I put my G1 music transformers together for a quick snap and came away with a question. I realized poor Soundwave is the only one with no speakers to speak of, so I threw some headphones on him. But now I'm wondering, are those lines on the top right and left of the front of his alt mode supposed to be speakers? I just caught that they're labeled R and L, so I'm wondering if maybe I've just mistaken them for decoration this whole time?

Yep, those are meant to be speakers. Since he's more of micro-cassette recorder, the speakers are not that big.

Speaking of cassettes, I got these in the mail last night. They are the KO versions, but I never thought I would actually own any version of these guys.

Actually, the original Takara D-17 Soundwave came with actual headphones and a microphone, alongside Rumble as a companion tape.

Random ebay auction that got picked up in one of my searches. I put a somewhat low bid on them, and ended up winning somehow. I been waiting for them all week since I won.

Were those just props, then? Without hitting a wiki, I thought Soundwave was for show, but Blaster was the one that was actually functional, am I misremembering that?

You remember correctly. Soundwave didn't have any electronics. Blaster (or, more accurately, his Microchange predecessor), however, had actual speakers in his legs. His cassette was a receiver that allowed you to listen to the radio; he couldn't play actual cassettes.

    Hey guys,

I know this is not technically a G1 toy, but I think you might appreciate this: the yellow version of Diaclone Car Robot No.5 4WD-Hilux - the mould that would become G1 Trailbreaker. Hopefully I'll be able to take better pics in the near future. Got him for a good price from a seller on E-Bay. As far as I know, this variety was only ever released in Japan.
