I do like the painted version of the Chrome's Titan Master but I am not going to kill myself looking for it. Refresh my memory so I don't have to search though the entire thread. What is the difference between the 2 version in package besides the date stamp?

 

Hasbro idw head replaced by Takara head

 

Why doesn't Hasbro come out with a web-exclusive "MasterTitan" head set (bad translation joke) that's like the Takara EX set for their LG heads?

 

The difference in package is the head, that's it. If you know what the Takara head looks like, that's what you gotta look for.

 

I found Chromedome with Takara Tomy LG heads in a Connecticut Walmart.

Just learned about this. The mold is nothing spectacular to write home about and I already got the original release, but god fucking damn $10 for the Takara sculpt...decisions, decisions...

 

Because SDCC Trypticon needs something to eat in his box?

Wrong heads packed was bound to happen at some stage. IIRC there was an early Skytread with the Terribull face in Skytread colours floatin around in the package.

I could understand Takara Faceplate on Hasbro Titanmaster body. Different piece, swapped over by accident in a batch. Intentional running change variation with the alternate face plate, yeah could get that too.

But this is Takara Titanmaster, with parts cast on the same sprue (red is slightly different, more glossy and chest is grey instead of brown) and with the correct paint apps for the Takara version (painted Titanmaster face, yellow jaw)

Very Odd. Interesting but since I have both anyway I'm not too fussed. Now Japanese head in US colours (slightly different red, brown chest) I would be interested.

It begs the question has this happened to any other characters?

 

I haven't found anything in my local stores. I even cast a wider net today and went outside of my typical hunting area. I found lots of new things, but I did not see a takara head.

 

Now I might actually get him!!!!If only they would also include the titanmaster vehicle too!!!!!

 

I don't actually want SDCC Trypticon tho.

This made my day.

 

Only two Chromedomes in my normal hunting grounds, neither of which are the variant. The Target still has jack squat, and WalMart is only marginally better, but does have plenty of Wave 3 Titanmasters, wave 3 Legends and a lone Blaster.

 

Checked another CT Wal-Mart. They had a stack of Chromedome....100% IDW/normal US release.

 

Now THAT is something I could really get excited about. Heck, I'd buy Chromedome and Hardhead and Brainstorm all over again if they did that. (Highbrow is already pretty Sunbow-accurate.)

 

Yeah, I'm also wondering about how likely this guy will get distributed to more than just the 2-3 reported sightings locales we see on the front page.   Yay, CA, TX, and whatever.  

But no surprise on Overlord.... he's a friggin' headmaster. Does that make sense? How hard is it to make him more faithful to the original? Or to make some Target-masters? I get sticking to the theme... but this is an adult line (15+?) and adults don't mind some incongruity if you're making the product more retro. It's not that I need G1 toys to look EXACTLY THE SAME... it's more like how the original toy had such a cool gimmick and this new Overlord feels watered down.

 

That sucks.  

You know what sucks more? When 3-4 people report something like this and it affects the bare minimum of collectors!   Ughhh, all the wasted time and gas... but I wish you luck on your future hunts.  

 

Found two at Walmart in Jefferson, Wi. They've actually been there for over a week but I never bothered to look that closely at them.

If only I was a scalper, since one of the sightings was in Orange, CA, I could probably get the variant and maybe help a few board members out.  

But I do kind of agree about Overlord. None of the leaders in CW did any combining, aside from their weapons. I get that the TMs are easier to integrate than that, but a Powermaster-style TM would still be compatible with base modes and turrets and stuff, and would only need sideways leg joints to work. Ah well, there were only two ex-Powermasters in the line, so I can see why it was done the way it was.


Well, at least we'll get plenty of pics of Overlord with face-titties.
