Shapeways just shipped out my order!  

 

I think I'm just about ready to call my attempt at painting the IDW Hardhead faceplate a massive disaster. Most of the face details melted away with the paint coats, despite taking extra efforts to thin the paints as much as I could before they stopped being usable, and the sealant didn't help all that much. A paint wash on this only made things worse.

Thinking I'm gonna have to order another cast of the face in hi-def acrylic, maybe things will go better with that.

 

At least your colors look good though!

 

Can I suggest a mini version of fort Max's head as a face plate? Coz I'm looking at the line art for tr and there's a pic of fort Max's head as a faceplate. (Link to photo below)Just thought it might be an interesting idea.

I might as well ask, what's a recommended paint type for these? I have a feeling using Testors Enamel paints was a misstep from the getgo here considering how small these are and how many details are so easily lost in the painting.

 

I tend to use thinned acrylic model/miniatures paint.

It's funny you posted that, because if I didn't have to redo Hardhead, he was next on my list to order... the default TR head is just absolute derp.

By acrylics? okay, I'll check it out

 

I do have those two in a four-pack with Minerva and Arcee if that helps.

And the Hooligan/Jetfire type Cyberjet face, useful for bunches of guys.

 

Can you do g2 windbreaker head? He was my first transformer and apparently also goes by zap/carzap elsewhere. Even if I don't find a body to use it be nice to have him.

The Hooligan face would go well on Armada Screamer (the newer one). Anyone know any working codes for Shapeways right now?

 

Hey Trent, how bout some gun seats for these guys like the ones that come with PMOP? The heads are great, but this would also give us more options to put on figures alt modes when the head is off. Specifically for non titanmaster figures converted? It's an easy route to put the gun seat on top of a car with the standard peg system

Stream went pretty well, went ahead and ordered SkullCruncher/Smasher's face.

I ordered it cast in hi-def acrylic this time, so hopefully it won't be the same melted-face turnout polished plastic gave. Since it only comes in black though, not sure if I have to use primer or just use multiple coats, haven't used acrylic paint before.

 

Acrylic is best for customs in my opinion. Doesn't get gummy on softer plastic like enamel and easier to thin since it's water based.

 

I spent part of Saturday and Sunday painting some of this stuff. It's not done yet, but I'll have to post some pictures soon!

About to put an order in soon for some faceplates. Was really happy to see Loafer, him along with my spare Chromedome body will be great for a custom project I have in mind (see attached pic). Now I just need a suitable head for Toxin ...

 

The Cyberjet face should also work as a GIJoe Battle Android Trooper face?
