I dunno, probably. We got Super C instead of the European version Probotector (which I would have preferred), so probably not many changes. It runs via hdmi and is powered by usb, no need to differentiate the console between countries.

50/60 Hz is a thing of the past, we don't use pal and ntsc anymore these days.

I know there's no technical need for it anymore. But we've still got interlacing on stuff now that there's no need. And there's also no need for scanlines, etc, but some people insist on having things exactly the way they were, even when things were only that way due to flaws in the tech. So I was curious.

Even though I knew the game selection going in, I'm still disappointed with the games that were included. The three Super Mario Brothers and two Legend of Zelda games are the only five out of the thirty games that I had for my original Nintendo. I wish this release would've featured at least a few more of the games that I had: the two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, Batman, Paperboy, Major League Baseball, Duck Hunt, and Gyromite. Now granted, I can at least cut a little slack on those last two games since this version of the system doesn't come with either the zapper or R.O.B.

 

^ Plus without a CRT, the zapper wouldn't work anyway. (Though I never understood why Nintendo never made a Wii-mote enabled Duck Hunt port, while we're on the subject lol.)

 

Those games have rights not owned by Nintendo and Batman and the Ninja Turtles right probably would not come cheap.

 

Castlevania III and MegaMan 3, are so much better than their originals though. (MM 2 vs 3 is highly debatable, but does anyone actually think CV2 is good? Would have traded CV1 and 2, just to get CV3)

I'm glad I was able to get an order in for a FamiCom Mini off Ami^2. It makes me not have to second guess whether I want to hold on to a NES Classic; when I have one in hand versus waiting for stock to normalize.

 

I picked up an "Insten" brand extension cord for the controller from Walmart.com. It was $5 and change, and there wasn't any taxes or shipping charges. Works great, I definitely recommend it.

 

I actually have always preferred Simon's Quest to the other 2 games. It was the first castlevania game I ever played and still think it's quite fun to play. I like the selection on the system, it would have been nice to get blaster master, Castlevania III, TMNT II, Dragon Quest III and IV, Solomon's Key, Crystalis, and Blades of Steel to name a few. They should just do a version 2.0 with 30 different games!

 

CV2 has a bad rep thanks to the internet. Most people really liked it back in the day. When games were cryptic back then, it was pretty much expected. I liked it more than 1 and 3 because, back then, I couldn't get games very often. So, a bigger adventure where you had to actually explore and backtrack was more interesting than a simple left-to-right, level based action game.

HOWEVER, I played part 2 way more than 3, so 3 would have maybe been more interesting to have anyways.

 

Yeah, kids these days don't know they have to search for secrets, when no tutorial tells them to do and it's not highlighted that they can use it.

I wonder if gaming/internet culture these days is more prone to hearsay.

 

They actually could implement a Zapper, since the whole thing is emulation-based anyway. But it probably wouldn't have been worth the added cost.
