As the title states, what are some opinions you have about the movies that you find are rare among Transformers fans? Do you want, prefer or dislike certain elements that you find most other Transformers fans feel the opposite about?

    Here are some of mine:
    1) I actually prefer the TF1 approach to Decepticons, depicting them as a combination of movie monsters and tactical, behind the scenes schemers, with limited dialogue for most. In most cases, the more a Decepticon talks, the more cartoonish and less threatening they seem to become. That's actually why I thought Shockwave was used fairly effectively - as a silent but ruthless hunter. It takes a really good vocal performance to prevent that from happening- the only time I felt that was with Sentinel Prime. Even Mark Ryan as Lockdown leaned a little too far into broad villainy for my tastes.

    2) While I appreciate that they've veered away from them as the series have progressed, I actually don't mind shaky cam and low-angle shots in these films. I think they really help convey a sense of scale and disaster as giant alien robots wage war above puny humans. This worked especially well in TF1 to introduce the concept. Think of the shot of Starscream standing over Sam while firing at Ironhide in TF1.

    3) I actually think Jazz was the most logical choice for an Autobot death in TF1.

    4) I'm not sure if this is actually an unpopular opinion - but if the general consensus is "more is better", I think the movies could stand to tighten the runtime a bit. AOE felt about 20 mins too long.

    I'll think of some more.

An unpopular opinion I had right up to watching Age of Extinction was regarding the inclusion of Dinobots within the movieverse. I was so against them being put into the movies (thought it would be stupid). However, after watching the movie, feel that this interpretation of Grimlock et al. entirely works on a live action level.

The constant reworking of just what "Megatron's Master Plan" is.

It was simple enough with him just wantinging the Allspark to take over the universe, but the sequels suddenly had him under orders from The Fallen, AND teaming up with Sentinel Prime, whom 'he was meant to rendezvous with on Earth.'

There was also that stupid line of, "the only way to revive him...we needed Prime, and his Matrix." That line sounds like Megatron expcted Optimus to have the Matrix and use it on Sentinel, even though for ages, the MoL had been hidden.

Plus, Megatron as Galvatron's plan to 'detonate the seed in the city and kill millions.' Optimus mentions how he'll have enough metal to build a new army...but how would Megatron do that!? I doubt he'd rely on the humans to do something like that.

Plus, the images of Megatron in his medieval garb this time around, makes me pretty sure we'll never find out how he went from claiming "I am Galvatron" in the last film, to what he's become now, simply expecting us to also believe that he probably was fighting humans in medieval times, and then, somehow ended up in the Arctic where he was frozen, when he probably had the easiest shot of roaming the Earth and locating the Allspark all those years ago!

TF1, all things considered, has the weakest story of the franchise, alongside some of the worst dialogue.

    cool topic.

My unpopular opinion is that there are days when ROTF is my favorite.

I'll add that when I saw it at midnight upon release I was furious I almost walked out, I absolutely hated it and hated that I had spent 2 years being so excited. For some reason once I got the blu ray it grew on me, It has sooo so sooooo many issues but, the forest battle, the opening scene, and some of the final battle are incredible. The film looks amazing, sounds amazing, you just kind of have to ignore the stupid shit. And for me there is enough awesome stuff visually and sound effect wise to outweigh the fact that it is way too long, has no characterization of the characters I was looking forward to expanding on : ironhide and ratchet especially, and there is no closure, do the twins live? actually who survives? We see no autobots at the end but optimus and the last time we saw the twins they were below the biggest transformer known at this point in the saga.

I cannot explain why but if I am bored, or can't sleep, or want a movie on in the background while working on stuff I always end up with ROTF, and it has grown on me despite how much I hated it the first time, and still know why I hated it.

PS nothing could compare to my disappointment of DOTM as an add on I will say I prefer ROTF to DOTM, I am sure that is an unpopular opinion as well

Hi, I'm Autobot Burnout, and basically anything I say about the fourth and fifth films is regarded as 'unpopular opinion' because I view the TF films as films first and Transformers lore second, on which counts both films already fail.

I did that with "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Even when typing out fanfic the other night, it seems to work fine as background noise. Not sure just why that is...

    YouTube (Legacy):
I disagree. TF1 has the best and the most memorable dialogue out of all the movies. I can quote that movie all day long, whereas I can't do the same with the others.

"Left cheek! Left cheek! Left cheek!"

Edit: Oh right. This is a thread for unpopular opinions.

Same exact thing happened to me with crystal skull, I think sometimes it's good to give films second chances. Some films just leave bad first impressions and I can't blame people for not trying again.

Not sure that qualifies it as having the "best" dialogue. I also didn't say that ALL the dialogue was bad.

    I'll add some..

I actually like the twins! I thought they had a few minutes too much screen time, but overall they raised a smile mainly do to the delivery by Tom Kenny, and Reno Wilson. I also don't think they were racist in the slightest.

I actually like Optimus being more ruthless in the movie verse. It's a departure compared to the comics and cartoons sure. But he's no more blood thirsty than any other action hero, and he does get the job done. plus it's not like he isn't provoked. I'd wager overall movie Prime has probably suffered the most in a short amount of time, out of all the continuities.

I also like the new designs just as much as the first trilogy designs. The lack of vehicle parts in robot mode has never bothered me. This also goes for the KSI transformations I thought it was cool as long as the regular Transformers don't transform in that style I'm fine with it.

I also really like ROTF the movie has obvious flaws, but it's beautifully shot and as others have said very re-watchable!

