It was. In the movie continuity at least. Not sure what there gonna do about the future though

About the dragon modes vrs the bot mode, the dragon modes definitely SHOW UP in the movie but I'm thinking maybr Steelbane is from Cybertron Knights. This is just speculation of course  

 

Prime and BB look cool, but Megatron, Crosshairs, Dragonstorm, Sqweeks (particularly Sqweeks), and Barricade all look badass.

 

Animals have all ways broke up in to sub-groups , families ect but over all they are all animals. past,present and i`m sure , the future . And I knew you weren`t being a dick   I think your right about the dragons , STEELBANE may just stay in his bad ass knight form through out the movie . I hope not , but I can totally see it .

 

No, in the movies the Protoform IS NOT a TFs Cybertronian form.

Protoforms are the "base" form that exists inside each robot. Protoforms are formed of an ultra-dense liquid metal and are extremely hard to damage.

In the rare case they are not actively practicing their natural proclivity for chameleon-like disguise (usually only when engaged in interstellar travel), Transformers shed their exo-structure (Cybertronian form) and return to their protoform state. This protoform is capable of transforming into its transition form: an armored, cometary shape capable of interstellar travel. Upon landing on a new world and transforming back into a protoform, the Transformer immediately begins trans-scanning for new alternate forms to adopt. It's funny you say that, I do remember perceiving "animals" as things that were around today and "Dinosaurs" as being something separate that were from a long ago, a didn't seem real. Although I was about 5 at the time.

I'm saying there was a time in my distant childhood where "Dinosaur" was challenging to accept as "Animal." I think dCon had a similar feeling, but just never stamped it out at an earlier age when he should have.

Don Figueroa made dozens of nice cybertronian TF's illustrations for the TF Defiance series. I always thought these were the characters protoform modes.
