I was lucky to get a MOSC Marbles years ago on e-bay for a good price. Here are some hi-res pics of the front and back:
From the pics it looks like they might have improved the quality of their paint apps as well. Is that true in-hand?
Thanks for the picture. Even the few Rock Lords devoted web sites online do not have a picture of the back of the Marbles card. I'm putting it in on his Wiki page today. Weapon is called the Scanner/Laser huh? I never knew he could make illusions in his enemies minds. He was made to look a lot more human in the Rock Lords movie. Australian version of Marbles (note he's part of Machine Men brand): Canadian version of Marbles (note the French name Marbre): European version of Marbles (Note the Robo Machine GoBots branding): Early prototype of the Marbles toy solicited by Tonka, which was called Granite: Marbles in GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords: The Japanese Revege of Cronos character, called Maskrock, is portrayed as a questing knight who can make his Cristobalite body harder than it normally is by concentrating, and the paint on the toys is a bit different. His weapon ws called the Impulser. He rides a Rock Commander craft sometimes in the series (the US Stone Wing toy). Of course there was the time the Rock Lords appeared in the French cartoon series Bleu, l'Enfant de la Terre. I found some clips of that series. Here is a picture Pulver Eyes, Marbles, Granite and Nuggit in that series...
I see no issues with the paint. That said, I don't have any of the other figures to compare. The red is more vibrant in person and overall, the gray, black, red, and silver work very well together. The more "robotic" presentation is really cool; the guns are unique; and I'm really satisfied with this guy's look.
I was just watchiong those horrible subtitles of Revenge of Cronos, where theyhave odd names, and notice that in episode 37, they mentioned Shuttle Robo as "Dash". I have no idea how Shuttle became "Dash".
I can see it. The whole idea of a shuttle, be it a bus or spaceship, is to take you on a quick trip. As a verb, it means, to make a quick trip. (ie. "Living so close, I shuttled back and forth between school and home often that semester.") Not a big leap from a dash.
I need to start a list of their alternate names from the bad subtitles. Btw, in the series they never really say the "Robo" part if the name for just about anyone. That is just part of the toy line. So they are just Mixer, Blackbird, Shuttle, Bike, Tank etc, but the names are said in English. I guess that would be like calling someone a name that was a common Japanese word for us.
Okay, so going over some of the silly names given to characters in the bad subtitles and dubs of Revenge of Cronos... Here is what I have so far. Amberman - Amber Big Trailer Robo - Train (they use Train a LOT in the subs!) Bike Robo - Train Blackbird Robo - Black Knight Blue Jet - Sometimes called Ken. In the French dub he's called Leader (as in Leader-1). Diondora - Master Tarantula (called Demo in the French dub, which is the French name for Crasher!) Harley Robo - Harry Kenpo Robo - West Sword Land Commander 5 - The Five Man Team Maskrock - Masato Missile Tank Robo - Danke Phantom Robo - Battle Plane Porshe Robo - Pulush Pro Truck Racer Truck, in the French dubs he's called Pro Tractor Reina Stol - Called Aggie in the French dub, like AJ from the GoBots. Rockdon - Stone Dragon Rockgilan - Stone Flying Dragon Rod Drill - Lu or Rock, sometimes they call him Jet too, because they mix up dialog speaking to him and to Blue Jet. Rom Stol - Called Nick in the French dubs. Rubyman - Ruby Shuttle Robo - Dash Tough Trailer - Train, Lafu Triple Jim - Nami (and they seem to think Nami is female), called Proto in the French dubs (the French name for Turbo) Vikung-Fu - Machine Robo (called Courageous in the French dubs)
I'm pretty happy with Blackbird overall. I'd rank him as my second favorite in the line just behind Battle Robo (who may end up being unbeatable for me). It has a nice heft everything pegs together well. Transformation is fun and pretty simple. Both shoulder joints are severely loose, so that kind of sucks, but they can hold a pose and I can tighten them if I have to, so whatever. Now gimme my Blue Jet dangnabbit! And the rest.
Check out this video about 19 seconds in, where is starts showing the Machine Robo figures from Action Toys that were on display at the last TFcon.
