I started slowing down in early November last year. I stopped getting things that I liked and thought where cool... and only have bought things that I loved and had to have. So basically limiting myself to fanstoys, mmc/ocular max, Takara

I did splurge around Christmas but I think that's ok. I realized wife was going to spend the money on something for my 10 year old.... why not road rage for $40 on amazon or mmc grapple instead of 2 big lego kits.

my experience has been what once where place holders like appollyon, Krank, or tesla....now that I'm not obsessing I'm perfectly happy with

I was spending too much. You have to find a line to draw when you do the accounting at years end and you realize more was spent on Tf's for a given year then I paid on the car loan for a 2015 Audi Q7..... shhhhh. Did I just admit that out loud

But look how cool my stuff is. Honestly it's not the money as much as it is the space..... I do keep boxes also.

Thankfully this is a safe place.

Just paid for a kbb Ramjet and Weijiang Arcee. I'm now done. Those two and DNA Susanoo are it. With the exception of a Blitzwing and a Planet X Megatron. But besides that I'm done.

I sat down a while back and made a list of all the transformers I still "need" to be done with my MP collection. I thought I posted it in this thread, but it doesn't look like I did. Probably didn't bother because I was depressed that it was a lot longer than I thought it would be! Anyway, here it is:

    jazz
grapple - Probably getting the MP but its too much for me right now
    brawn
    cliffjumper - Probably getting X-Transbots
    gears
    cosmos - Probably getting X-Transbots
    powerglide
    warpath
    seaspray - Probably getting X-Transbots
    swerve
springer - either X-Transbots or MMC
    kup - Probably getting X-Transbots
    hotrod - Probably getting FansToys
    arcee
    aerialbots
    steeljaw
    eject

    astrotrain
blitzwing - Waiting on colored prototype from Fanstoys, may settle on Gewalt
    overkill
    slugfest
bitstream - getting YM KO whenever it comes out
hotlink - getting YM KO whenever it comes out

There's other guys Id still be missing, but I have no attachment towards and would only pick up if the price was right and they were "perfect"

Completely empathize, I've spent so much in my 1-1.5 year of collecting. I need to cut back and narrow down what companies I support. Yes, luckily we're in a safe place lol

I think there will always be "that other figure" for me to buy. Recently the pace has slowed down a bit but that is simply that they run out of characters. I collect Masterpiece/Third Party mainly and I am pretty happy with what I got so far. I will see where it goes from here...Takara will finish the G1 Ark Crew and the Corresponding cons, that I am sure of. They will take their time, but they will finish.

I got the Dinos from FT and they are pretty damn close to beeing perfect representations...
Maketoys got the Headmasters and Targetmasters started, I hope they finish at least the main guys...

When the Masterpiece Combiner Wars start one day I will get broke pretty fast I think...

But no, I am not even close to be finished...nor do I think I ever will be. And that is a good thing.

Looking back at what I wrote a few months back, I'm gonna update it a bit: no, I'll probably never be done because I don't have an end goal. Unlike many others that have posted here, I have no master list that I'm trying to complete. Lately I've just been buying what looks cool to me. A month back I got the Fans Hobby MP Scourge. I don't care about the old RID cartoon (never seen it), but that figure's design just looked so damn cool that I had to have it. I also did a trade for the RID Optimus and Ultra Magnus figures, again, because they looked cool and not because I care about RID. Now I really want that Fans Hobby Doublecross because dammit, it looks cool as hell. I'll never put it with what's left of my MP Autobots (which I've slowly been selling off... my MP Decepticons however are staying put). I might put it with my legends figures as a giant robot murder dragon because, why not?

I'm an MP only collector, and I feel like I'm getting close to the finish line. I'd like to finish G1 season 1 and continue to add odds and ends from the other seasons that hit the nostalgia mark. I've found that if I don't have some nostalgia for the bot, my interest is just not there. Although there are some great options out there, I've passed on bots like Galvatron, Cyclonus, Springer, etc. They look fantastic, but they're just not for me. I did however purchase the less than perfect representations of Blaster and Perceptor as I had them as kids. It's all about which toys take me back 30+ years.

    I just finished my collection.

Ahahahaha he a he a.... That'll be the day.

Just realized the other day that I was considering starting up on the Cross Dimensions line when I previously was going to stay G1 only (and I previously started up IDW with GCreations Prime and GenerationToys J4zz)...

They keep churning them out, I'm going to keep finding reasons to expand my collection.

    *Sigh*

I want to be done. I love this hobby, Masterpiece collecting, but I want to be finished with my core cast as soon as possible. This is partly why I've dived headfirst into third party. I'm weary of waiting for Takara, when other people are making excellent toys. I'd like to get to a point where I have my shelf completed and can actually enjoy looking at them and messing with them, and not think about the missing cast. I think I can get to that point in a couple of years, and then just sit back and let most of the product pass me by, picking up only a select few single characters that interest me.

