I'd hazard to guess that it didn't replicate the animation model for Galvatron well enough considering it doesn't sweep back like the retail version does.

Those proto pictures also make out that the battle mask wasn't really meant to sit flush against the Titan Master to begin with.

It's not meant to represent the animation model. It's a clear nod to the IDW Galvatron head, which belies the question again why was it changed. Hasbro hasn't been hesitant about past homages to IDW.

Perhaps it was changed to homage G1 considering the 30th for the 86 movie? Just a thought. IDW may be a big thing but it don't mean slavish G1 homages can't exist anymore, especially considering the anniversary of the original movie.

Yeah, same. I don't mind though. This one looks too "fat" and probably got retooled so it would fit in the chest better.

Okay seeing that there IS a mold made version of this helmet sculpt they should release it in the Wave 2 revision similar to how they were with the alleged revision of Onslaught. Hell I recommend giving it the ability to wrap around fully similar to Power Master OP so the head could stay inside the chest in both Alt modes. Yet if its too impossible to make that change then at least this better helmet with a few alterations to work better when concealing the Titanmaster placed on it.

I mean Nucleon is already suffering poor quality control so why not fix that matter along with some mold changes added in while making better paint applications or changing the plastic color used in it.

Looks as if the old version sits closer to the face somehow?

I can understand that, but unfortunately the crown we got looks like crap without modding it. At least this one could have potentially looked like it actually fit.

Maybe the tooling still exists and we could get another release with this crown. And hopefully in Marvel/toy colors too!

Was the cost-cutting to save on plastic worth it? How much in pesos did Hasbro make doing this?

Here are some images of my set. I don't have a US version to compare it to, but the TTomy one should have the same molding

Am I the only person who thought this was the fakebusker add-on?

I wonder why they didn't use this design in the end? Aside from just looking better it also looks like it sits a lot flusher to the head as well.

You mean to tell me...that instead of the crappy mask...we could've gotten this instead?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!

What were they thinking! Hasbro one-ups themselves on engineering then decides to hit fuck it?! 'Scuse my french prior, but this is ridiculous. I seriously doubt budget was that tight for Galvatron.

I would bet it doesn't sit anymore flush. However, because this actually looks like a helmet (well, half of one) it would make the sunken in look of the face more tolerable.

It sits more flush than the retail version, but it still has a sunken in face.

It didn't have that horrible sandstone texture, so I instantly counted out Shapeways stuff.

You mean Hasbro/Takara. Both of their releases use the second version, so it wasn't just one-sided.
I agree the prototype mask looks better, but many awesome stuff gets to prototype stage and never gets made for one reason or another.

BINGO! That or some kind of Titan Master class figure with the better helm. But that's wishful thinking... The fact that Takara didn't bother with using the better head makes you wonder.

I can't tell but, is the alternate mask on the prototype attached to a spring loaded gimmick like the retail release?
