What does he turn into actually? Some of the vents say a tank or a jet, but the lack of treads and/or exhaust ports would mean he turns into a gun. The point of Transformers is that you could see what vehicle/object they turn into in Robot mode, but I can't see anything. He looks like something out of the Super Robot Genre.

Count me as another \"should\'ve been movie Megatron\" believer.  There should also be a 20 foot tall version of this on the Whitehouse lawn.  I will purchase this as a capstone piece to my collection.  Bayformer Megatron sucks.

This design is awesome, but after noticing the 3-tab ornamentation on the bottom of the chest, paired with the silver and black deco, I can\'t un-see Robocop.

    For a non-posable, non-transformable statue?

Love the look, hate the price. Between this bad boy and the 'Prime, I'll join in the chorus and say this is what the movie versions should have looked like. Solid connection to their G1 selves while still having some nice stylistic updates. Also not looking so busy on the surface would have saved a fortune on rendering.

Every time I see photos of this statue, I can imagine it actually moving and speaking with Hugo Weaving's voice. :D  Love it so much! I'm content to stare at pictures of it all day rather than spend the money on it. :p

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, these are the sorts of designs I would have liked to see them use in the movies. Of course that would only go half way towards fixing my problems with movie franchise.

I love it, but there's no way I'd pay that much for a statue.

I'm in agreement with the sentiment the movie designs should have looked more G1. These sculpts are great examples of what could have been. That would have gratified likely most of us who grew up during G1, as those are the designs that captured our young hearts. Nonetheless, not here to complain - just to fortify.

The price is a lot, but to create these is a shit-ton of work, and time. They are not toys - they are collector pieces designed to look as detailed and awesome as possible. back in my day of mecha modeling, taking on commissions was something I did a few times, but dreaded almost every time. It's simply not a money-making venture. There is SO MUCH time spent to produce the level of quality you wished for would result in an exorbitant amount of $. Moreso than most any customer was willing to pay. In a lot of cases commissions were taken simply for the love of producing something awesome. There is truth to the phrase 'starving artist' and those creating these true masterpieces are certainly artists of the highest caliber.

That said, I won't be buying this - but if there were a model kit version - I'd be all over it.

I don't think anyone is claiming that the movies should have been slavishly G1. But keep in mind that the first movie, which no one knew for sure would become a sustainable franchise, was banking in part on existing fans to build up momentum. And we're not talking just G1 fans, but fans from later animation lines like RID and the Unicron Trilogy. Each of these continuities had their own identity, but kept callbacks to most of the old characters with keeping some part of the look, role or personality of the G1 characters. Doing so pulls older fans into the newer world, something that I personally struggled with when watching Beast Wars because the characters were completely different (but I ended up watching the whole thing in the end so... yay). But I don't gripe about BW because they weren't claiming to be the G1 characters, other than guest characters like Ravage or the spirit of OP. By basically saying "we ain't those same characters", fewer people were bothered by the change. Even the Trukk/Monkey people know that Primal isn't supposed to be Optimus, so their gripes aren't that legit.

So the Bayverse departure didn't just confound G1 fans, it confused anyone who ever had an Optimus, Soundwave or (non-BW) Megatron in any previous continuity appeal to them. If you took someone who was a TF fan but had never seen the movies and posed the Baybots in front of them, the only one that would be really identifiable would be Optimus Prime (maybe Bumblebee, but only because he was the "yellow" one). It was especially bad for the Decepticons as I couldn't consistently spot Megatron/Soundwave/Starscream during the first couple times I watched the first movie.

Either you're pushing for nostalgia or you just leave it completely behind and create your own thing using the concepts of the universe. you don't get to forcibly redefine the things that you know we're nostalgic for and essentially tell us to suck it if we don't get on board.
look how much of a fuss was kicked up with evasion prime??

Regardless, super-greebles and pointless little moving parts was visually distracting and unnecesary, and something that they gradually stepped away from as the movies progressed.

I think we'll keep having this discussion over and over again as beautiful pieces like this keep making those of us that have misgivings about the bayverse wonder what could have been. this thing is glorious... but getting this and Optimus would be almost more than the rest of my collection combine :(