Like many others here I would kind of like to be feeling close to done but am having a hard time articulating what that would mean. Objectively, I have most of my favorite characters in some form already, with the exception of Arcee, Kup and Hot Rod, who all have options coming (MP Hot Rod is not an option for me). I'll be completing two of my "holy grail" figures soon, when my FT Dinobot collection becomes complete in a few days and when FT Omega Supreme hits. BC Brawny will fill another sort of "must have" niche for me. I keep telling myself that after this year, when so many good figures are coming out, I'll likely slow down.

Still, I keep finding myself interested in all sorts of characters and figures, like Trailbreaker and the Coneheads, that I never much cared for previously. And I would really like to have an MP Blaster, Blitzwing, and Astrotrain. I also really want an MP Skids, so that I can have an MP of each mold in the Autobot cars. And I know that if anyone ever puts out an MP Defensor - my favorite combiner as a kid - I'll be there.

A few people have asked why anyone would want to be done or slow down, etc. For me it's really just the money. I have the money to spend, but it's still considerable, and there are a lot of other things I could be doing with that money that might be more worthwhile in the long run. Even if I can afford to, I don't really think it's a good thing to keep pouring this amount of money into collectible toys that essentially only I can appreciate. Outside of this board, I have no one to share this hobby with. Meanwhile, I also have a considerable Lego collection that I can at least use with my two kids, which I've not added to over the past year or so while I was focusing on catching up my TF collection. And while space isn't a huge consideration for me at this moment, eventually it will be. It feels like ultimately I'll just have to draw a rather arbitrary line and say "this is really enough of this, let's move on to other things."

But not until a good MP Arcee is in my hands.

Much like #Electro Rush, I have no end goal. No set I'm trying to complete.
People will make really cool Transforming toys and I'll likely get a couple. There are already plenty of TFs on my shelf I had no interest in getting as a character... until I saw them as a cool-ass toy. Like, who the hell is Tarn? I do not care, what a cool toy that is.

That said there ARE a few characters that I love the looks of, and would love to get as MPs. It's a short list:
Blitzwing (both available 3P options are way too big)
Arcee (one day a really nice MP will exist)
Bulkhead (see, how is that even possible as an MP? I would have bought the Prime Bulkhead in a heartbeat if it was bigger)
Bludgeon (let's see how DNA's Susanoo comes out)
Octopunch (seems so unlikely that I'll never really call it quits)

And there it is- proof there is room for another company, be it 3P or TT to offer up another design.

The community is so big now and so diverse, it's made an awesome environment to facilitate choice. What a time to be a collector

I get the feeling that most of the popular characters will continue to get superior updated iterations, every couple of years.

Remember how blown away many of us were when binaltech/alternators first came out?

As amazing as our current figures are, they will be overshadowed by the next newer more advanced figures that have yet to come out. Sure, many will always still be awesome, as a 'classic', like old vintage automobiles. I haven't seen any signs of the quality of transforming figures reaching anywhere close to it's peak.

It's like rebuying your favorite movies, again and again. First, vhs》dvd》special edition directors cut》 bluray》4k ultra》holodeck version》and so forth.

I mean, part of me wants to say "close" but I'm also working on my THIRD SET of Decepticon MP-scaled season 1 characters (and my second set of Autobots), using all my 'alternative' character versions and duplicates I planned to sell off but didn't (e.g., Apollyon-Quakeblast1-TakaraSeekers-TakaraSoundwave, Mightron-Quakeblast2-Hasbro/YM/KBBSeekers-HasbroSoundwave, AND Despotron-Quakewave-iGearSeekers-KOSoundwave). So... no. LOL

Of course there is stuff coming out that will complete my core collection, including things that seemed impossible, like MP Omega Supreme, and true MP-scaled combiners (ToyWorld Constructor, forthcoming FT Devastator), that I am already budgeting for.

Plus, as more stuff comes out, I end up wanting stuff I didn't want before. I never watched Headmasters before this year, but now I have, so into my collection came Hanzo, Lupus, and Contact Shot is on my to-buy list.

Other stuff I'm waiting to try to catch at a discount or hoping a high quality KO comes out, like Grinder (fairly sure it will be marked down at some point), and possibly MP Megs v2.

And then of course there are now the OVERSIZED MP toys which I frickin' LOVE and which also resurrected my Alternators/Binaltech collection. Which means I have enough of the characters already that it's just "continuing" an existing collection instead of starting a brand new one, which makes it okay. :)

So I guess I'm not going ANYWHERE, anytime soon, LOL

If anything, I expect what will happen is my display focus will change. I could see myself eventually liquidating most of my non-MP, non-G1 CHUG figures (AUC trilogy, Animated, Aligned continuity, etc.), and possibly even retire my CHUG collection to the bins, to create more space for Masterpiece toys since those just plain look better and have the size and detail I want in a display. I've already stopped buying most CHUG scaled 3rd party toys, aside from a few "holy grails" (Carnifex, the MMC DJD figures, etc.). I may maintain a small CHUG display for the more interesting and/or comic-only figures, but I'm already thinking about how to re-do my MP display once I get the CHUGs out of there.
