The Steelbook edition means I can't swap out the stupid ugly modern art they used. For something of this heritage and stature printed on a metal case, the least they could have done was make it not look like a $2 American comic book cover from 2017. I'm very happy that they included the swappable cover for Japanese 1989 Matrix Forever poster on the regular edition. It goes well with the 20th Anniversary release I have which you could also swap the ugly Pat Lee style art for the 1987 European poster cover.

The Shout modern cover art is such a big turn off for me, that even at 14.69 from Amazon, I just couldn't justify myself buying that Steelbook. I'll take the original 1986 TFTM art any day. Then again, I'm happy with the Rhino DVD and the 20th Anniv DVDs quality.

I really like steelbooks. I just hope some day they release one with this cover.

Wasn't this already covered in this thread as to why they couldn't and wouldn't use that art?

Other than the MP thread or any UMagnus thread, I rarely follow any thread page by page so I definitely did not catch the revelation as to why the art was not used. I believed I made a comment to this thread in the very earlier of the page and hasn't followed again until you bumped this thread about the new price from Amazon.

Will someone with the regular release post a high rez scan of the alt cover for those of us with the steel book? I'd be most appreciative!

Have ya'll actually seen the steelbook in person? I'm not a big fan of the artwork either, but the steelbook is gorgeous. I dove in after reading the response in this thread from either the artist or the guy in charge of the remaster (can't remember which), and how the art was designed specifically for format, so it made the design choices make more sense. And I was blown away when I opened it up. So I'd recommend at least seeing it in person before blowing it off.

Yeah, I bought the steelbook and it does look much more impressive in person. The pictures online don't really do it justice.

Sorry to thread necro, but I wanted to ask about the colour issues that were reported when this release first came out. Does anyone know if Shout factory corrected these issues? Either in a replacement scheme or as a running change in future batches? I bought mine when it first came out and the other day randomly remembered about the colour issues discussed in this thread at the time and wondered if that ever got resolved?

Bumping as this dropped down the forum very quickly, hoping someone can tell me if the colour RGB encoding issue was fixed for later batches?

Not that I know of, unfortunately. I have a copy from the first release week, and it doesn't look quite right to me. It's a shame. I'm not sure we'll ever get one with better colors. I guess the best hope is that Shout got enough complaints that they will correct it and reissue it again in another 5 years or something. I'm not sure how much work goes into that, but I'm sure it takes time and money to fix.

I believe this was discussed at the Bluray forums, and as far as I know no changes were made in later batches. Was this something Shout said they would be fixing with later releases?

I don't think Shout ever publically acknowledged it but was hoping they would quietly fix it in later batches as a running change. Ah well. It's a shame an encoding error prevented what was an otherwise good looking remaster from being its best. Just have to wait for the next big anniversary when I'm sure we can expect another release/ remaster.

I was just about to order this on Bluray but one of the reviews shows it has a crappy dull blue tint. The DVD looks a lot better. So pass!

There is another, older Bluray version out there, which is kind of hard to track down. It's made by Madmen. The colors are better.

Except for the color balance, the latest Shout version did a better job of remastering in every other way though. They scanned original film and digitally removing dust spots and stuff like that. Shout really would have made the perfect version, if they just got the colors right.

Can you please share source of that information or whatever?

I'm not seeing any BD blue tint here....... (on PC, or when I watch it on my TV)
