I'm using an LED controller with strips of flexible LEDs. Very similar to these: LED Lights and Controller

The biggest change I made is that I took apart the controller box and relocated the IR sensor. If you look at some of the later pictures you can see the grey block I made to mount the sensor. I can keep the bulky box behind the cabinet with the wiring and still use the remote (or my phone) out front. I also removed the red power LED from the controller since it would be plugged in all of the time, but that LED would never be seen. Small power savings, I know, but I'm doing my part.

The flexible strips of LEDs come with sticky adhesive on the back that just isn't very good, which is why I made the brackets to mount them more securely.

Well it is update time! I spent a good bit of time over the past 2 weekends busting my butt to get this project caught up. We were finally able to paint the area and make it presentable.

First is a panorama from my phone showing the entire basement common area.

This is the door to the utility room. I had to heavily modify the size of the door and made the casing and trim from scratch.

Same spot, looking to the right.

This is what I see when I am on the couch.

    Closer up.

Aside from some paint touch ups and reinstalling the hand rail, I am calling this project complete.
