Yeah, if you try to take seriously all the joke cameos that the various artists have thrown in for no reason other than to be funny, the IDW continuity becomes even more of a mess.

Am I misreading this, or did you two actually take my post seriously? Also, contradicting Dinobot origins? When did that happen?

The Gobots cyborg origin has kind have been done in spotlight Nightbeat with the citizens of Gorlam prime behaving like in the Deus ex video game in upgrading their organic selves to the robotic with transformers intervention. They where depicted as the micromasters but we only saw a relatively small number of them compared to the billions population so some could have been Gobot-like.

They are just easter eggs that can be retconned to be a guy that happened to look like Cy-Kill and not the real Gobot anytime.

I was just intending to jokingly play along. I hope I didn't come off as mean.

In Spotlight Shockwave the dinobots get there dinosaur modes from the local life and use skin to protect themselves from the high energon levels. Here the Dinomodes are no different than having a car alt mode. (Nice beast wars nod in my opinion.) but in the more recent monstrosity prequel they instead get Dino Esque monster modes from some I stand alt mode change using trypticon's energon. This version jacks up their mind and leaves them with the difficulty to transform and control themselves in alt mode. The first story is cannon because it's when Shockwave plants the ore 13 that was brought back up in the recent Dark Cybertron. The second is not only a recent story itself but is also referenced in the recent Redemption one shot.

The ownership situation with GoBots is far too dicey for Hasbro to ever sign off on a comic starring the GoBots looking like themselves under their original names.

Prose stories are okay (like the TCC's Renegade Rhetoric Facebook page) since you're not showing anything visual and hi-and-die unnamed cameos aren't a problem, but there is absolutely zero chance of a full-blown GoBots comic featuring anything even remotely resembling the Bandai toys ever happening.

Jim Sorenson, who wrote the TCC Facebook GoBots stuff, spoke a fair bit about what Hasbro allowed them to do at TF Nation, and the toy designs, the Hanna-Barbera art of them, etc. are all completely off the table.

I wasn't certain, but I really got the impression that Southtownkid thought I was serious.

Huh. Well, it's a good thing that I didn't read that trilogy beyond Autocracy.

My serious answer to this is: no, for the same reason this big Hasbro crossover is a bad idea. There are too many characters. It makes the barrier to entry for any new readers impossibly high - the more IDW do this, the more they're ghettoising their readership.

If they did, it would have to be smart. They would have to be Hasbro-ized versions of the characters. For instance, Fracture. They own the names, as much as can be, so that wouldn't be too hard, but they would have to use their own molds that resemble (again, see Fracture).

I too always thought that Gorlam Prime was going to become IDW Gobotron (wouldn't be too hard, Jetfire specifically mentions the population started calling THEIR planet Cybertron, just combine the two and you get Gobertron, which could become Gobotron just based on easier to say, or have Swerve come up with it :p )

But yeah, if they did bring Gobots in, they would have to be based on molds that COULD pass for them in some way, but would NOT be able to be 100% faithful to the appearance of the cartoon. Playing devil's advocate, who could you see being used? My thoughts:

Leader-1: remold the classic seeker mold
Turbo & Coptor: Universe Hot Shot with a few mods. Yes, I know, minicon Coptor, but could have it be a vs. pack instead.
Scooter: Combiner Wars Wreck Gar or the minicon scooter.
Cy-kill: only one I can think of other than CW deluxe Groove would be animated Oil Slick.
    Fracture: Movie Universe Fracture :p

Yeah, it felt like they were trying to do the whole tortured aspect of the FOC dinos, but it didn't work as well and resulted in a headache continuity wise.
Huh, interesting idea. I see what your saying. similarities would have to be "accidental"

What about Gobots Easter Eggs? I mean a robot that clearly used the design of Cy-Kill appeared in Megatron Origins, it's not the same design as the cartoon of course but it's similiar.

Is it because since it's just an easter egg, Bandai doesn't care?

    Hell no.

I want Gobots to remain carefree and kid-friendly. Ever seen the original cartoon? I liked it and I want it to stay it that way.

You do realize that if they do use to Go-Bots in IDW, that won't move time backwards and erase the 80's Go-Bots from existing, yes?

If anything not attempting to use them in some form of revival, whether it be their own media or adopted more direct and fully in Transformers, is letting them rot away forgotten in obscurity.

I mean WHY should the future generations be denied a chance to enjoy the Gobots even if they are overhauled into the Transformers brand. New figures and stories for them is honoring the memory of those who created and worked on them for reasons besides profiting just as modern interpretations do for Transformers regardless of reception because they allowed them to carry on in spite of the original ending.
