No was actually too nervous...x3 but now i just realized i could have just used my coarse then fine tamiya polishing compound and it would have made it quite smooth without the possibility of ruining the parts.

I just did grey primer and then tamiya gun metal :)

So I just won an eBay auction for the TFCC Chromedome and now I really want to get this guy to display on my shelf since he is the most accurate and affordable Rewind in the market.

I've never bought anything from Shapeways though and I understand that this plastic doesn't photograph well but I'm worried that the end result will look grainy and I want as smooth of a finish as possible.

I know sanding is an option but I haven't done much small intricate custom work and I'm worried I'd sand off too much.

I'm leaning towards the polished version since it's still relatively cheap and would reduce some of the grainy finish however the FUD set would probably give me the smoothest result even though it's expensive.

I'm open to all opinions and suggestions.

Polished strong flexible is the material I'll recommend, especially if you are unfamiliar with Shapeways stuff. Frosted Ultra Detail looks great, but it's brittle and really risky to use, as GunplaGamer can attest. However, when painted up it looks amazing.

WSFPolished. Best compromise at this point.

Just received my Trivia kit in Strong White Flexible Polished and extra head in Ultra frosted detail.

Wow. I'm incredibly impressed with the shapeways material. This is my first ever purchase and experience with 3D printing and I was not expecting it to feel so much like actual plastic. Of course normal ABS or whatever Hasbro and other 3rd party companies use is better but this comes insanely close and I can't wait to assemble this guy.

Which brings me to my main problem. I'm not entirely sure where I need to cut off each piece from the sprew. I see where they are connected to the posts but I'm not sure what exactly is part of each molded piece and what needs to be trimmed off and how. I really don't even know where to start and what pieces to remove first. Any pictures or diagrams will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks very much for your kind words and support!

As always, it's safer to cut away less than cutting away too much. The diagram below shows where the spurs are located in red. If a connector looks like a cylinder, tube and not a robot part at all, it should be safe to cut.

For spurs that connect to a balljoint ball, be careful not to cut too much into the ball. Leave a bit of a nub and carefully carve it down.

Happy assembly! Do show photos when you got him all nice and painted up!

Thank you so so much! I'll be sure to post pictures and leave updates with my progress!

I know you've mentioned it before but what is the best recommendation for painting shapeways plastic. I know you recommend airbrushing but I'm not too experienced with that.

Just finished assembling Trivia this morning. I probably should have left most of the pieces on their sprews so I could paint them easier but I was too excited and wanted to see what this guy looked like in hand.

This figure is fantastic. Sure having the entire figure printed in FUD would bring out all of the details but the Strong Flexible Polished finish it still stunning in hand. Fakebuster you are a genius! I could not be happier with my purchase.

Once I start painting the details will be brought out and some of the looser joints will tighten up but all in all I'm really happy!

Nice! The kit came together great and the FUD head is very clean. Congratulations!

Personally I use Gunze Sangyo Lacquer paints but you can use any modelling paint brand. Tamiya acrylics, Vallejo, GS, etc. Of course, practice a bit on scrap pieces before using it on the final model.

    All the best!

    Hi MaskSeeker,
I usually housekeep my library after a few months. I can put up no-cam variant again once I return home after Dec 31st?

I'm planning on buying TR Rewind (assuming I can find him over here) for my Rewind needs, but this little fella is definitely destined for my collection- as Flip Sides! The figure looks absolutely awesome, and as soon as my modelling backlog is moved along and my self-imposed TF moratorium is lifted, I'll buy it and make it into the Decepticon double agent.

I'm planning on getting Trivia in White polished, the problem is that I've never painted a figure. I think the easier way for me to do it are Gundam markers, so there's my question: has anyone tried painting Trivia with Gundam markers? Any advice?

Dye the black on him! Paint pens are't that great for large surfaces I don't think... For the chest and shoulders I might spring for enamel or acrylic paints as they're generally more durable, but I would assume there're higher quality paint pens than Gundam markers that might work just as well. I actually kind of wish I had a set of pens when I did the face on mine as it turned out a little messy.
