well said, though IF dinos are cool, I am more interested in more G1 style in this scale... these guys (DX9) have my number. I will buy everything they make given its G1 centric. Want too see their combiner predaking
While I do really like their scale I have just realized that there may be a bit of a conundrum here. I would like my Predacons to be of similar size to my Dinobots. I would also like all of my Combiners, especially Predaking and Devastator to be pretty close in size. Some difference is fine, but these two should be at the least similarly large. I understand that the Predacons can be a bit bigger that the constructicons, but given their size i feel like either they won't match in size with the dinos, or Predaking will be a bit too big compared to Devastator. And to be honest I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
I hope they fix the Kup design defect with Orion Pax... Kup's thighs get stuck inside his calves, when you change him into alt mode. Pulling them out is a nightmare, and I'm astonished the hip pegs haven't snapped yet. The legs literally pop off when you try to pull the thighs out, and then it's Mr. Screwdriver's turn to help pry them out. I seriously don't know how they didn't fix that during a QC phase, but it's pretty sloppy engineering...
I've been called awesome and the best, but never sensational, thanks man. Scout size is definitely better than deluxe though, so here's hoping you're correct.
Maybe thats cos you havent invested as much in legends scale? Just wondering. As far as i've heard from other people who got war in pocket mightron many feel its too big compared to other legend scale. Instead of putting him next to kup (which like dx9 arcee) is kinda biggish id suggest looking at him nxt to CW shockwave or IF soundwave. It just looks wacky imo. Same goes for that grimlock.
I have a hard time defining Scout and Deluxe size anymore. My CHUG guys are kinda of all over place size wise. I mean the first Classics 1.0 BB is a deluxe as is the Sideswipe that came a year or two later. And the combiner limbs are also "deluxe". And the movie, Animated, Prime and RID have seemed smaller and bigger depending on the line. Pictures help, but a lot of times it's not until I have the figures in hand next to my other figures that it clicks for me. I'm just hoping now the convention is over DX9 will release some more info like whether these will be sold individually or as set and what numbers these guys are designated in their WIP line. Iron Factory can label a figure "X27", but is willing to release sets "X30" and "X35" first if there is an issue with an earlier release. Their numbering system doesn't mean much, but DX9 seems to release things strictly in order. So when X6 - X12 Hulkie was delayed X13 Mightron and X14/X15 Leah & Tuofold were delayed. I'm not sure about everyone else, but Hastak's 30th Starscream (and the rest of the Seekers) and the first two WIP releases are kinda baseline for what I expect the average height of a deluxe 'bot to be. IF/Warbotron's Grimlock & Shockwave turned out too big for me. Robot head on Grimlock especially is massive compared to the rest of my legends, the proportions just felt off to me personally. But for some people they are perfect for their collection. IF's Blaster/Perceptor/Soundwave mold is a little shorter than those figures, but it works for me, for now. But I know that Blaster and Soundwave have been portrayed as different sizes in various media and various toy releases. I mean in CHUG Soundwave has been a deluxe, voyager and now leader and Blaster has been a voyager and a deluxe. For me personally, I really wouldn't interested in a Blaster/Soundwave that was shorter than IF's releases or taller than IF's Blitzwing. But that's just one criteria. Ark Studios had those Datsuns that were scaled exactly to a height that fit my personal preference, but I disliked the head sculpt and skipped them. Some people were happy to earth modes and picked them up. Everyone of us is going to compare a new version of an existing character against our own personal list of criteria and each of us is assigning those criteria different level of importance. And then we will still take into consideration things like pricing or if the character is being sold as a part of set.
I think DX9's big problem with Mightron's scale is that they already had a Galvatron out that was the same size as everyone else. If they'd either started using larger figures earlier or not made such a major character at that size, I don't think Mightron would look so out of place (although, to be fair, I have Mightron and he doesn't look that bad next to most of the other figures - Tyrant is the one that really feels out of place now).
I have close to 60 Legends scale figures from Hasbro, Iron Factory, DX9, and more... and that's not including a dozen or so smaller legion class figures that I don't include with that list. You're right, DX9 Mightron/Megatron is a bit big (Which is why I didn't bother to get him. Also because I had already invested in a 3D Printed fusion cannon for my Generations Legends tank Megatron) - he should be the same size as most other bots. But there are a few cases where I believe it is fine to have a bot that is a bit bigger. IF Ultra Magnus, for instance, makes sense. Likewise, the Dinobots being bigger than other characters, I feel makes it okay for them to be a bit bigger than Legends "size' in order for them to be Legends "scale" and look right when displayed with those figures. Heck, for a time I had RiD Warrior class gold/grey color scheme Grimlock displayed with my Legends. Also.... DX9 Kup and Arcee are big? huh? Same size as other Legends figures on my display. Arcee is maybe a fraction of a bit tall cause she's standing on her plate for stability... but they're right in line.
I dunno i already struggle with grimlock being bigger than OP, so when slag is taller than megs i start twitching. I really saw issues with this with IF blitzwing but settled for him in the end. To be honest I'm not even sure which is my scale of reference, sunbow, marvel, idw??? I suppose thats also another reason for which i strive for some sort of consistency. Another issue at hand is display and space. I have opted for now (mostly for space availability) for two stands, autobots and decepticons. There are times when i would like to add more, so lets say, having the movie cast (kup, magnus rc etc) showcased in a separate space, but it never happens. So in the end with this mass of bots in one space i dont want dx9 galvatron to be dwarved by bots which in my ideal scenario are the same size. Another thing is the budget and collecting rules you give youself. Let alone all the threads about this i get really nervous when im faced with having to replace a figure. Having already eliminated generations, mp and revoltechs from my stand, even if i had invested quite a bit some years ago makes me consider the pleasure i derived from this hobby. And as ive come to prefer 3p over official realeses (i dint get any CW exept shockwave an chop shop, skipping all the cassettes and wheelie, which i think ill get in legion scale eventually) I can't but think that with all the niche markets 3p tf have I really should go only with what i really appreciate. Scale has thus become one of these factors maybe more so than design or durability etc. What about you guys penny for your thoughts?
I guess for scale, it comes down to the 1986 movie for me, and scenes like this one: youtu.be/BtGdfulu5KI?t=75 Where we see Blurr and Hotrod half as tall as the Dinobots, trying to push them into the shuttle. That's the feel I want for my legends figures.
So......almost perfectly sized for GT Grimlock and larger but not too large for everyone else I have. I'm guessing they will do their own Grimlock(Rager) ? Very much sold. The other names........Seekers and Coneheads?
So they aren't too big. Swoop looks better next to the others there. Now i am much more sold. Much less is a turn off than before.
HMmmmmm. I think that 23-27 is Predaking. The names of 28-32 sound like they would be the other seekers to me. If Usurper is Starscream, Bluebolt would be Thundercracker, Skyshaker would be Skywarp, Rashcollider would be Ramjet, and maybe Gallower is Dirge and Noisybragger is Thrust? I'm not as sure of those as the list goes on, but I think that makes more sense than any of the orange and yellow Predacons being named Bluebolt.
