Why did only 2 people understand what sidecutter was trying to do? he isn't scalping, he got access to a higher priced alternative and ASKED if anyone wanted to spend the extra money to get it NOW. it wasn't like he said "heh heh, i got this overpriced figure and you pay the inflated price or you get nothing." maybe some folks have the extra cash and really want it now instead of later. As deaculpa said, supply and demand. Sidecutter found a new supply and asked if there was any demand at the higher price to avoid wasting his and others' money.

 

How am I abusing customers' demand? I've sold through my allotment at the normal price and I'm fine with that. I found a second-level supplier that has them still available, albeit for more than the direct wholesale cost from MMC, and am trying to see if people want to have them, and have clearly presented what the cost would be. I'm not sitting here holding back stock to sell for a higher price on a hot figure so that I can pocket extra cash on them, in fact, I would likely end up making less of a margin if people wanted them.

 

That's quaint, but if we can be objective for a moment, there are unnatural aberrations to this particular market that have artificially shifted pricing away from a natural equilibrium point, not the least of which is the distributor upcharge that results in most popular 3P products costing significantly more than they actually would in a natural producer-consumer market where it's simply cost + a nominative markup to make it profitable. When you have middlemen essentially doubling the price of some products, your Econ 101 chart becomes meaningless. Using it to justify someone tacking on an additional 25% markup is simply laughable for anyone who knows better. He's free to do what he wants and offer whatever price he wants, but you aren't going to be able to justify it using that chart.

 

If you want to point at someone for the additional markup, it's the distributor I'm looking at that has these. I'd not be making any sort of extra margin on these at that price - less, likely. I'm really confused as to why people seem to be assuming that I'm trying to do something unsavory here, when all I did was ask if people wanted this option, and clearly laid out the cost of it up front.

 

I think the point was that homie isn't trying to play the role of scalper. Also, you can fancy it up all ya want but bottom line is scalpers, middle men or whatever you want to call them only succeed in charging outragious prices if there is a demand and they have the supply.

 

If someone willing to pay $50 more, whatever. I just say what I think about your offer. Soon or later, preorders of Kultur will be open again., so no reason to pay more.

I thought year ago I will never get Cynicus. He was sold out on PSX and everywhere else. There was second round on PSX and right now reissue coming. And in my opinion, Tarn is much more favourite than Vos. It is reasonable for MMC to make them more.

 

Right, and I agree, as I have said, that another run is definitely going to happen at some point, and have even said that my personal advice is to wait for it. But the option is there, and my entire job is connecting people with what they want, so I've put it out there to see if people want to take that option. Obviously most people do not seem to be interested, so I probably won't.

It's weird how people get so entitled they think fundamental laws of Capitalism are some kind of personal attack. The entire basis of our economic system is that some people will be willing to pay more for something than it's strictly worth in terms of the cost of creation. We call that surplus value "profit". If you don't make it, you go out of business. Sidecutter wasn't exploiting anyone. If anything it sounds like he was erring on the side of taking a loss to get product for people who might otherwise have overpaid even more.
