed away to being too powerful.

Anyone ever built the MG victory ver. ka? Does it have enough parts to build 2 mobile suits?

It has two core fighters if that's what you mean, and there isn't really anything leftover

So no you can't build two suits, only one with one extra core fighter and accessories, and only 2 PC joints leftover

Yeah. Thanks for letting me know. I just wasn't sure when I had two core fighters lol. I initially thought it would be just two heads to choose from.

    Newest kit!

I really like this design! Painting the cables white really helps the kit pop a bit.

I should probably watch IBO soon (it's on the list).

Ah, yeah so you get two so you can carry both halves of the mobile suit at once, it's the same for the V2

I wish I still had time to build Gundams. Luckily I still have Metal Build. Excellent, excellent figure. I am not an F91 fan but this is the best MB I have purchased.

Even Kira's "Ultimate Coordinator" status shouldn't have meant anything in regards to his abilities. It just meant he was a perfect test-tube baby.

The show was fairly restrained about this fact in the original series. But Destiny really lost sight of the characters' places in the world, and placed way too much emphasis on Kira to where it strained all suspension of disbelief.

Yeah, the Cosmic Era really pulled a reverse of Zeta. Introduce new characters whinier than Camille with as much dimension as a piece of sugar glass, gave him top billing and when the ratings dropped returned to being the "Kira duck-face Beam Spam" hour.

I gave the show credit for having more of a rose colored gray area for both sides of the conflict, but it got tiresome when it just boiled down to "Yeah, both sides are bad." and "here comes Kira and the Not-Dendrobium."

And now instead of a Recap Episode....

here's my SD Wing Gundam from long ago. because, F*** it.

I think I might ship my TB Ground with the Barzam. The Barzam is a really unique, cool lookign kit. It's parts seperation is almost perfect and it looks super articulated.

Had an itch to build so I started searching online before remembering I had HGUC Astray Red Frame [Flight Unit]. So I just did a straight build, didn't even bother with the stickers.

Anyways, as I was looking around, it really made me want new MG molds of the EZ8, RX-79(G) and God Gundam. I guess the Shuffle Alliance too, but gotta have God Gundam.

I watched Mecha G's review of the Schwarz Ritter. It looks badass (would look even more badass with all that gold painted) but is it really that ricketty?

Just like every use of that body since the Denial, its waist connection is complete crap. Beyond that mine holds together decently, and is my favorite of the 3-4 refuses of that body.
