Your whining about other fans is ridiculous. Hasbro should make whatever the largest portion of their consumers want. If that's IDW, cool. If not, oh well. But you trying to dictate for everyone what we should like and what is "asinine" for us to like is hilariously egocentric.

And yet, you can't understand that some people feel exactly that same way about IDW.

I'm not a regular IDW reader by any means, but I can respect it and enjoy it for being one of the handful of actually good Transformers media. And I don't think, in the context of CHUG figures, that directly basing a figure off of an in-fiction appearance is even the proper way to do things. I understand some people want their "G1-toys-but-actually-good" and I suppose that's fine but it doesn't seem to fit in with the line. It's always seemed told that it should be about taking the iconic elements of a character's design, and modernizing it while creating a unique and interesting toy.

And because of that, I don't care if Overlord has two Titan masters or one or five or if he has luscious lips. I just want a fun toy that embodies the spirit of a character.

Well, yeah, but the question is what the spirit of the character is, and that's different to different fans. For IDW fans, it's a little more flexible maybe. He doesn't need (and shouldn't have, really) any Titanmasters. But for JG1 fans, the actual characters are the two humans, not the lifeless vehicles they drive around, so the "spirit of the character" should include the characters.

But yeah, I don't care about lips one way or the other. I think Hasbro would be better off doing the lips, because it will better compete with the 3P options fans here will be comparing the official release against.

I don't really care what face it comes with, I've seen masterforce and I've read the idw comics. Either is fine, just getting a new official overlord that does most of what made the original toy so great is amazing enough.

Okay let me break it down for you so there's no confusion.

I was initially talking about Headmasters. With Deathsaurus appearing in the Comics and the Leo Kaizer combiner releasing shortly the Japanese show peaked my interest. So I started by grabbing the first season on dvd from Amazon about a month ago and it was so bad that it put me off to even bothering to follow up with the other 2 seasons. Then some joker holding a grudge in this thread decided he wanted to rehash a 3 week old argument that I was done with. Now Instead of going in guns blazing I decided to take the high road by getting a closer look at the G1 version of the toy (via a youtube review). And since I didn't see much of a big deal with the G1 head I then decided to watch a few episodes of Masterforce on Youtube.

And guess what? The sh*t felt just as stupid as Headmasters did. Thus I assumed the 2nd season was as crappy as Season 1 was and after giving it a try I WAS CORRECT! But if I felt that I was wrong I would've stated that so and shown a little more compassion since I can relate with the ongoing G1 vs Bayformers issue. But when the show is flat out terrible IMO and the people who praise it are going out their way to bash newer versions of TF media that they know others like just for the sake of flaming then those individuals get no sympathy from me!

To be honest when I first came to this thread I was just happy with the news that we were getting Overlord (wasn't trying to argue or disrespect anybody). I personally can't even see myself liking this version of G1 even when I was child. But if it were a simple case of "Hey, I prefer the G1 head better". Then good for you, no harm no foul. But when you have people acting like jerks with this air of entitlement and go out there way to bash other TF lines (IDW) that are legitimately better than the G1 line they're praising.... WELL YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE!

Apologize to those who were caught in the crossfire.

Now that's the respectable and logical way of viewing the scenario. In all likelihood everyone will get what they want in the end. So hating IDW or anything else shouldn't even be an issue in this thread unless you're one of those trolling/bitter/pretentious/entitled/jackasses people avoid when the term "Geewunners" comes up.

Example. When Hasbro releases Computron I passed on it and bought Takara's version as soon as I could. There was no hissy fit about it. See how that works?

I still think that 2 titanmasters based on Mega and Giga, one with a G1 toy/Masterforce head and one with an IDW head, would be the best way to go to please the most amount of people.

Says the troll who pulled me back into this discussion to argue in the first place. Mind you I tried to be civil. But as another of you trolls here admitted, we're all likely to get what we want in the end so pulling me back in here 3 WEEKS LATER to argue over nothing sheds more light on why people like you can't be taken seriously in the first place.

