I wonder if the same attention would be given to Huffer/Pipes/Motormaster, if one of those had the same issues and came at the same price point. Let's buy it because it's Optimus, right? :rolleyes2

I admire the determination to defend an unpopular toy, but... why bother? If you like it, you like it - there's zero need to convince everyone else to like it. The Platinum/Year-of-X toys will continue to be made, regardless of how badly they sell (i.e. BM Optimus Primal), plus they're for the Chinese market (so American opinions are even less necessary).

    1) i didn't buy him just because he's prime. i bought him because i loved the level of engineering at such a small scale, and i loved how articulated he was.

    2) why bother defending it? the same could be asked of those criticizing it when they know they're not interested in it. it's the nature of forums: to discuss the pros and cons of the subject at hand.

    3) not once in my post did i try to convince anyone to buy him regardless of how much they disliked him. everything i said was my personal opinion of him and why i like him.

    4) it's impossible for you to claim that he's an unpopular toy without knowing the actual sales numbers, just as i can't claim that he was a popular toy. but the fact that hastak is rereleasing him after being sold out for that many years, says something.

I'd much rather have a figure like this with great style and all the bells and whistles than some tight fitting blob with unpainted wheels and windows. Seriously, this is a collector quality figure for collectors. At the scale, you can understand the limitations. The vehicle mode is not ideal, but it isn't really terrible. It's more abstract than anything else.

Now, what he has to do with roosters or why he needs an excessive price, you'd have to ask Hasbro. But pick up the original if you can. I've been enjoying mine for a decade.

Not really, out of the box he was posed as best as I could and hasn't moved much since - and degradation doesn't account for the lack of articulation based on kibble. He's not bad, he just can't beat this:

Come on Nevermore, don't tell me your allergic to searching online as well. You couldnt even both doublechecking before writing a blanket statement like that? This is beneath you.

YOTM Optimus Primal is on toysrus.ca's websie right now with a big "toysrus exclsuve" logo on him. The Chinese New Year items were TRU exclusive in Canada in the past and for the next year it's going to go to Walmart.

    Huh. I stand corrected.

I misremembered them not being exclusive to anywhere specific in the US as applying to other markets as well. My bad.

For the Must-Have-Every-Prime collector this is great. I've got the original, but for those that missed out it'd be great to get a US release.

Aaaaand pose #2 really sold me on this. I missed on the chance to get a hybrid so this is a nice opportunity for a desktop bot.

I guess Year of the Rooster is the Autobot Emo phase

I'm really happy this got re-released. I assumed the Year of the X release was just going to be another re-release of MP Prime, which lets face it no one needs. I've wanted this guy for a while, I actually had one in hand and foolishly passed up buying it.

Fair enough it might not be for everyone, but it really is an amazing figure, in my opinion the best OP toy ever made. Forget the Cab mode, no one cares, he's still a more convincing vehicle than any 'cybertronian' mode figure. I think the idea behind it wasn't to make MP Prime, it was to make a quality collector's item that evokes the spirit of the original G1 toy

I really feel that this is the worst Chinese New Year release yet. It lacks all the things that made have made this series interesting. It's not golden, brown, brownish yellow, or yellow, the colors of the year of the rooster and it does not have the YotR symbol on the toy itself.

It's cool that the US is getting a chance to get this toy but it seems lazy on the part of Hasbro Asia to just repack the toy with the YotR logo on the box and calling it a day.

You have an interesting definition of the word "interesting."

This is the first YOTX release that might actually sell because they didn't fuck it up with a horrendous color(blind) scheme. It's not out yet, though, so there's still time to make it pea green with fuchsia highlights or something....

Looks terrible to me but the robot mode looks decent enough. I have no interest in owning it though, and I paid about the same price for Ginrai.

Ah. When I said Joe-scale, I meant he'd be able to fit a Joe vehicle. Maybe he and Duke could pilot the Chimera from the Crimson Strike box set together!

MP-01 and MPP-10 are probably the closest things out there to Joe-scale (as in actually in scale with GI Joes). I find that MP-01 scales decently in robot mode with 3.75in figures.
