So I haven't seen Transformers: Animated since it first aired on TV when I was a child.

I remember the basic plot points but a lot of it is foggy. I know that it's regarded very highly among a large portion of TFW board members.

Lately I've found myself really wanting to rewatch the series, and I've already amassed a nice little Transformers home media collection (TFTM 30th Anniversary BluRay, Beast Wars and Beast Machines Shout! DVD sets, all 4 Bay films on BluRay), so I think I'm gonna pull the trigger and add the Shout! Factory full series boxset to my collection.

I just need to know first from members who own it.

How is the video and audio quality overall?

And is it in widescreen or the cropped fullscreen format?

    Thanks in advance!

Well I think I've been sold on it.

I just feel my wallet hurting at the inevitable urge to collect Animated toys.

Alternatively, if physical media isn't a requirement and you don't mind jumping through a few hoops, you can buy the series in 1080p HD on the Australian iTunes store.

I really do prefer physical media. I consider the boxsets an extension of my collection.

I totally understand. I just like to make sure people are aware, since I've seen some complain that they can't get the show in HD.

This is such a jarring thing to read. The idea that someone watched TFA as a kid, and is no longer one now.

I keep forgetting the show is almost ten years old.

For truth. I just popped the Series DVD today and watched a bunch of the first season, which is the first time I have seen it all in years. The show has aged magnificently. And it was a totally jarring experience for me too in at least a couple ways... both my own life and Transformers have come a long ways since Animated premiered, way back in the wake of the first live action Transformers movie.

I watched it like... last year? I think. I think what's more jarring to me is that it took so damn long for me to watch it in the first place.

Eh, I was still a kid when I rediscovered Beast Wars 10 years later.

I agree with this so hard. Every time I buy a DVD or Blu-Ray of any series, what I'll get from whoever might be with me is always "why don't you just watch it on Netflix?" The high unlikelyhood of it even having whatever I picked up aside, I always tell them that so long as you take care of the disc and its player, you can keep the movie/show with you forever, which will someday not be true for Netflix. Their response is usually "sure, okay." Alright then.:throw

Glad this topic came up, I feel like TFW should coordinate a group rewatch of TFA on its 10th anniversary in January next year. I'd certainly be up for that.

I have never seen a single episode of TF Animated. Might need to remedy this. What kind of special features does the full series box set have? Any audio commentaries? If so, how many?

Several episodes have audio commentary but I can't remember which ones. Not all of them, though. They also include a few of the Animated shorts.

Any excuse is a good excuse to rewatch Animated.

Back before TFW moved house, I would sometimes sneak into the old TFA forum by typing in the address and reread the discussion threads. Good times.

Great set overall, and finally in widescreen. Honestly a must for any fan of Animated.

The "Animated" DVD set will fit right in.
