I don't mean to derail the thread, btw. That was just the first mention I've seen of their continued, albeit ephemeral, existence.

Well, back on topic, I for one would love an 80s synth score for a Transformers movie. Throw in some cheesy pop songs from that era for good measure.

As for 'The Touch', I feel like that would be a bit on the nose.

Yea I don't think there is any way to compare the two.

The Touch catches the 80's really well but it is very much a product of it's time. Kind of hard to use for anything more than an 80's flash back or perhaps one day they might pull a Spider Man and use it in the end credits if they do an old fan friend reboot at some point.

Queen, Queen is just such a band that their music has taken on a timeless quality. Queen song keep cropping up in movies because most of their songs are not just a product of their time.

Darn it, now I'm all disappointed that they haven't worked Queen songs into the Transformers movies.

Okay, first of all I hope the remaining members of Queen sued the ever living shit out of creatively bankrupt androids who were responsible for that atrocity. In the film's own famous words, there can be only one.

Second, I dunno, with The Touch being a cheesy balls 80's song I feel there's at least the possibility for someone to take the song and elevate it (somehow), but with Princes of the Universe, the only possible way was down. You don't improve upon Queen; I think that's in the Treaty of Versailles somewhere.

But I'm baffled that they haven't done a varation of the classic theme for the movie. I know in '07 some bands did some covers but they were never used IN the movie.

It could just come on the radio and Mark could sing along. I think it would be fun, but I can understand why they wouldn't want to make that connection to Boogie Nights (probably the best thing Mark has ever done).

 

That would be a perfectly acceptable way to use the song, a nice gag for those of us that know what it is, but anyone who doesn't know won't need to care.

 

I think it would be hella cheesy if they did.