    1. I didn't and still don't care for autobots like Brains. Wheelie was acceptable because at least he arrived on the scene with a mission and got some kind of development. Plus I liked his design. Brains I find to be the ugliest bot design right there with Que's face. I found his presence in DOTM pointless. Same goes for his AOE appearance especially given "yup. We gon' die".

    2. I actually don't mind the fact that most decepticons died in DOTM. Should've been used a hell of a lot more but dying in what still is so far the biggest and best battle in the franchise seems fitting enough.

    3. I actually like the whole operation firestorm scene from ROTF despite the lack of robots. I thought it was cool seeing us humans bring in so much shit to take down what was really a small army of Cons. Of course later on I realized the scene was lacking entirely too much in the robot department but I still like it for what it is.

    4. I don't think TF4 is the worst out of the bunch. That still goes to ROTF. Yeah its long and juggles too many plots to handle but at least there feels like a payoff while ROTF got boring very fast after the forest fight and only picks up when optimus comes back online. Then he kills what's supposed to be cybetronian satin in about a couple minutes.

Ok, this will probably really get me some hate, but I really enjoyed Sam taking down Starscream.

Starscream is like that sniveling kid who follows behind the bully at school, and tries to use that association as power and influence, when in truth, he's just a pathetic little $#!t.

Many expect Starscream to be super bad-@$$ and be super-powerful, but he's a bit like a lot of super-cool characters people like: we elevate them in our minds, but they usually end in very messy ways (like Elvis!).

    My Top 5:

    5) Megan Fox looks like a horse.

    4) More humanoid faces = more G1 = better.

    3) Age of Extinction is worth watching at least twice.

    2) Dark of the Moon is really boring.

    1) "Yeah, I agree with Autobot Burnout!"

    Edit:
1.) When I say to my friends I like them better than the majority of the MCU movies. With only a few exceptions like The Incredible Hulk, The Winter Soldier, and Iron Man.
2.) I enjoyed Megatron's Fall From Grace Storyline
3.) The Fallen/Megatron's parallels are phenomenal. The way The Fallen is on life support after his confrontation with his brothers is similar to how Megatron ended up after his fight with Optimus at the end of Revenge of The Fallen.
4.) I found the Transformium Transformation pretty cool looking.
5.) The Humor in the Movies are hilarious.
6.) Shockwave Death at the hands of Nest, The Wreckers, and Optimus Prime showed strength in the sense of Unity.
7.) Que's Design is sweet and Sam wouldn't have been able to kill Starscream without Que's boomstick and Grapple Glove.
So from another point of view Que killed Starscream...
    *Cough*
8.) The KSI drones are very powerful in numbers. And can wear down an opponent.
9.) Optimus was justified in not accepting Megatron's "Truce".
"All I want is to be back in Charge."
10.) Optimus Prime VS Grimlock, or Dinobot VS Dinobot, battle for leadership is one of the best Fights.
11.) First I'd like to say I like G1 and The Transformers: The Movie was incredible I saw it after the 2007 Movie. AOE Galvatron creation is better than G1's Galvatron creation.
12.) I don't think the G1 Character Designs would look good in Live Action.
13.) Live Action Transformers should be detailed like in the Movies.

Bumblebee is the most consistently likable character in the movies, and I'd be upset if he didn't survive throughout all the movies. I also like the hood-becomes-the-chest, doors-become-wings, Chevrolet Camaro design even better than the original Volkswagen Beetle design from G1.

The designs are creative and really cool looking, though I admit a few could stand to be closer to the source material, and the Decepticons could use a touch more color.

What Transformers that were developed did have fitting personalities, for the most part. Yeah, Skids and Mudflap are annoying and almost certainly offensive, but I liked the personalities we saw for Bumblebee (as mentioned), Ironhide, Jazz, Jetfire, Que/Wheeljack, the Wreckers, Hound, Crosshairs, Starscream, Soundwave, Laserbeak, Sentinel Prime, and Lockdown. Optimus Prime had an interesting character progression from an idealist who'd rather sacrifice himself than slay his longtime enemy (like Marvel G1 Optimus Prime) to the more pragmatic version we love to mock today, but I feel a lot of that development could have been given more focus.

I think the Transformers being involved in Earth's history can be an interesting idea, if it's handled well in the movie.

I think Dark of the Moon is a superior film to Age of Extinction.

Oh, and I think Izabella is likely going to be the best and most likable human character so far, and I have NO problems with her calling out Megatron. :D

My unpopular opinion is that Age of Extinction wasn't a mess yes it had a lot going on but they bring those elements together. KSI, Lockdown, Galvatron, Cemetery wind, the seed and the creators all tie effortlessly together into a single whole. Cemetery wind is working with Lockdown to hunt down the Autobots and use their materials to build their own transformers however they are unknowingly being manipulated by Megatron to build a new army. It ties effortlessly together Lockdown is working with them in order to capture optimus for the creators, in exchange he'll give them a seed built by the creators, the KSI project was started by the discovery of a rare metal left behind by a cyberforming process done by the creators, Megatron seeks to repeat this same event using the seed.

Sounds pretty seamless to me everything ties back to the creators in some form. Even beyond that the Autobots being hunted, KSI and Galvatron are the same story. They are hunting them to build their own transformers, Galvatron is one of KSI's drones built by extracting data from Megatron's head which he possesses. It's a single idea even Lockdown is still with cemetery wind and has the seed KSI want. Galvatron relates thematically to the creators and how they built the transformers. I don't see how it didn't bring all these plot points together in fact it balances them and ties them together so well that they aren't even separate plot points.
