I'm thinking maybe in two years or so they release a BOTW "Master Quest" type edition with all the DLC included and maybe a few extras. And for that they do a special edition console and/or controller. I wouldn't expect anything this year at least.

The wife got one off of ebay today. Should be here next week. I picked up the Zelda special edition for the case, and Bomberman to play with my daughter.

I've never bought a launch console before lol

My left Joycon is basically unusable even at about 8 feet away from my TV, mildly devastated.

So far my biggest issue with the console is the +- placement on the joy com. My thumb naturally goes below the home and capture button to try pause / select.

The o.s software feels incomplete but that is usual early console issues and I give it a pass.

I was very lucky I was able to pick one of these up last night... I called a local Wal-Mart and they'd told me they only had 4 in stock (not counting pre-orders). I managed to be the second person in line. I've played a couple hours of Zelda so far. The controls are still taking some getting used to but I've really been enjoying it so far.

So curious, what games did you guys pick up? How many games are even out? I was at TRU today looking for some Jakks Metroids and the only game they were selling was that stupid 12Switch game.

Probably going to pick one up next week at TRU. They seem to be getting a steady amount, so that is assuring.

    That's a little harsh.

    I'd go $5.

When I get paid next week, I'm picking up Super Bomberman R and Skylanders: Imaginators.

I will eventually pick up 1-2-Switch later on because I feel I shouldn't have to pay more than $20 at this time.

OK what gives? I paid $50 for a deposit for my Switch. But I called EB games to check if they have it and they said I didn't preorder it.

Well you can charge it in the dock right? So you can still play it on T.V whilst it charges.

I think nintendo is trying to reinforce healthy gaming lengths. So you can go outside or something.

Either way the cod can easily go between your legs as you sit, so i don't really see a problem.

    Still kinda funny though

The wifi on the Switch has been terrible for me. I've spent over 40 minutes trying to do the system update and it's sitting here at 16% so far. I know it isn't just me because my brother is stationed in Ontario and has the same issue with wifi even though he's only a few feet from his modem/router. I've never had this issue before with my WiiU or X1 but atleast with those I have the option of going wired if need be.

Have to say that the joycons in the stock grip just can't compare to the pro controller and I'm really glad I picked one up. The joycon grip feels too smooth, as if the controller could slip out of your hand. I'm not a big fan of the shoulder buttons or d-pad either. The system itself is very sleek and looks nice when docked. I imagine it would look nice on a shelf having a Wii, Wii U and Switch all standing side by side.

Having spent some time with it now, I have to say, this is a really, really cool piece of tech.

    Random impressions:

    • For me, the Pro Controller is the only way I'll ever play this thing unless I don't have any alternative. But fortunately...
    • Unexpectedly, the thing I love most about is, is just laying it down on the table (or kickstanding it,) hunching over... and continuing to play with my Pro Controller. I knew we could do this already... but somehow being able to do it in-hand is absolutely magical to me, and really drives home to me how broad the potential appeal of this thing is given all the other ways you can play with it too.
    • The Joy cons aren't that bad at all as handheld controls go. Certainly better than the 3DS or Vita imo. (For me.) That said...
    • ... the joy con grip is just not for me. And the smallness of the buttons (and especially the shoulder buttons) makes it very delicate feeling to me. The travel distance of then joy con analog sticks feels rather short too.
    • That having been said, I played Zelda for over an hour with them just fine, so they work. Which is all that matters on the go.
    • Despite Nintendo's insistence that this is a home console you can take with you on the go, it seems clear to me that - at least in Zelda's case, and just in my opinion - the software is optimized for the Switch screen itself. In portable mode, the game looks absolutely SUBLIME. On TV, even when set to its native 720p, on a 720p native display, it looks notably jaggy, especially where shadows are concerned. And as others have reported, the frame rate - again, even when outputting in 720p - does drop more noticeably in TV mode. (Still, it's stylistically and design-wise absolutely beautiful in spite of that, at least in my eyes.) To me, this is the greatest handheld of all time, that I can also play on my HDTV, and can run major third party games too, if they choose to bring them to it (even if in a somewhat compromised state - which will be less noticeable in handheld mode anyway, just like it is in Zelda.) Win win.
Okay so then there's Zelda itself. Hoo, boy.

BotW is, to me, remarkable. I can only echo all the reviews, and try to put the design philosophy in my own words. When they said during development that the world itself, and choosing how to go about getting from point A to point B was the challenge and the adventure now... they meant it in the most literal sense you can imagine.

It's a slow, methodical exploration of a vast world, that peppers in new mechanics and discoveries seamlessly without the usual "Oh, this is the part where I get THIS new ability," fanfare trope that all games (including Zelda up until now) tend to rely on.

The world is intimidating because enemies are fast, clever, and devastating to your health in very short order. So making deliberate use of the more complex (yet still utterly intuitive) control scheme and choosing whether to throw, dodge, backflip, jump, spin attack, shoot, or block - and WHEN, since perfectly timed blocks and dodges reward you - is essential. And daunting (in the best possible way) because you've never had to consider this many variables in battles before in a Zelda game.

Everything in the world exists to be consumed, interacted with, experimented with, manipulated, or discovered. And a HUGE amount is left for you to figure out, rather than being told. So much so that I almost wish it were a little more emphatic early on, if only because I fear with all the hype some may start it and then opine, "What? This is boring!" in the early hour or two before it really reveals its full depth and breadth. But it also makes the WAY you learn extremely elegant imo. It's a risk (in a game full of risks for a well established franchise,) but for me it paid off.

Just deciding where to go, how to do so, and scrounging what you think you'll need to succeed in it, is an adventure in and of itself... and most importantly, one that never stops being FUN because the mechanics are the same spot on, polished precision Nintendo always gives us, despite any other faults they may have.

And, if you're into it, and especially if you're a lifelong Zelda fan, the narrative here - while still limited compared to, say, The Witcher games, obviously (it's still a Nintendo game, body and soul, voice acting and tragic tone or no) - is actually very poignant and even downright sad. I teared up a time or two.

I don't know if I can agree with all the 10/10s, but it's definitely somewhere above a 9 for me. Where it lands depends on the next 60 - 200 hours I spend with it lol. It's definitely their most far reaching and experimental game ever, yet the truly genius thing about it to me, the part that shows Nintendo are unique and masters of their craft for all their blemishes... is that it somehow despite everything I just said... FEELS LIKE ZELDA. Not much more I can say than that, because the above and that final point in any other hands would probably be antithetical propositions. But somehow Nintendo has seamlessly blended it all.

    Very impressive.

So you can still use the Pro controller with the Switch outside of the dock? Cool. Guess I'll be bringing it with me.

Anyone know the rules for using Bluetooth devices on airplanes?

Yep, any controller synced with the Switch can work in any mode, TV, handheld, or kickstand. The joy cons (attached, freehand, or in the grip,) and the Pro Controller alike.

Ya botw is really something else. From the first puzzle the game throws at you, you know this is something special.

Will probably get fast rmx sometime this week and definitely blaster master when it launches.
