Yep! I'm not even into the Filmation stuff but like I said about the old Matty Collector stuff, I want EVERYTHING made to make everyone happy. Make the obscure characters for me, but make some GD Filmation toys for others. I certainly love to tease about the Filmation characters and style, but it's pretty cool finally seeing some of these characters getting the plastic treatment.
So, backing up to my earlier concerns that the PowerCon three-pack was just random new characters Frankensteined together... turns out it's not. I am not familiar enough with the obscure side of MOTU, so I just didn't recognize the characters, but apparently they are based on some concept art that was done by one of the MOTU artists. I guess they're "known" enough that people have done customs of them before. So... cool. That alleviates my concerns about an endless series of cobbled-together re-uses, it sounds like there is a legitimate justification for these guys. I guess I 'll be getting them.
I finally found the loyal subjects blind boxes at my local Walmart. They had the full case of 12. I ended up just buying all of them. I had to go back to work, so I won't get a chance to crack them open until tonight.
I ended up with 7 different figures and only 5 doubles. I was happy to see the pink Teela. I was really impressed by these little guys. I like them more than the Turtle ones. I've got an extra Skeletor, Beastman, Tri-Klops, Trapjaw, and Evil-Lyn if anyones interested. $55 shipped.
Super 7 on a podcast said the ultimate version is partly to let people get popular characters who have crazy secondary market prices. I'm crossing my fingers for a Sorceress reissue! I'd take a filmation version to though...
I was always surprised that the Temple of Darkness Sorceress didn't sell better. I would've expected kitbashers to recolor them on account of the regular edition's shortage. But, you know, here I am trying to sell 3 stormtroopers for retail price while people in the Star Wars thread complain about never finding them in stores so what do I know about collector behavior?
Guys, when will Super 7 start shipping out the 'ultimate versions'? Is it by the first quarter? Kinda impatient for Faker!
If you haven't already, I encourage anyone to check out the Loyal Subjects MOTU blind box figures. I'm impressed with their quality and decent amount of articulation. They "deformed" styling is not something I am into, but they did a nice jobs of it where the heads are not ridiculously huge compared to the bodies. They actually look pretty good. Well, at least to me. Great paint apps, solid feel, good engineering, good joins. And they stand up well on their own. To give a better understanding of the differences in release: Wave 1 - Regular release: Skeletor - Filmatiion look Beast Man - Filmation/toy look Evil-Lyn - Filmation look Tri-Klops - Filmation look (Kind of) Stratos - Toy/Filmation look Man At Arms - Filmation look (has mustache) He-Man - Kind of Filmation look (harness is colored more silver in the middle around crest) Tesla - Filmation look Man-E-Faces -Filmation look Trap-Jaw - Toy look (for the most part) Faker - Toy look (Super rare) Walmart Exclusives: He-Man - Comic look Teeka - Comic look Beast Man - Comic look Skeletor - Toy look Evil-Lyn - Toy look Tri-Klops - Toy look Trap-Jaw - Filmation look Anti-He-Man - Comic look (Super rare) Gold He-Man - Good luck finding that one. 1 of 1. The sculpts are the same, just the paint apps are different to give the different looks. BBTS has them listed as 1st Quarter release, but I heard that this will more likely be in April. When in April is not known yet.
So I finally got a duplicate vinyl after buying 8 of them. An extra Stratos. I went ahead and painted his beard blue.
Damn looks like I missed out on Mattel's clearance sale. At the prices they had going I thought it would be a great time to jump on. It now that they are back to full price I'll just stick with my 200x figures.
I love the 200X Skeletor as much as I love the Filmation design, but for different reasons. I've always loved the Filmation look. When I got the Skeletor action figure when I was a kid in the '80's, I was disappointed that his head didn't look like that in the cartoon. It was simple, but evil. The 200X design took that and made him look like a deformed psycho. He had longer canines and a cape to give him a more sinister character to him. And speaking of character, Filmation skeleton was definitely evil, he had a wicked sense of humor and knew how to belittle his minions. The 200X Skeletor was insane. Far more demented. And for me, that suited his new look. Plus, Griffin needs a 200X skeletor to ride on him to terrorize Eternians. lol. I love the 200X designs. Except for the Power Sword and Adam. They suck. I know most will disagree. But for me, yuck. Wimpy arrogant little snot he was.
Delayed until May June, as per recent Super 7 update video. I only have He-man on order for the Toy-style Head. I'm curious about Tee-La though, the original classics release had more of a brownish snake armor, I wonder if theirs will be more bright red, like the toy.
Thanks for the update! I appreciate it! Lets hope they use the additional time to work out any kinks! I'm also curious about Teela also...I think I'll stick around for the Lo-dar wave and maybe Snake Mountain and Stridor (if both ever get released)....before calling this line quits. Its been such a ride but I'm not too keen on going further into the Filmation style as it looks too cartoony...
Yeah that is exactly what they are doing. They said they had to retool things, because they found a lot of the toolings were unusable.
