I complained about the alt mode.
While I applaud and marveled at the G1ness of it, I'm still put off by the... blockiness? Texture? Rough? Stacked lego-ish? Look of it.

If that makes any sense.

 

Bot mode should have had a backpack. Its a defining feature of the character, i'll agree about that.

I just entered "transformers kup" in google and the only pics i saw of him where with a backpack.
And the toy had a huge backpack. The G1 toys didnt always had the most aesthetically pleasing designs, but that is one instance where an aspect of a G1 toy was aesthetically pleasing. But that obviously is imo.

 

i would call what he had in the cartoon more of a buldge than a backpack, its pretty close to the main mass of his body

 

It`s a backpack . It`s utterly a reflection of the transformation sequence . It mirrors the toy in that regard . Imo .

 

It's definitely not a backpack. It's just his back. It's like Sideswipe's windshield on his back. No one calls that a backpack.

 

Yeah, I think the alt mode is awful - all the armored bits look way off-charcter/model, and the gappiness and seam-yness is REALLY clunky.

And I'm only being hard on this Kup because I feel like the vast majority of TR deluxes have been so good-to-excellent that he seems like a gigantic step backwards, in particularly with how odd-model he feels.

 

I always considered Sideswipes windshield a backpack (especially since his tech specs referred to his having a jet pack.), and even if we DON'T call Kups one, we could at least refer to it as extra mass/thickness that created more heroic proportions - TR Kup from the side has the same proportions as a 2x8 board. He lacks depth.

 

Hey , we all have a perception of things , and be them different from one another so be it . That`s the wonderful thing about the love all of us share . , We tear apart every ounce of what were given in hopes of a single truth , but rarely do we ever completely agree 120 % on a subject . Regardless of what some deem a fact .

Imo, both, "Kup never had a G1 toy like hood, or whatever one wishes to call it, in the cartoon," and, "...but this figure looks thin from the side regardless," aren't mutually exclusive comments on TR Kup.

I like and will get him, but agree with both of those comments.

 

for me the issue with TR Kup is more to do with the chest, or more precisely the dangly looking windshield (which might look better with edging paint app such as TR Blurr has)

 

When should I expect this next wave? Need Kup and perceptor

 

Wether its a hump or a backpack it would have been better if the TR toy had it in my opinion. But i'm still very exited about the figure because i love how G1 the altmode is and i wish Takara would reveal their version of Kup, Hot Rod and Sixshot like yesterday.

 

Looking at pics of Kup again, I think they definitely meant his bot mode to be IDW Kup, while the alt mode is his original G1 alt mode. Funny as the old Generations toy looked like G1 Kup if he had an earth alt mode but got weapons that IDW G1 Kup has. But then again... most Generations toys often were a mixture of elements from various incarnations of a character. Like Classics Hot Rod incorporating design cues of Energon Rodimus or Generations Blitzwing incorporating features of Animated Blitzwing. Actually I think that's cool. We probably just got a little spoiled with so many slavish G1 updates that we forgot what Generations (and thus Titans Return) was actually supposed to be.

 

Its not a masterpiece. So you got to deal with what is given. The bot mode is just too flimsy The alt mode is bulky. It is what it is. The colors and the type of vehicle do make him Kup. Other then that if they painted this red or brown or black nobody would be immediately saying Kup " in his botmode" And to me that is a bit vital. Also the generations Kup i got is a henkei and pretty damn good. I do not know if this is a great replacement.

 

Something tells me he'll be the next MP Ironhide on the grounds of opinion. Hated at first due to photograghs, but then loved when people got him in hand.
