    Won't do any good.

    This.

They have no control. Just because you wish it, doesn't make it so. Learn that.

    This.

This is one of the weakest arguments I've ever seen on this topic. I'm dumbfounded. Of course Hasbro is going to go with the biggest possible form of release. When you think about all the Walmarts all over the world, plus the other multinational big chains, Hasbro really has no control over the distribution network to change the customer experience. If that were the case, no one would be bitching about not being able to find new items.

The rumor (which was confirmed, last I checked, but that's been a while...) is that the price for the Falconzord was always going to be $60.00 and the $80.00 price tag was an error, but they went with it. Both in the toy show and at TRU. It was Bandai who lowered the price due to customer complaints and TRU followed. As for Hasbro, when Walmart said jump, they said "How high?" when it came to movie toys. Animated and Reveal The Shield were both unfortunate casualties of this because the stores wanted more movie toys, not filler lines that came in in between films. If that's not telling the truth about the situation, I don't know what is. Hasbro would never dare go up against Walmart and ask them to lower a price like Bandai did.

Technically, our money never ever really sees Hasbro's pockets. The stores buy up all of the available stock, Hasbro gets their money and moves on. It's up to the stores to recoup that purchase and we do that by buying. It could be said that our purchases influence production in the long run because we buy up enough product to make room for more and so on. When Hasbro leads people to believe their money had an affect on the sales, it's usually during conventions and stock calls where they're selling their brand of bullshit to keep investors and fans happy. Heck, if we could buy directly FROM Hasbro, then they'd be getting our money. I'd be down for that, actually. I wouldn't mind a factory direct store with official Hasbro middlemen running the show so they actually get our money and see what products do and don't sell.

Some of the RID toys are clearly stabs in the dark.

Yup. Prices be goin' up. I'd imagine the Canadian prices will take a hike up Can't Afford Mountain as well.

You may be right about the two pack thing. That might be what I'm thinking of, but if I'm right, then we're thrown off by the RID two packs, which run for the same price. Either way, $15.00 for two figures of that size is an awful price, really.
And I can't blame Amazon for doing what they're doing.

Look at it from their point of view for a second...

They have to buy assorted cases, getting stuck with the lemon figures that won't sell, they have to store them which costs money. They have to deal with people abusing the free shipping by buying a bunch of small stuff just to hit the limit, rather than big ticket items and those of us who have Prime abuse the living daylights out of it buying one or two small items instead of filling the box and buying more. There's no way they're not losing money to some degree.

That, plus the thing about convenience over other aspects is another part of their plan as well. I'll be flat out honest, here, paying extra for any figure just downright sucks, especially at the prices they're going to. That said, I'm so sick and tired of dealing with people such as Timmy's Toy Box, shitty eBay sellers that take days or weeks to ship your shit and then send it the slowest method possible in which a dog dragging it's ass across the carpet would actually be faster, plus all the fruitless brick & mortar trips that have me coming home empty handed.

I'd much rather pay $16.00 for Gnaw and have him, with a guarantee, and be done with it. Sure, I could save some money going with another option, I suppose, but is it really worth it in the end? I'm not going to sit for 1-3 months for a SAL packet to float on the slow boat from China just to save possibly $6.00 off of Amazon's asking price. Heck, I'll end up spending more than that on gas or shipping over at BBTS. With Prime, I can get the figure for their asking price and state tax and they deliver it to my door, even on a Sunday. I'm sorry, I'm going to go with Amazon on this one.

Back to the buying power thing for a moment. Could Hasbro haggle with their stores? Sure. Will they? No. When you have the buying power that Amazon, Walmart and Target have (and somewhat to a lesser extent, TRU) you have a pretty good hold on the company selling you their stuff. They want you to take their product and resell it for them. A lot of stores are going to say "I want it for this price, this assortment, this number of items. Can you do that?" Hasbro says yes, the deal is done. Hasbro's not going to say "Uh, no." If they did, they'd be laughed out. Heck, they even bent over backwards to start making solid figure cases so smaller retailers such as comic book stores would be happy and could get some of the rarer items in.

If that's not Hasbro kissing a retailer's ass, I don't know what is.