Mind you I'm not always a saint but I do know bad news when I see it. Some disputes can be discussed respectfully. But bringing this back up again is just childish at best. IDW isn't going anywhere any time soon but irritants like you can be blocked/ignored moving forward so that's a triple win for me. So once again I look forward to whichever Overlord figure we get next year (I'm not dictating anything). And I apologize to those caught up in the pointless negativity.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I like all of the g1 era Japanese shows, they have some great action and the stories and most of the dialogue are nonsensical garbage, even by generic mainstream anime standards.

Part of the appeal for me is the visuals, the character designs and cool action, the stories are so bad I am often laughing out loud at them, which adds to my enjoyment of them in the same way I like watching trashy 70's Kung-Fu movies. They are so bad they are good.

The writing (or lack of it) is pretty typical of other low budget limited animation animes of the era.
Actually shows like voltron, sailor moon and other mainstream stuff that I don't like has better overall stories and character development.

Not sure what you are saying. Like half of the chug lines were based on various modern comic art.
Titans and combiner wars are continuations of those lines.
The question is why WOULDN'T they use modern comic art versions of characters for modern toy?
They've been doing it for over a decade, as well as g1 homages etc.

70's Kung-fu. That's a good way of looking at it. I probably could as well if the Sunbow version didn't have a little more value in the stories. It wasn't always perfect. But there was some validity to it for the most part.

The art and animation was cool though. That's what sold me on buying that Headmaster dvd in the first place. But the one sided battles with goofy Decepticons and stupid stories is what killed it for me. There was one episode where Trypticon was chasing Wheelie and Daniel for no reason and fell off a damn bridge. The episode that truly lost me was one where Wheelie was beating up a Predacon. No seriously A PREDACON!! Wheelie was wailing on a Predacon!!!

The G1 Japan's Decepticons were basically "Team Rocket" before Pokemon ever existed. At least Sunbow's version has some ideal of "scale" when it came to strength and fighting skills. You didn't see Bumblebee, or Cliffjummper slapping around Terrorcons because it dawned on someone there that that type of ridiculousness would diminish their ferocity. And don't get me started on how Japan handled Combiners OMG!!!!.

Amazing how shortsighted this fanbase is. Here we have someone actually advocating Hasbro screwing their entire customerbase including the kids just because they don't like their fellow fans. The definition of cutting the nose to spite the face.

That's just Fallout. He's sarcastic about everything and the real point is that it doesn't actually matter which head they give Overlord.

But that's how we got Scramble City style combiners, and hence, most of Combiner Wars, though TBH everyone and their brother (except the one bot who has a brother) being a combiner was bit much for some people.

Speak for yourself. I thought HM, MF and Victory were great (or at the least, not any worse than the American cartoon.) I'd be interested to know why you feel they're an "embarrassment," however.

I admittedly haven't seen any of the Japanese series in full (Excepting Zone but that's horrible and let's never speak of it again), but from what I've seen, Headmasters and Victory are both booooooooring sequences of "Nothing-is-happening-to-advance-the-plot-forward but here's some stuff, which was fine for the American cartoon because it was never trying to tell an overarching story, but Headmasters and Victory both have clear levels of plot progression, they're just staggered out far more than they should be trying to occupy the series with some kind of random and weird stuff. Headmasters is really bad at this, because about five minutes of each episode actually moves the plot forward and the other twenty just kind of draw out sequences that should not take that long.

Masterforce, on the other hand, is frigging awesome and is legitimately entertaining to me because it hits me in all the right places, with an interesting story, actual characters, that perfect amount of 80's super-robot anime charm, and general badassness. I would rate it higher than the Sunbow cartoon on any day and it would definitely be my first choice for purchase if I was going to buy a DVD.

He hasn't watched them. He has SAID he hasn't watched them. Just little bits on youtube. He has no idea what he's talking about.

Yeah, this. Masterforce is the most fun TF series Takara has ever produced, hands down, imo. I don't rank it up with things like Beast Wars or Animated, but unlike all the other Japanese-produced TF cartoons, Masterforce is at least in the conversation.
