So am I right in understanding that the Duobots don't have individual robot modes? Sadness.

they have individual bot modes. but those bot modes are bricks with zero articulation.

does anyone else hope that the minicons from the Activators sets get released by themselves? I really want them, but i don't want the unpainted bricks they come with. (ugghhh it's armada all over again)

I really miss Eric Sienbaler, he was one of the best Hasbro Transformers toy designers.

Well that's at least somewhat redeeming. I thought they were only vehicles that could transform into the combined mode.

    Yeah...

But they still look awful. I don't think any of the modes worked out... well, maybe the alt modes?

    They just look SUPER CHEAP.

I already bought my kid RID toys... why am I buying these, again? I think Hasbro should expand the cast (a la G1's style), rather than find ways to re-sell Bumblebee, Prime, and Strongarm. :banghead:

As a parent, I think there's a limit to how many Bumblebee's I allow my kid to have. And I'm not trashing last year's toy for these abominations! I was really looking forward to this series, but they look so disappointing...

Energon did this so much better.... You got a nice deluxe (or voyager) toy that had good vehicle and robot modes, and when you bought a 2nd toy all of a sudden you could combine them with EITHER toy being the top or bottom. Your choice!!!

Yes, articulation was lacking in places, but compared to THESE they were masterpieces! And that was back in 2004-2005. Not much excuse for having less articulation in 2016...

Well, for the energon style Crash Combiners. I'm pretty sure they're roughly legion sized so that could be part of the reason they seem worse than the energon Deluxes.

The activators though.... They are rather lacking.

I can see where you are coming from. Though personally I think they should keep the established cast, but take a beast wars style approach and have them upgrade to new bodies/ alt-modes like the upgrade to transmetals. Same characters, new look, new toy.

Easily not worth however much they are, the Power Core Combiners were more appealing IMO. At least one of the parts turned into a single bot.

Of course that is as an adult collector speaking, for kids, it won't be a totally bad thing. But still, depends on price, because they do look like cheap stuff.

Looking at those activators, i wonder if the battlepacks have bit the dust. Is it RIP battlepacks? No news on them :(

which is a shame, i really liked those and wanted to see the main autobot cast finished at least and maybe a few decepticons (that aren't the minicons themselves)

Yes exactly, i am desperate to see who they would do next. Let's hope there is still some life in battlepacks...

That's a fine idea and... almost exactly what I'm talking about: new characters. Beast modes would at least be visually distinctive enough to call them NEW.

Anyway, I just meant to expand the cast or something. Remember how Animated redesigned some classic G1 characters and made them fun again? Why not do that? I don't need RID to explicitly bring back G1 SS (as they seem to have done)... just incorporate a richer cast and possibly release more variety on shelves.

And this question is pertinent: How many RID BBs do you already own? :rolleyes2  Because odds are that a lot of parents will just roll their eyes at another set of Optimi and BB - I know I do. I can literally decorate my kid's room with 2-3 BB toys per square foot! :lol

I'll second that. Mini-cons are fun. Especially the ones that turn into useful weapons (i.e. MICRONS! :D ).

I'm so tired of toys that look like springy, 1-step bricks. I'll actually take a G1 brick over these... cause at least then I'm 99% certain they're not predominately BB, Sideswipe, Optimus, and Strongarm. :banghead:

Stuff like this is exactly why i have skipped this line almost entirely. Only got Drift and Paralon. May look for 1-2 more deluxe figures but doubt i'll buy any.

Sorry but these remind me too much of the Armada/Cybertron and bad Targetmasters but less detailed.  With the prices that are charged now adays, I can\'t justify the expendature.

You know what's insult to injury, though? The quality of the RID figures - they tend to feel cheaper (lighter/less plastic). When I first bought some RID warrior toys, I joked that they were so light, you could throw them in the air and have them float while you took care of other things. :lol

They do feel cheaper. Titans and Combiners feel like they have a bit of heft. The two RID figures feel lighter.

A new Steeljaw would have been nice.
