So I got this set, after getting money back for sale-price adjustments on Fortress Maximus and several others at Toys R Us. All told, it pretty much took care of half of the also-on-sale Computron. I'm happy to have Technobots. But I'm a sucker for comics-only characters finally getting toys. So really, Scrounge is the star of this set.

I love that this scene is finally possible!

My opinions on the team based on pics alone. I have ordered Takara's Computron and passing on Hasbro's.

Scattershot - Takara wins. I was going to pass on the single release but he was cheap and my Deluxes needed another Voyager to combine with so I got him. Hasbro's new version looks better but still has Silverbolt's chest. Takara's is now as much of a remold from Silverbolt as Cyclonus is.

Lightspeed - Hasbro's may be a better mold but has a terrible color scheme. I don't like all that white since it wasn't there originally. The Breakdown mold may be poor but is more accurate to how Lightspeed should look (if he had an earth mode), especially with his new head. I'm more welcoming of owning the Wheeljack mold a second time with a new head than the Streetwise/Prowl mold a fourth time in a bad color scheme.

Afterburner - I prefer Hasbro's orange to Takara's red but I dislike the green windscreen. I don't have Groove so new mold to me.

Strafe - They both look good to me with no strong preference over the other. I think Takara's white may be nicer than Hasbro's off-white. I don't have Blast Off so another new mold for me, so Takara wins. I'd pick Hasbro Strafe up if it was ever made as a single release.

Nosecone - Takara's is the highlight of the set for me. I love Rook, Hound and Swindle so a cool new extensive remold is a huge plus for me. Whereas Hasbro's is a let-down; I don't mind Brawl but its nothing amazing. The tiny drill is unsatisfying after seeing Takara's big drill.

Computron - Still very much like Superion but superior to Betatron. I used to think it was unnecessary to give Computron a new head or chest but Takara went above and beyond again. I wish Takara Computron had Hasbro's new hands and feet though.

Scrounge - I'm very happy that Hasbro finally gave us a Scrounge toy with a new head even, but for me, even at a lesser cost for Hasbro's version, Takara still wins. Scrounge is cool but not cooler than a superior color scheme, two new molds and remolding for the other three.

    Hasbro best toy - Strafe
    Hasbro weakest toy - Lightsteed

    Takara best toy - Nosecone
    Takara weakest toy - Lightspeed

I've got the UW version incoming. I'm not sure, but I think the Afterburner on Hasbro's is better and I _really_ would have wanted that Scrounge. But I'm not going to buy both. Maybe if someone sells Scrounge loose.

Now that I have both in hand I can safely say I like them both equally for different reasons. The UW one's remolding is amazing, but I prefer the Hasbro colors and add-ons. Unfortunately mixing and matching doesn't really work, I feel.

I will have to keep them both! ;)

edit: sorry for the sideways phone pics!

I think the UW set looks awesome with orange Afterburner! That's how I'll be displaying mine.

I bought them both because I'm a sucker... I have to say that I really like both versions of this set. Both sets feature some real charm that the other doesn't have.

    Pros (UW):
    • Strafe based on the UW-Blastoff mold which adds some much needed variety to the heavy mold reuse of combiner wars
    • Nosecone is so heavily remolded that you just might forget it used to be Rook/Hound/Swindle/Impactor
    • I actually think that while I like the CW Wheeljack mold (and its relatives) less than the CW Deadend mold, I think the UW Lightspeed looks more the part and has a tons better deco not to mention a new head sculpt
    • New weapons for every figure in the set
    • Remolding on Scattershot is a really nice touch to differentiate him from his combiner cousins, especially the new Computron head
    Pros (CW):
    • Scrounge and parter Cybaxx!
    • Strafe based on Air Raid mold looks really nice and quite unique and even has a totally unique and great looking head sculpt
    • Personally I like the deco on this version of Afterburner better
    • Dedicated hands and feet! While they don't store away quite as neatly as Victorions the fact that you can tuck the hands into the feet and then attach them to Afterburner in vehicle mode is nice and they make some very big powerful looking arm guards for Scattershot in bot mode

I'm really enjoying this guy/team. The colors really pop in person.

The only thing different from the instructions I do is put Cybaxx in gun mode and plug him into the top of Compton's gun (like Powerglide could do on Superion's). Cybaxx was kind of pointless sticking out the top of the shoulder. He also will have less opportunity to rub off the red paint on Scounge's guns.

Can't you position Cybaxx and Scrounge so that Cybaxx is pointing downward, thus giving Computron a big yellow arm cannon?

The problem is what becomes the gun barrels of Cybaxx are the ports that connect into Scrounge.

