I saw these figure stands ($10 usd) at toys r us the other day: I'm very curious if any of you guys have used these stands for posing transformer toys, and how effective they are for them. After looking at some video reviews, one would assume that they would work fairly well. Obviously, the figure's size and weight plays a part in how well the stand functions. The stand also comes with a second stand base with suction cups, to attach to a flat wall surface, such as glass.
I bought one of these just the other day, for $10 you really can't go wrong but be leery of the clamp used for holding the figure. I have to tighten mine after ANY type of adjustment, not the end of the world but also not great. I wish it had more articulation like figma stands. I've been on the hunt for good cheap stands for my flying 'formers for a while now and while this isn't "top of the list" it's definitely a good option! (Especially if, like me, you hate ordering crap online and waiting 8-16 weeks for delivery from the East)
I finally got one of the stands. Wow... these work so much better than I could have imagined on tranformer toys. Literally every single figure that I tried to use it on, worked! Even leader class Skyfire. The joints on my stand were nice and tight. Almost to the point where I would be slightly hesitant that I would accidentally snap off the clear plastic if I used too much force to move a joint. Each joint's tightness level can be adjusted with a screwdriver, which I never had to do, but that option's there if you need it. I plan on buying more of these. some grainy pics
That's what's up! I took the hook part off of mine because I've been using it for vehicle mode TR Scourge, been to TRU like 8 times since posting this and STILL have yet to see another one of these bad boys.
I never thought to take the hook part off for vehicle modes. Great idea. I just used it to grab onto some undercarriage arm or leg. (For the bigger figures) TRU and BBTS websites have them, but I can understand wanting to get them in a physical store. Many of the ones that I've seen have had unpleasant visible residue on the stand parts. Which was the reason why I waited so long to buy one, as I was waiting to find one without that stuff. I suspect that it can be cleaned off, but it also looked like glue, and didn't feel like chancing it.
So I got a set of 12 of these guys and I'm liking them. Mirrors are the only thing I've gotten the suction cup to stick to, so I'm guessing it'll work on most glass surfaces. I have a bunch of these also. There great. I use them to help steady my CW & UW gestalts. the PE feet do ok for a static pose, but these really help with a more dynamic pose. Either use the clamp around a leg or the 5mm peg in a port on the figure. Use two stands for a flying pose( takes some finagling on certain combiners, but it does work).
