I think so far my only real complaint is the ship prices. My starting solar system most ships were around a million credits. Now 2 or 3 systems in just about everything I see is 2-3 million on up, there is now middle ground in pricing.
Huge success today from about 6 hours of gameplay. Got lucky and 2 planets I've found in my first solar system are loaded with gold which I sold to buy antimatter. I can warp now! Gonna farm those planets and make bypass chips for a week so I can rack up as muc credits as possible. Also got 2 new inventory slots.
My only problem at this point, is I am stuck in the current system I am in. I had used my preorder ship before I got the hyperdrive quest, and didn't know about the issue til I was deep in the game. Supposedly, the stuff I read says I am to get a new quest after I bought my new ship without a hyperdrive, but I have yet to see it. Which means, I have to wait and see if that pops up, or they patch it. Starting over this late in the game isn't exactly a option.
I had been looking to see if there was a NMS thread, but pre-release my searches came up empty handed. I'm so glad I checked back now. I'm loving this game! I only found out about its existence this past May so wasn't too upset about its delay. I can see that it's not a hit for everyone and I genuinely feel for the PC players who had such a hard startup, but I am very much in love with the solitude/beauty/exploration/discovery of this game on the PS4. I don't understand how so many people can be soooo close minded to a single player game. There seems to be this modern day expectation that it HAS to be multiplayer or nothing at all. MP is not even in keeping with the developer's vision for it. It's very much a personal experience set apart from the many games on the market today aimed at a multiplayer experience. That's one thing that sets it apart and that's all there is to it. To do otherwise changes the whole dynamic of the intended purpose of the game in the first place. As for the inventory complaints, that is a deliberate game limitation that eases with experience, LIKE HOW YOU LEVEL UP IN ANY OTHER GAME. To reiterate, the more you play, the more it all opens up. This is the secret that no one seems to understand. Also many times it's been stated that things heat up the closer you get to the center of the galaxy. However, they did say lifeforms would be rare and people would have the slimmest of chances of running into one another and then it happened. I even passed through a system that someone had already named. I've actually gone out about four star systems or so and then backtracked to my home planet to pick up stuff I might have missed. Still there after 20 + hours and now equipped with a 31 slot ship, am getting the gumption to go on. I'm scared and thrilled all at the same time to set off. Placing myself into the story atmosphere/situation has always been something I've been very good at. I believe there is so much more to come for this title. Who knows what future updates will bring. It isn't for everyone, but it is for me and I love it. Good luck fellow travellers!
Seems like the best way to find chrysonite is to hang out on the space station and trade with the various ships that dock.
I don't play this but you guys need to read the reddit forum on this game. There are lots of guides and tips for earning tons of credits and items really quickly.
I'm having such a troubling relationship with this game. At times, it's simply amazing, and at others, I can clearly see the parts system at play and really don't like the grind. Then when I'm feeling pretty negative about the game, I find things like this: https://gfycat.com/EcstaticMajesticAfricanhornbill Someone made the day/night cycle of a planet into a gif. The bobbing is because of the player's breathing animation.
So, back in June, I had this to say about NMS: My curiosity got the better of me and I ended up buying NMS on release day. And while it's had its moments, I can't help but feel like my fears were borne out. I've seen some amazing planetscapes and creatures but 30 hours in, the resource grind that underpins the whole experience has become a chore. I don't WANT to land on new planets anymore because I know exactly what I'll be doing; chasing HUD icons and spending ten minutes shooting my laser at a rock formation to suck up minerals so that I can power my ship to the next solar system and repeat the cycle ad nauseam. I'm putting this one down, in the hopes that future updates expand the core gameplay mechanics.
I bought this yesterday, i'm a couple hours in still stuck on the first planet repairing my ship but i like it so far.
Got to my 5th solar system and finally found alien lifeforms. First 4 had hardly anything of note save for a lot of resources. Most are cow analogs, 4 legs herbivores and one pooped out some rare elements for me after I fed it the remains of its friend (it got aggressive after SOMEHOW a sentinel got into the range of my uber mining laser and the Mutacow got shot. Got 10 carbon units for my troubles.... and 38 Titanium). Now I find the APEX predator of the planet and had to stop playing. Could not stop laughing at it (Ill get a screenshot soon). Most of the predators encountered were T-Rexes wannabes with chicken heads but the apex pred.... it is a T-Rex with a 15ft Unicorn horn atop its head. A T-Rex with a Unicorn's horn. I may never leave the planet.
Got the Atlas stone today finally, the Atlas Station was pretty cool, now I wanna try to make my way back to my star system I started in but I went a long ways lol gonna be tough to get back. Is there a way to just plot a course on the map?
I don't blame you. I've watched and read a lot of criticisms of the game and *ALL* of it is spot on. I'm in complete agreement. The game is kind of interactive art. Something pretty to look at, but not something you can really change in any meaningful way. What I can't explain is that despite that I sometimes find myself doing the grind anyway. The game does have that going for it, but that's definitely not going to be enough for most people. I have a feeling the upcoming base building and freighter building features are going to be nothing more than additional inventory boxes to put stuff in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we'll eventually get something substantial, some kind of game system that promotes intergalactic war between the aliens. However, given the reception in the gaming community, I worry that we won't see much past the base/freighter building. This is going to hit the discount bin sooner than later. That said, I kind of envy the PC community. Yeah, they have a port that needs patching at the moment. However, there's a future of mods for this game that they're going to enjoy that *will* take the game where it needs to go. And I do look forward to the next "No Man's Sky" clone that will do the same thing. The game did put a world system on the table that people do want to have more significant interaction with.
Haha spent the last 10 minutes blowing giant flying centipede whale things out of the sky with my ship on this water planet. Wish I was able to get some screen shots.
I started playing this game yesterday after hearing about the discovery system. The idea of 100%-ing discoveries on a planet is what roped me in. I'm enjoying it so far, but man is moving slow, it takes me forever to do anything just because I move so slowly. Thankfully I figured out how to run and just fixed up my spaceship.
You can get upgraded to run longer and stuff, plus once you get your ship fixed you can anywhere super fast. You can boost in your ship too, for more speed, around 150u while in atmosphere, and faster out in space. Then you have your warp for super fast travel between planets and space stations. I usually just warp everywhere I'm going.
It's a bit of a bug that will probably get patched out, but for now if you start running, melee, and immediately jump after starting to melee you get l,launched forwards. Makes traveling on foot a lot faster.
I made it to my first space station and now i'm stuck on the near by planet with no plutonium. Did anyone else follow the homing beacon on the first planet back to your original crash site?! that irked me lol.
THIS! It'd be pretty stupid to patch it out even if they didn't intend it because it's a VERY fun way to explore. The game really needs that. And I'm not entirely sure it's a bug either because it's something that makes the jet pack actually useful. Otherwise you'd barely use it. By the way, I don't think you need to be running to do it. I just hit the melee and jet pack button at near the same time. Depending on the timing between the button presses, I can go for differing distances.