The UW Computron set is quickly becoming my favorite CW/UW figure(s)...and this is coming from a hardcore Bruticus fan. Guess I'll do a quick rundown of the figures. This is my first experience with all these molds aside from the Rook mold (I have G2 and CW Swindle).

    Scattorshot - 7/10
Pretty good leader figure, but I worry about the white paint on his arms. Seems kind of thinly painted on there. I have the same concerns about the white part of his thighs (the parts that make up the Computron chest). That white paint seems thin to me. I've handled it carefully since I opened the figures, but I can see it rubbing off if you're not careful. The dual pistols are cool and I like that they can also combine to form a really long rifle. Articulation is bot mode is good enough. I'm not a fan of the rubbery plastic used for the wings (though I understand why it was used). Doesn't feel very durable to me. The silver paint on the alt mode's front cannon is really nice, and I like the color scheme he has going on. It's not G1 toy or cartoon accurate, but it still works for me. I think the UW version looks better not only because of color scheme, but because of the remolded chest.

    Lightspeed - 4/10
This is where I prefer the CW version. While the alt mode LOOKS great, I think the Streetwise mold is more reminiscent of Lightspeed's G1 model. Plus, the robot mode is just plain bad. I hate the hips, he's way too stocky, the feet don't give the best balance support, and his head sculpt doesn't look good at all. I'm glad they at least bothered to give a new head...but I just don't like the small proportions or the shape of it. The weapons are nice though. I'm just really not a fan of this mold choice at all. The only good news is that my experience with Lightspeed sort of prepared me for what CW Wheeljack was all about.

    Afterburner - 7/10
I think this is a case where neither Hasbro nor Takara got it 100% right...but it just has to do with the colors. I think Hasbro's shade of orange is perfect...but then they went and fudged it up COMPLETELY with that awful translucent green light piping and alt mode window. Though I would have preferred him to be orange, Takara's red is accurate to the cartoon, and it looks really good anyway. Plus the windows are blue, so that's a plus in my book. Articulation is decent and I haven't had any balance issues. The arm joints are tight as hell on mine though. The new weapons also look really good, but they're hard to store in combined mode. Also, not a fan of how obvious his arms are in limb mode. That aside, I like the figure.

    Strafe - 9/10
With Strafe, I think both Takara and Hasbro did a great job. Hasbro's is spot on with the toy version, and Takara's is a dead ringer for the animation model. Only fault with Hasbro's is that there's no weapon, whereas Takara's has 3 (A pistol, and the two removable shoulder cannons). I also like this Blastoff mold with the ankle rockers in bot mode (always a plus). The wings fold up, but they're REALLY thin...so be careful. Seems like it'd be really easy to snap them in half or something. This guy looks great is all 4 modes (Arm, Leg, Bot, and Jet). Again, my only issue is the thin wings.

    Nosecone - 10/10
Obviously, this guy is the star of the show. I LOVE the Rook mold (although I only have Swindle), so I knew I would like this Nosecone. The huge drill looks great and works well in combined mode, alt mode, and even bot mode. Articulation is fantastic, head sculpt is cool, and his weapons are great. I have no complaints about this guy. The only fault you could nitpick and find would be his colors aren't accurate to neither the G1 toy nor the cartoon model. It doesn't bother me though, since they look fantastic regardless and work really well with the team's earth-tone color motif.

    Computron - 9/10
This guy looks great. Scattorshot makes for probably the best torso mold that I own (I'm comparing him to Battle Core Prime and Onslaught). Thighs are a little on the thin side, but that can be fixed by using Nosecone's weapons as filler. The new headsculpt and chest work wonders for him when comparing him to Hasbro's offering. Also, all of his component's colors mesh REALLY well to give the illusion that he's not just a sum of 5 separate bots, but his own individual bot as well (if that makes sense). The only issue I have is that his stability can be an issue depending on what pose you use. Also, if I'm nitpicking, the thin thighs sort of annoy me, but as I said before, once you plug in Nosecone's two missiles, it's barely noticeable. Also, it goes without saying that Hasbro's Computron hands/feet are better. But I'd use the Perfect Effect offerings regardless, so it doesn't really pose as a factor to me.

All in all, I love this set and he's quickly becoming my favorite combiner. I have the Perfect Effect hands and feet because I hate the Hasbro Hands/Feet. I'll include a few pics to contribute to the thread. Sorry for the poor quality, I'm stuck using my phone camera because I can't find my actual camera. 20160908_181251-1.jpg 20160910_121041-1.jpg 20160910_130655-1.jpg 20160910_132236-1.jpg 20160910_132446-1.jpg 20160910_132749-1.jpg 20160910_133053-1.jpg

How does the opposite look, CW with red Afterburner? That's the combo I want to see.

someone decided to sell Takara's Unite Warriors Computron's Head on eBay and I was kind enough to buy it. Also painted Afterbreakers rims, got a set of guns for Strafe (CW Pipes guns x2), swapped guns with Betatron, and replaced Scrounge with Cosmos (because Scrounge is to awesome to be a arm shield)

    Ebay:
Finally caved and ordered Computron myself ($70 from Amazon?! Can't argue with that). This is my first time owning the Technobots. I've been very selective of what combiner teams to buy and that's really paid off for me!

