Bricks from the 80's are better than Titans Return? I mean yeah, they were nice for their time, but they certainly can't be held up as "good" compared to recent stuff. The recent stuff isn't as good as stuff from Animated and CHUG up to T30, but saying the 80's stuff is "better" than the current stuff when they're less posable and have less intricate transformations (RID Warrior Thunderhoof is absolutely brilliant aside from the lack of paint - I've seen people compare him positively to FE Bulkhead) makes no sense.

 

You confuse articulation and aesthetics (sculpting) with durability (quailty), I said myself that TR sculpt wise is wonderful (and I like their articulation more, of course) . Toys from the 80's - early 2000's had better quailty not just due to less articulation* and less intricate transformation, they were made from thick heavy chunk of good quailty plastic. The new TR have a lot of hollow thin plastic parts which make them quite fragile and not enough durable for children playing with them as they should be. Ironically the little titan masters sets seems to be sturdier then the bigger ones.

* My elder brother animorphs T-Rex is the best articulated T-rex Toy I have seen and it's really durable. Action Man who had more points of articulation then the titan figures is way more durable and painted then those hollow chunk of cheap plastic.

 

Wasn't there any more news actually? I thought the Preview Night meant, that it was only a little preview of what is to come and that we would see more the following days. But there was only one day the official pictures of the toys we saw before and then nothing else. Or did I miss something? Is NYCC only 1 day?

 

The durability was better in the 80s. While I love the modern toys, I can't help but feel they are much too fragile to be actually played with. So many hollow parts, thin plastic walls, etc.

 

I think "Preview Night" meant "preview of upcoming toys".

NYCC lasted longer, but it wasn't mainly a Hasbro event.

 

While I love transformations like WFC Prime, I loved how easy so far the Titans Return transformers are transformable. Never touched a manual for any of them, but still they have interesting transformations and look cool in both modes. I prefer this, because it's much faster and more fun if you would actually play with it. These are not meant to be puzzles, these are meant to be played with.

 

Guys old school heavy plastic is not coming back, so give it up.

However, at the scout/legend scale, we've never had better figures. They're too small for big hollow parts and plastic quality has actually greatly improved. Pick up a similar sized Beastwars fig, you'll see what I mean. Complexity has increased to deluxe level and now we're getting cockpits at this tiny scale. This is a major victory.

 

I actually see your point - the later G1 toys are tough as hell because of how thick the plastic is. However, the earlier die-cast stuff actually breaks easier at the joints - plastic can bend to an extent under stress, but metal can't, leading to joints where die-cast meets plastic being rather fragile.

There's still issues occuring today, though - transparent plastic is f**ing terrible to make joints out of. They're okay on hinges for minor bits like the cockpits on TR toys, but any part where they're more easily stressed (like elbow or knee joints) is kind of a bad idea. I can't think of any NuRID or post-CW Generations toys that do that, though. I'm honestly afraid to do anything with my Animated Swindle because of that.

 

So we had any theories on how Skyshadow is a clue to the gimmick of the next line much like how CW ultra magnus was to the titan master line.

 

When I look at Wolfwire and Hardhead I realize we can have our cake and eat it too.

Man I can't wait to get Triggerhappy even with hollow legs and arms that guy is a victory.

Too fragile to be played with? By who, Bam Bam Rubble? Sure it won't give anyone a concussion if you throw it at their head, but it's specifically regulated not to shatter if it drops.

 

I think that was just a coincidence.

 

I'm not sure that's what Magnus was doing that.

 

And seriously, G1 toys weren't that tough. It was harder to straight up shatter them, but breaking them off or rendering articulation useless was so easy back then. And they were way harder to repair if they simply got loose.

 

You are all probably right but if the retool as PM prime was planned from the start as most retools apparently are there could be a thunderwing pretender or some kind of flywheels retool in his future, doubt full I know but at least least we are talking about something relevant to the thread again.

 

PMOP was planned as the retool because on CW Ultra Magnus, if you remove the faux chest plate, the face of the truck is sitting right there in the chest - given the figure's robot mode size, PMOP was a no brainer. While the Titan Master headmaster gimmick plays well into the design, they could have easily retained the function of the original CW UM core figure. Not all figures in Combiner Wars were actually combiners - Megatron, specifically.

Flywheels would be easy, just stick Skytread's head on the TR Megatron. Thunderwing would be a retool of Black Shadow, a reverse of their deluxes.
