Good news is that you can ignore all the fiction and just use the original Headmasters as that: Headmasters. As for the 1986 characters, you can think of them as natural progressions from Rebirth...eventually, Blurr, Hot Rod, Kup, Scourge, etc. might have become forsook being Targetmasters and become Headmasters. The original prototype for Optimus Prime was for him to be a Headmaster (Roller) and Powermaster (Hi-Q) at the same time...so he works too as a Headmaster. Honestly, it'd be very easy to take Titanmasters as a new G1 direction post-Rebirth if you ignore the toy's profiles and the IDW-verse.

Well yes, I know I can imagine them to be whatever I want them to be as they are fictional. However I was interested to know what the new story of them is supposed to all be about?

So Blurr isn't Blurr anymore, just a body some smaller robot controls? Same with Scourge, Galvatron etc?

The toyline is like rebirth where it's two minds coming together, except the titanmasters are not organic like the headmasters were.

In the comics Blurr, galvatron, scourge etc are all just normal transformers. The only titanmasters revealed in the comics so far are infinitus/sentinel prime and sovereign, and I have my theories on sovereigns true origins

I really only mind it with the targetmaster or powermaster characters, but i have hope in 3rd party.

If I did, Blurr would've changed that position. Such a great toy with a well integrated gimmick to be the best Blurr toy ever.

This... :(  So many compromises... I just wish Targetmasters could stay Targetmasters. I mean, why not? I'm terrified that Trypticon will be a HM cause of this line - which was why I STRONGLY URGED TO VOTE SCORPONOK! :banghead:  :lol
I think they're Titan Masters because they control larger bots... or something. Really, "Headmasters" is more catchy, imo. You need HEAD somewhere in the tagline, so uninformed customers get a clue about what the gimmick is about. "TITAN MASTER" is as stupid generic as you can come up with. Why not, "MEGA MASTERS" or "ULTRA TITANS"? :lol

Ok, I get the issues with Galvatron and Scourge. But Astrotrain? Really? What makes the figure absolutely suffer for it?

It just....saddens me that there are people who will miss out on amazing figures like Blurr and Astrotrain, because they don't conform to their standards. I mean, really, were Targetmasters all that great? The thing they were trying to accomplish was robots turning into guns, only the gun modes looked like absolute shit. Plus, for the heads that have the arm kibble behind them, just pop the arms off. And it doesn't take away from the look of the character at all. Robot mode, it's not like you're going to remove the head anyway? 'Cause what's a robot without his head? Vehicle mode, there's nowhere to see the head, so it doesn't matter anyway. Anyway, this thread is about the poll, so I guess I need to give my opinion. I really don't care who's a Headmaster or not. Just give me that Triggerhappy!

Yeah, the Titan Masters fictionally-speaking are basically Armada Mini-Cons, except they form the bigger robot's head instead of just pegging somewhere onto their body.

Ok, I get the square kibble, but you could just remove the headmaster's arms. But I don't really know where you're getting partsforming from, unless you're talking about the head, but is it really that bad?

It depends. I follow the rule of cool; so long as the figure looks good and a gimmick doesn't ruing the overall look (like Galvatron) I'm fine with it.

You know, I posted this at the start of the thread but I softened up on my stance. Titans Returns is really slavishly g1 aside from the fact that everyone is a Headmaster...and I really don't care about that. Hasbro is actually giving me the G1 characters I wanted to have and I appreciate that. Combiner Wars was the total pits for me but Titans Returns is really awesome thus far!

    Exactly

Yeah but the below quote shows some would argue the opposite way to u.

I'm thinking the same thing. TITANS return. TITANS!! And we've only had 1 with one other stated for release. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they retooled metroplex in metrotitan. So yeah

Nope, not a problem for me. The whole point of Generations is making new versions of classic characters, but not being necessarily slavish to the original designs, alt modes, and/or gimmicks. Hasbro is all about the line-wide gimmicks for the Prime Wars Trilogy. We've been waiting for years for a decent Galvatron figure after the terrible Universe 2.0 figure, and we might have to wait even longer if we want a gimmick-free Galvy. Until Hasbro goes back to a non-gimmick Generations line following Prime Wars, and who knows when that will be.

Aren't most G1 purists exclusively collecting MP now? So I can see how they'd philosophically object, but not practically object as they aren't buying CHUG anyway... Right?

Any new character from the 86 movie I'm cool with, Kup, Blurr, Hot Rod. I can pretend they went overboard on rebirth and gave everyone new heads.

After seeing that 3rd party head for years for Blaster, it seems to make sense too.

Wish Astrotrain and Blitzwing were not though....