Cybaxx & Scrounge - I missed out on Cosmos during both of his Legends releases. I always meant to go back and get him but now I have no regrets. Both of these guys were comic exclusive characters that never had figures until now. The bright yellow can be off setting at times but it makes them match nicely and they pop in a group. Not much to Cybaxx. he's got two paint apps, one that shows in each mode, and no articulation besides moving his arms (little yellow brick). Engineering is simple too, literally one step to transform. I will give him bonus points though for being a triple changer/target master allowing him to integrate with Scrounge in both modes. Scrounge himself is a great little mold. It can be tough to get his head out and it is a bit loose, but the engineering is impressive, articulation is top notch for his size, and he's got a fair amount of paint apps and tons of sculpted detail. Nice big feet and tons of ball joints can make for a lot of fun.

Afterbreaker - He'll always be Afterburner to me. Trademark issues? Can't imagine it's censorship. I intentionally passed on Deluxe Groove because a giant police motorcycle is stupid and he worked so well as Defensor's chestplate so this is an all new mold for me. Slightly dissappointed with his leg's being the same old reused Arialbot configuration instead of something new and his feet being a bit small, but overall his aesthetics, articulation, and engineering are all solid. A great figure. Looking forward to see how many robots I can get to realistically ride him.

Lightspeed - okay, he's Dead End, the third one for me (Would've been the fourth but I never got Brake-Neck because why? Menasor had six unique molds combining into one? Why go with a copy just because it's more "Geewunny"? I'd rather have a more dynamic team). He's a straight repaint of Streetwise which is kinda weak but it's still a solid mold. The unpainted windows don't bother me as he isn't supposed to be an earth mode anyway, it's not a cockpit for messy organics. I can always stick one of the foot/hand modules on top of him to mix up his silhouette if I want.

Nosecone - Never got the Combaticons as I already have two Bruticus combiners I am quite happy with (Energon and Generations). Another brand new mold for me. Aside from his 'missing' midsection of robot mode and being a bit lose in either mode, he's a decent mold. Probably the weakest of the bunch but still good.

Strafe - In addition to the combaticons I also skipped the Arialbots for the same reason (Energon Superion is just fine for me) so it's a whole new mold to me. All around a solid figure, the same old leg configuration but at least it serves its function. Does feel a bit weak that he doesn't come with weapons but other technobots could share easily or he could just switch right to vehicle mode for combat. Really great figure.

Scattershot - Hardest part of this guy is remembering his name. I watched the original cartoon as a child but don't remember the technobots so well. As such to me Scattershot is the autobot from Cybertron. I don't automatically think of the original. Anyway as I said I skipped the Arialbots so I don't have silverbolt but I do have this mold as Cyclonus, so it's somewhat familiar. His deco looks nice and their's no doubt the engineering is solid. Gotta love that giant rifle. My only regret is that since it's a repaint and not a new mold he doesn't have his third artillery mode. It would've been nice to switch things up but I can do without.

Computron - Together the team looks fantastic. Aside from Scrounge and Cybaxx they have a common color scheme without it being uniform. They share colors but no two technobots has the same set as another. It's mixed up enough so they look dynamic and retain their individual personality, but it's shared enough to make them look complementary to each other. The new hands and feel also give him a nice powerful profile while also giving him ankle articulation. The range this guy has for a combiner is staggering. As stated before the Superion head doesn't bother me because I don't have CW Superion. My Superion has it's own head that looks nothing like this one.

There's no doubt that there are draw points for Unite Warriors Computicon. It has more remolding, better weapons, and a very good paint job. However Hasbro really stepped it up with this release. The deco is much better with more detail and more paint apps and the added bonus of the new hands/feet and two bonus figures that are also unique characters all for half the price makes it a simple matter to me. I could see G1 enthusiasts preferring the UW version. you have Superion, Bruticus, Groove, and Brake-Neck then the CW version is going to seem really old. But I'm a more fickle collector and my own restrain has really paid off with this figure.

Never thought I would be so happy to have the Technobots, but this set is all aces.

