One day I'll get you to admit Hasbro has dome right by the fans too, like, you know, holding a poll for the next Titan figure.

As for me, I think this toy is already a thousand times better than the spindly, fragile dude with rusty slippers that was MP5. Here's hoping for more news on this (and that supposed MP Hoist!) in two weeks.

I'm not sure how optional accessories make them less realistic? Or how being accurate to the cartoon vehicle model is any less realistic than the other random things they could have done on top of the truck bed, all of which likely would have caused robot mode issues? Since the robot is specifically formed out of those parts. There isn't always an easy solution, often times they have to pick one way or another, and they chose right here based on the line philosophy. People's expectations get out of whack. If you look up those trucks, most of them look a mess.

Whatever it is, it's one of the few MP style toys that goes with Megatrons animation style legs (two different tones of grey) rather than devotion to the ass ugly legs of the G1 toy.
I'm surprised to see nice 3P MP style Megatrons that have fantastic upper bodies, but the legs seem to be an afterthought, more "kits" inevitably to follow to cover up the horrible middle leg sections no doubt.

There is a range of option of how G1 style Megatrons legs can look, you've got the Diaclone toy, the cartoon model sheet etc.
Each looks good in its own way, but I'd really prefer if any of these 3P's would pick an aesthetic and stick with it, they seem to mix and match different elements into a non-cohesive whole to my eyes,

I mean look at any of the pics above, we've already had an official MP toy based on the toy gun look. It would nice to get some that went with the look of the other three imagse -

being either legs with black leg cover /grey upper and lower leg and no red - or two tones of grey for the legs sections (red optional on inner leg) or the other one or whatever.

It looks to me like the existing toys we have from 3P are a mish-mash of clashing elements seemingly to appeal to all fans and everybody.

I like all three 3P MP style megatrons, but it seems that so far only Apollyon has a definitive aesthetic to him.
When I look at the other two I see shrimpy hands and upper bodies that don't seem to match the lower bodies in proportions and colors.

Well they are ALL nice toys, but man I'd like even ONE that actually matched the cartoon model without having to be repainted, or buy some kit down the line that costs as much if not more than the toy itself for a couple bits of molded plastic.
It's funny how one toy/character can consistently have such rubbish legs.

Yeah, as others pointed out, even the Marvel comics Megatron was relatively svelte - as svelte as a 20-foot-tall robot can be...the beefy legs and chunky arms really are from DW and IDW more than anyone, and even the Megatron in More Drama Than You Want from IDW is huge and beefy.

Imagine if an iteration of G1 Starscream was a hulking murder machine, we'd cry foul since he isn't known to be super strong, and jet fighters are meant to be sleek and slim. Most handguns are sleek, compact and slim (that's the idea), and yet because of recent comic interpretations, people are in a tizzy because Megatron has...normal proportions taken largely from the cartoon

    This fandom...

Well I for one am psyched. My only fear about it at all is that it will turn out to not be real, or we'll go forever and never hear more on it lol. I know nothing in life (or plastic crack) is perfect, but this is the one for me if it's real. And if it's coming from a company with good QC.

Without getting bogged down into "this toy versus that toy", I think the disconnect for some people in the versions of Megatron to date and this latest one is in the difference to how the character is remembered, how he "ought" to be, and the way he was originally designed and depicted.

Megatron was always the Autobots' greatest foe. When he showed up, there was no question of going toe-to-toe with him unless Optimus was there to even the odds. No one else was a match for him.
Then the movie came out, and he wiped out a lot of fan-favorites. He became the Prime-slayer. Regardless of how he actually looked at the time, he's taken on mythic proportions in a lot of peoples minds and the way he's been depicted since then has only reinforced that.

I think the cool thing we have going now is both views being catered to. There's offerings already available for those who like their Megatron big, imposing, a miner-turned-gladiator-turned-freedom fighter-turned-warlord.
And now with this design we have something that hearkens back to the series and movie, the Megatron that was no less a threat but that was just as capable of guile as overt force; that hatched a plot to breach the defenses of Autobot City by sneaking in on a transport rather than fighting head-on; the Megatron that was both bemused and put off by "such heroic nonsense".

    In other words, it's win-win.

Also, if there was an option for different faces I want that expression that's on his face right at the moment he blasts Ironhide.

I've been staring at the picture of the gun mode, trying to figure out how he transforms.

The main body of the gun is made up of 5 separate panels. None of them are big enough for the chest.
Cheeb's mentioned the bot chest is a fake - looks like maybe the bot chest is a single thin panel that just hinges down over an "empty chest" - in bot mode those look like hinges for the chest either side of the hinges for the head.

I'm assuming sat at the back of the gun, that's the clip that holds the fusion cannon to his arm.

Looking at the bottom of the gun, between the guys fingers - are those Meg's feet? Are they sticking out of the handle like Shockwave's feet did? They were passable on Shock's because he's a "space gun", but it'll look awful on a "realistic" handgun.

Apollyon had a truly awful transformation - those thin spokes are a joke. I'm expecting this Megs to contain lots of TT voodoo magic in the transform (by this point, I'm convinced this is a TT design)

More accurate over time? No, they've simply changed design focuses over time. Some like that, I'm not one of them.

I'm okay with the recent aesthetic shift, but I hesitate to call it inherently "better". And it's not some natural progression, it's just a change in designers.

That extra smiling face at the bottom looks so perfect. Love how angular they've made it.

Every time someone posts that original pic, I see it more and more as a TT toy. There's no way this is 3P, this is the closest I've seen a toy come to representing the animation version of Megatron ever.

Might be just me, but the upper legs look asymmetrical. The thighs look different, almost as if he has two different legs.

That was my first reaction too (because of the knees) but I'm pretty sure it's just the post/angle. You can see the pegs meant to hold the legs together in gun mode so there's a very high chance they're symmetrical.

Ratchet was a, fairly isolated, exception however, not the rule. I can't think of any of the other mostly painted MPs or BTs that suffer from any real paint wear. In other words, in my experience, I trust TT's paintjobs, and have no concerns with Megatron being painted. Besides that, if we're talking the silver paint of the gun mode, that's actually probably less paint than Ironhide and Ratchet got. I'd expect very little paint from the waist down, mostly just on whatever parts for the silver of the gun mode, his new robot chest, and head.

Another question to consider: what if he is fully painted, but in gloss, non-metallic light gray?

I just assumed it was the actual pictures that were leaked, not that the figure was snuck out and someone took pictures of it. In fact, I kinda think the photos look like someone took a picture of a computer screen. But yeah, it does totally seem like it may have been intentional...

People are still doubting that this is Takara's work? I thought we have proof that Shogo Hasui was at whatever round-table meeting this prototype was displayed at.

Some of us really liked Hasui's take on MP TFs. For me MP Prowl was the figure that got me into collecting. Dynamic poses with heroic (IDW-esque) proportions and modern tech detailing, awesome, stoic faces and real-life, licensed alt modes for that added extra value. Instead of the "ideal" character we now get the toon accurate one. Which is fine for some, for me they look awfully bland with almost caricature-like qualities (except for the engineering which is still great). I wouldn't mind if this Megs had a larger torso and smaller diaper and head. Also based on that face and overall proportions, for me it doesn't look like a Hasui design (maybe a neutered Hasui design).

Er, well we saw that both Hasui and the guy in the photo have a similar shirt and a black watch. So yeah gotta be Hasui!

Or one of the millions of other guys with a similar shirt and a black watch!

    :)

I do wonder why anybody would doubt this is Takara's work though.
