I totally agree with what you're saying about parents being too lazy to check the rating, etc... as a parent your job is to pay attention to this stuff, y'know?

HOWEVER, I also understand the parents point of view! You've got a popular toy line aimed at young children, with a massive marketing campaign clogging up the major arteries of Toys R Us stores across the continent... but guess what... your kid can't go see it!

Think about how much of a pain this is, not for parents who took their kids to an "inappropriate" movie, but for parents whose kids are begging (in that incessant this is the most important thing in my universe right now way only kids can manage) to be taken to go see this film. It's not an easy place to be.

Not that this is much different than the toy blitz we had for the Aliens, Robocop, Terminator, and all the other properties that aren't suitable for little kids... hell I wouldn't even let a small kid browse a comic stand anymore. Seems like half the comic covers I see these days feature someone getting gorily impaled, shot or otherwise messed up. It's weird.

I guess that's the problem with marketing a property that crosses generational lines.

How many of the whinging tw*ts are actually parents? Almost certainly NONE of them.

I have no qualms about taking a kid to see this movie.... But if i heard an actual moviegoer say that their kid was creeped out or summit at one scene then i might consider reconsidering.


But i've heard sweet FA on any problem sequences.

P+G+13= Children that are under 13 should come with a parent to help them grasp the movie.

Funny...I took my 3 year old daughter to see it. I also let her play with toy guns, ropes, and knives...

 

There were some kids in the theater with me, and I think the parents of those kids had to explain what masturbation was. But i think that's about it.

I know the movie has toys but you are the parent and its you who decide what movie your kid can watch, if you know this movie has sexual references, violence and stuff, dont complain, just dont bring the kid to the movie. Sometimes a father has to be strong.

I've heard it in toy shops before..
"ah, this toys only for a 5 year old, too young for my 7 - 10 year old"

then you show em the Alternators, and say "well, this IS also a lovely display piece"

maybe an age range would be more appropriate.. like "5 - 105" or something...?!

 

That's pretty much my thoughts on the subject. It's the parents responsibility to not let their little kids see this movie, but... it strikes me as odd that Hasbro is reaching into the little little kiddie ages with Fast Action Battlers, Cyber Stompers, and Cyber Slammers, for THIS Transformers line of all lines. I'd never let a kid in the age bracket that those toys are aimed at see this movie.

 

Pirates, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Batman Begins, Star Wars Episode 3, Ghost Rider... gosh pretty much any movie with a toyline I can think of is PG-13.

 

It's all about money anyway. If they can convince adults to go see a movie about toys, or superheroes, or pirates, or whatever, by making it kind of saucy and scary, they will. If they can aim their toys at kids who will buy the toys, then there's even more money to be made. If those kids then scream at their parents, until the parents cave and take them to the movie that's "too old" for them, again, that's just more money in their pockets.

Of course, I generally don't even pay attention to ratings any more... outside of pointing out to parents that no, Pan's Labyrinth is NOT appropriate for their 7-year-old.

Besides, my province has it's own ratings board for movies, and it's ridiculously loose. Basically anything that doesn't contain violent anal rape gets a "General" rating in Quebec. I almost wish I was joking.

Based on the logic of the letter, the whole Harry Potter marketing campaign is as bad, since the movies are PG-13, and M in other countries (which means 15+), yet the books themselves are for ages 9-12. this is what happens when people who are not entertained by anything in their lives and was brought up under strict households.
