Seems likely along those lines, gonna be interesting for sure what they do with their creative freedom
prequel sounds like it'd be best, i'd love to see the gelflings fighting back as a series. and more of what used to be their world before it was all destroyed by Skeksis. Also, this is a total failure if it does not include vulture starscream. that is a must.
I'm curious to see how this turns out. All of the creature designs and environments from the Dark Crystal are pretty rad, even if the movie is dumb. Will this be based on the comics, centered around that lady he gets the crystal shard from's kid? That would be a good storyline to follow, and those took place before the film.
What's weird is there are conflicting info about that. Originally it was said that the skeksis killed the gelflings because of the prophecy then in another part of the fiction, it says that the prophecy came about after/because the skeksis had turned on them.
I think it's a little of both. If I remember the World of the Dark Crystal book correctly, it said the Skeksis were fairly benevolent at first and friends to the Gelflings. But then they started giving in to their true nature and gradually became cruel and evil. I think it's after this transition that the Prophecy started.
It will be interesting to see how they do this. Judging by the original film any prequal will (in the long term) be kind of a downer. I mean, how often can they show Gelflings being turned into zombies? Still looking forward to it though!
Taron Egerton (Kingsman), Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones) lead the cast as the Gelfling heroes Rian, Brea, and Deet respectively. They are joined by Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), Helena Bonham-Carter (The King’s Speech), Harris Dickinson (forthcoming Maleficent 2), Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Eddie Izzard (Ocean’s Thirteen), Theo James (The Divergent Series), Toby Jones (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Shazad Latif (Star Trek: Discovery), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (The Cloverfield Paradox), Mark Strong (Kingsman) and Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), who will play other Gelfling characters. The Skekesis & Mystics will be voiced by Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song), Mark Hamill (Knightfall, Star Wars), Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones), Jason Isaacs (The OA), Keegan-Michael Key (Key and Peele), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (True Detective), Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible), Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine Nine) and Donna Kimball (The Happytime Murders). This had my curiousity. But now it has my attention.
My nostalgic self was hoping for a few more names that worked on the original movie, but when I'm realistic about it, that would be hard to do considering many are either dead or really old. I did see Louise Gold listed as a puppeteer, and she's been with the Muppets ever since the Muppet Show. She was the performer of Gourmand Skeksis in the original movie. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this.
After seeing Happytime Murders, or whatever it was called, and the cast of voices for this, that is exactly what I expect.
The original movie is one of those weird things, where, even after I’ve seen it again, I cannot seem to recall what happened in it after a few months. I remember TONS of cool little moments, but the plot never sticks with me. Evil vulture dudes. Slow walking sloth dudes. Elf guy without wings. Elf girl with wings (because she’s a girl, duh!) “Please! Pleeeeeaaaase!!” Crazy lady in an observatory. Sloths & vultures combine at the end. Crazy ugly monster rabbits to ride on. Can’t remember how anyone got to where they were going though. It’s a strange one. But I remember thinking it was good. Good enough that I’ll check out the new series.
Seeing this thread come back awakens the excitement. Cool images in the article. Even if this is a complete failure I will still love it.
My little one just watched the Dark Crystal a few days ago. It had its "scary" moments, but he liked it. Now there's more to watch of The Dark Crystal!
