Is TF so weak it needs other legendary lore within its movies?

    This is curious indeed.

If it's a minor role, then it'll probably be a flashback to the medieval era.

If it's a major role, then there's time travel involved: either the Transformers go back in time, or Arthur comes to the future.

I hope for a minor role, but am okay with a major role.

Five attempts involving several hundred million dollars in budgetary allowance and any legitimate TF history and characterization is still either ignored, trashed, or replaced with nonsense. TF fans are into ROBOTS, and from a cultural standpoint in terms of source material, would likely appreciate a mythology grounded in alien culture or at least on Cybertron, not earth. Why do they keep pushing these unconvincing and nonsensical historical connections to human Western civilization? The Mars rover (like a lot of things about the first movie) worked, but it's been getting progressively worse. King Arthur? This is what a special team of writers have come up with? These should have ended with DOTM and left a relatively clean trilogy closing with the battle of Chicago. Paramount must be scared to do away with Bay, so we're stuck with a director who has to CONVINCE himself (by way of his wallet) to do another movie each time. The general public are watching these because it's Transformers and a great time at the movies - not because of Bay. There are likely many excellent and amazingly creative writers and directors who I'm sure would love to get their hands on this franchise and would be humbled by the opportunity. The Force Awakens and JJ Abrams are a great example: A tirelessly devoted and amazing director who is as big a fan of the source material as they get, receiving both excellent critical reviews on top of making an obscene amount of money.

I don't believe these movies are for TF fans, really...they're for the masses whom only wish to escape the drudgery of their everyday lives for a couple of hours. That's not a defense, only an observation.

I agree. A Theme dealing with knights is hardly a new concept either since IDW has the Knights of Cybertron lore and characters like BW Silverbolt and Star Saber being knigthly characters themselves.

How do we know that the Arthur lore isn't tied into a larger role concerning the knights that's being mentioned in the movies? In AOE Optimus and Lockdown implied that there are legends about space knights so for all we know TLK could be delving into that Cybertronian lore. I think it's too early to say that the idea they're going for is stupid or out of place.

As for The Force Awakens weren't people accusing that of being unoriginal since they felt it was ripping off A New Hope?

Should have gotten Charlie Hunnam since's he's already playing King Arthur in the new re-imagined series coming out soon. Watch the trailer for that movie, and then tell me that version of King Arthur wouldn't fit into a TF universe perfectly.

Well once upon as time is suitably awful and badly acted so I guess thats ok. I really had no ideas King Arthur was going to be in this movie, it's quite laughable. Are they really lowing themselves to contrived time travel and the pillaging of public domain mythology? I guess G1 did the same....

Honestly, while I'm still confused about the medical theme, I'm okay with this casting. Liam Garrigan did a good job of playing Arthur in OUAT so it'll be cool to see him reprise the role again especially considering his character disappeared suddenly, for a few episodes, and then appeared again and was just immediately killed off by Hades in the show.

These movies are not exclusively for the tens of thousands of hardcore TF fans, but for the tens of millions other people who want to see a fun action film.

While it's understandable as fans we want the movies to be everything we've always dreamed of. However all you have to do is look through this website and see that these movies do appeal to some of the hardcore fans.

So while we can't all have our ideal movie, we still have Generations figures, IDW comics, Masterpiece, Combiner Wars series that are all created with us hardcore fans.

The report also says Santiago Cabrera is playing Merlin, which doesn't seem right as he's been seen dressed as a soldier along with Josh Duhamel.

    ew.

i had no idea what the movie might be about. now i do.

    ew.

aliens robots plus mid evil magic. what an AMAZING premise.

this will be just as good as when optimus primal became a psychic monk in beast machines...

I already hated how significant they made humans in the other movies, because really they should be near helpless against cybertronian forces and now these humans set in the past with absolutelty zero modern technology are still going to be somehow involved with a warring alien race of robots, and probably still somehow be a seemingly necessary plot point. wow.

The one thing I like is that they are actually carrying on with the Knight theme and adding consistency instead of just doing a theme each movie, dropping it and acting as if it never happened before.

So how funny would it be if he turns out to actually be Merlin? Only he's the one that's traveling through time looking for something? Maybe Merlin is a man of many faces or even a TF of many looks ;)

I am more stunned by friggin' ANTHONY HOPKINS!!! Why was that not news in itself?
Mind you, I expect he will deliver a bored, annoyed, give-me-my-paycheck acted role, like he did in Thor 2.

Funny how the report says the guy playing King Arthur is playing King Arthur in something else and the guy playing Merlin was in the BBC Merlin series lol

Incedentally enough in that series Merlin lives into the modern day waiting for the union of Albion, so it's definitely possible that Merlin will do the same in TLK, just unexpected for him to pose as a soldier.