Just as added information, the company I work for sells to Walmart. They are so influential in the retail industry that THEY set prices, not the manufacturer. We can pitch a unit to them for $10, they can come back and tell us it needs to be $8, and it then becomes $8. They control what goes in their stores, and every company that wants to sell through them must 'kiss their ass', so to speak.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was an error, but Bandai went out of their way to inform Tokunation that the price would indeed be $60 before Toy Fair even ended. It was still weeks before TRU even had the item, it might have been a mistake at Toy Fair but definitely not one by the time it reached TRU.

Plus Bandai rarely confirms anything, especially rumors. Hell, we went from Toy Fair in February until actual release 6 months later (through two conventions even) before we knew if the new Legacy figures included weapons or not. And that was when Greg stil worked there.

I'm just waiting for Amazon to list Sky Shadow. I want Six Shot and Overlord but something about Sky Shadow has him as my first TR Leader Class purchase.

See? Told ya guys. It's amazing how Walmart was able to pull that off. It's not cool, but it's amazing. No one entity should have that kind of power. Stores that can't sell that low have to sell the same product, but for higher and then it doesn't sell and people complain about how that store sucks. Or, they do compete and make pennies on the dollar, if at all, just to compete with Walmart's guerrilla tactics. On the plus side, however, when a store is higher in price and you can't find that certain figure anywhere else, chances are they'll have at the higher priced store because no one bought it.

I do remember the Legacy figures thing. What a mess. Bandai doesn't answer anything directly so they can easily back out if needed. The fact that we now have TWO Rita Repulsa figures shows just how much they like to back out of commitments if they can. It took nearly 20 years to finally get the MMPR version of Rita in plastic form and it was awful. Fortunately, the movie version seems to be better received so far. I think a lot of that had to do with people pushing Bandai around, which it needs. If we let them slide on everything, they'll weasel out of everything.

They clearly listen to the fans, they just don't do what the fans want all the time. Sad thing is, it's not like the fans are asking them to move mountains, they're just asking them to help them complete this set of Zords, or that team of figures. If we were asking for an entire line or production run full of fan wank, that'd be one thing...

You'll be waiting a long time, then. Amazon tends to be pretty slow about getting Leaders in. The only time Six Shot was on there was through a 3rd party seller and he wanted nearly double for it by the time you paid for shipping and it wasn't even Amazon fulfilled.

I don't have a problem with the prices going up, my issue is Amazon is now selling a figure designed for the $9.99 price point at the $15.99 price point.

Is the Hasbro rrp actually $9.95? Or is this just the usual tfw nonsense?

I got my two gnaws in the mail today. These are the two that they adjusted the price of the 9.99 for me. While one of the figures was fine condition the other one they rolled up the card and bunched it all up to make it fit in a way too small box. While I may not be a mint on sealed card collector I thought this was not a good way to ship an item. I called Amazon to let them know how my item was shipped. The response was they were just going to resend me the entire order as they could not just send me one since it was a packing problem. So now I have two more on the way. Hopefully they will pack them in a correctly sized box and not just ball them up.

Something tells me these will be in sooner than later. They just hit the streets internationally. I made my first order with Amazon Japan, legends Astrotrain should be here next week.

My problem is those figures were $5 two years ago (and $10 but you get a minicon with it). $15.99 could be the new price point for legends/cyberverse soon, and that's absolutely stupid.

To be fair, the legends we get now are much larger than the size class used to be. What we get now are almost Basics/Scouts.

And all around MUCH better. Old legends were JUNK.

But even at 10.99, they need weapons. I wish the insecticons had their guns. Hasbro just couldn't pony up for a slingshot for Wheelie. It's like they want me to spend $12 extra on Shapeways.

I remember when $7.99 was a meh sale on deluxes...

God I love the old Legends. The new ones are nice too, but at $10 a piece the old Legends at $5 were a steal.

Older Legends/Legion were awesome. Picking them up for $4-5 was so worth it. The new ones should be in the $8 range, which is what Scouts were. Even so, I'm okay with them being$10. Any more is too much.

I got legends Astrotrain from Amazon Japan today and it was packed beautifully. The box was shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard, face down, then affixed to the bottom of the shipping box. This was my only issue as the shipping box was damaged removing the figure, and I like to reuse them when I ship things out.

Does Amazon Japan charge you when the items ship? I ordered Astrotrain plus a few MPs including Primal and Cheetor and they haven't charged me for anything yet.