Update: One detraction I have to give him is on stability. All of the Combiner Wars gestalts have stability issues (inherent problem with scramble city style, look to CW Devastator to see proper combiner engineering) but it does seem generally worse with this guy. Part of it is the bad decision for Scattershot's arms to form the upper legs (you can only tighten limbs that small so much before you stress the plastic and risk fracture) and probably due to mold degredation (the chest piece pulls apart frequently if the arms get jostled because he flops over). Extra ankle articulation doesn't do any good if the thighs and knees can't handle the weight.

Again, not that the rest of the line, Devastator included, managed much better.

Got to mess around with this combiner today...And I need to give props to Hasbro for all the paint apps thrown at this set. Hips are a little loose for posing.. but I found a way to get around that. In All, I'm happy with this Toy inspired version.

    So Cybaxx is....Boltax?!?!

    Boltax (G1) - Transformers Wiki

The actual wiki page doesn't say much about the justification for identifying Cybaxx as Boltax, but the discussion tab ties it to a recent text story.

EDIT: there's more on Computron's page:

    Of Masters and Mayhem
During the war, the Technobots were approached by the genius designer Ironclad, who had an idea to improve their combined form, with him helping to form a special arm. His idea was rejected, but the team used the idea to add Scrounge and Cybaxx, also known as Boltax, to Computron. They hoped Cybaxx's Underbase-fuelled knowledge and power would help them defeat the unstoppable Mayhem Attack Squad. It didn't. Lively Pursuit

Finally got this guy after four months of waiting.

My review presumes the use of the Perfect Effect PC-11 and PC-12 sets. I will use the Technobots' G1 names instead of the copyright placeholders in this review.

    The Good:
We finally complete the G1 S3 Autobot Combiners in Combiner Wars. Any dedicated Combiner Wars fan or TF Generations collector has all these molds at least once, so I see no need to go back over all of them. My favorite limb figures are Strafe and Afterburner, with Scattershot being an excellent enough basic torso and a remold of my very favorite Silverbolt.

Computron and the Technobots are a weird rainbow of colors, that, oddly, still work. They range from mostly reds to oranges, yellows, and whites. The Scattershot in this set looks a lot better and less monotonously colored, the the Technobots are generally colored like their G1 toys. PC-11 gives Computron his proper-looking head and chestplate, distinctive from Superion.

The basic set has the rest of the visual cues that one expects from Computron, such as the Afterburner's wheel up on his right shoulder, Strafe's guns sticking up from the left shoulder, and his wings on the left forearm, and Nosecone's drill on the left knee. PC-12 adds dark-brown colored, articulated hands and feet, instead of the rose colored ones that Computron comes with. The included feet are far superior to the hand/foot/guns in most Combiner Wars figures, and have ankle tilts, but they go either way. The PC-12 feet have ball-jointed ankles that are distinctly right and left and allow for a great degree or posing and stability. It all adds up to a beefy looking combiner who should be able to give any Decepticons a good fight.

It is also cool to get the obscure extra Marvel TF comics characters Scrounge, a remold/repaint of the excelent Cosmos Legends mold, and his Targetmaster, Cybaxx, the later of whom homages Boltax, the guardian of the Temple of Knowledge.

    The Bad:
Scattershot's shoulders are really loose as Computron's hips, and that makes it tricky to stand and pose the assembled combiner, though the PC-12 feet help with this. The stock fists that come in the boxed set are just fist-shaped hunks of plastic, although they look like they could have once been meant for more articulation. The basic head and chest of Computron are recognizable as Superion's, in different colors, but the PC-11 chest and head take care of that. The large gun that comes with PC-11 is only detailed on one side, and hollow on the other, and is challenging to store in any of the Technobot's alt modes because it is so huge. The PC-11 chestplate is tricky to slot into place because you can't close the chest panels on Scattershot's legs/ Computron's basic chest. The chestplate can be used as a shield by Scattershot in robot mode, but has nowhere to go in any of the Technobots' vehicle modes.

My least favorite limb molds, Lightspeed, and Nosecone, are the legs, and legs they shall remain. Lightspeed is a straight repaint of Streetwise, and is not a bad toy, but the head and weapon aren't even distinctive. Nosecone, sadly, is a repaint of the terrible Brawl, my least favorite limb in Combiner Wars, with a drill that is WAY too small, instead of a tank cannon. Strafe doesn't come with any guns, but the PC-12 fists can turn into a pair of blasters that I give him to make up for this.

    The Verdict:
Computron would be decent out of the box, as long as you leave Nosecone and Lightspeed as legs, although with too much resemblance to Superion in the head and chest. The advantage this set has over the UW set, besides being lower in price and easier to find, are the dedicated combiner hands and feet. PC-11 and -12 fix much of this set's shortcomings, and help make the combined Computron distinct in spite of his remolded, repainted components. Recommended, but know what you are getting, and at least pick up PC-11 for the distinctive head and chest.
