A serious tone? What serious tone? You couldn't take Prime seriously. One of the most famous examples is when Bulkhead is "injured" by Hardshell at the end of "Toxic". You'd think by the over-dramatic conclusion to the episode, that the Autobot would be dead. However, Bulkhead recovers a few episodes later without any major issues.
Not only that, but the characters are making one-liners out of a Shounen-reject series, despite how the writers are continuously trying to convince the audience that the series is dark and edgy.
Prime doesn't believe in causality or consequences. Nothing is learned or gained from any of the show's plot. It's an over-dramatic cartoon that is no more serious than any other TF series besides Rescue Bots.
I also love how Prime fans claim that "Prime is dark and edgy", and they bring up the barely sufficient death toll. The 1986 movie throws all of that out the window with how many characters were killed in the film. If you want to talk about deaths in Prime, go ahead, but don't go around claiming it's the deadliest TF series out there.

What he means by "serious tone" is that Prime had a more "mature" tone than RiD. You can tell that Prime was targeted at kids 10+ while RiD is targeted at younger audiences

Ummmm, nobody ever said that it was "The deadliest TF series out there".

    The real reason?

That's pretty easy to answer, cable tv has been suffering a slow death.
Yet they aired it a new experimental exclusive channel, so it didn't have much exposure.

And unlike shows like game of thrones, there were no official streams or amazon/itunes simultanious releases. (Which btw encourages pirating).

In other words the HUB was canceled not tf: prime and without the Hub....

Maybe if we ask Hasbro Studios to step up their game the story will improve......

The show ended on it's own terms despite a lot of changes that happened during Behind the scenes production.

It ended because it didn't sell toys enough to keep retailers or advertisers happy with it.

You know, the same reason everything else gets cancelled. It simply failed to generate interest from the company to make more content.

Modern animated series very rarely make it past 65 episodes as that is the magic number needed to put them into syndication, which would allow a show to keep making money long after its initial run. Prime ran for 65 episodes and a movie, bringing the story to an actual close, so it was a great success by modern standards. TVTropes has an article on this with plenty of examples, including Prime.

Might help for people to define what they consider "cancelled". Ever since Prime ended, different people have been using that word with different ideas on what cancelling a show means.

I wouldn't say Prime was cancelled- it just came to very bumpy ending full of last minute changes. But, at least the ship got a landing vs being shot out of the sky like TFA.

And my guess is...money. Somehow or another, it all had to do with money. CGI is expensive, that level of CGI is expensive to maintain, and The Hub switching hands didn't help either. Probably lots of behind the scenes reasons we aren't privy to.

Nope. Animated's ending wasnt supposed to be an ending. Season 4 story boards, concept art and new character toy prototypes were all made before the boot came down on it

OK but the final still works as an ending.

With so many important hanging plotlines. (Like what happend to Ultra Magnus? Where the heck did Sari come from, and why did she say "I know why I'm here now" in the last 10 minutes?)

To me Animated was about that group of Autobots on earth. Now that they returned to Cybertron I don´t see why they would go back to that. If the story continus on Cybertron a sequel would seem more fitting, like how Beast Wars became Beast Mashienes.

Not on here, but on other threads I've seen it touted as that, and I just wanted to make that point.

Oh, those got answered in supplemental material like the almanacs

    - Ultra Magnus ultimately dies from his wounds, leaving Sentinel in charge permanently.

    - Sari was one of the protoforms from the crashed Nemesis on the moon, though what caused her pod to get dislodged at a specific time was not answered.

    - Probably AllSpark shenanigans.
