    Just like the title reads.

I know that some folks have a problem with characters that aren't traditionally headmasters in the TR line.

Please don't forget to take the poll.

No problem at all for me. I'm technically a "geewunner" (I hate the term though) but I'm not opposed to characters and their toys evolving along with the franchise.

Hey if it means we get a retail Alpha Trion, a more G1 accurate Blurr, and a better Galvatron & Astrotrain plus a bunch of other characters that need updates (Getaway, Doublecross, & Triggerhappy). Then sure make them Headmasters.

I don't mind the "extra" heads, but for characters who aren't headmasters, i'd rather see their proper "master". Like Blurr should be a targetmaster and getaway should be a powermaster

Stealing my own post from the PM Optimus review thread:

I can be a stodgy old man about historical preferences as much as anyone (making Optimus Prime + random 84/85 Autobots Combiners for instance), but i have a hard time with folks wholesale knocking the Titans Return line for making characters who weren't headmasters before headmasters now, i mean just in G1: Prime wasn't a Powermaster... until he was,, Blurr wasn't a Targetmaster... until he was, Starscream wasn't a Pretender... until he was, Hot Rod wasn't a Micromaster... until he was, NOBODY were Actionmasters until, unfortunately, they were. In other words, as throughout the history of the line, gimmicks gonna gimmick.

Don't get me wrong, i'd Prefer the Powermasters were Powermasters and the Targetmasters were Targetmasters, but i'm not so sussed about it that i'm not going to get some of these sweet molds, especially since they look great in robot mode which is how they will live on display...

My bigger gripe is apparently leaving out the Horrorcons when you have voyagers that very specifically are "Triple Changer Headmasters" and ALL the Headmaster Juniors being left out.

I think the Head Master gimmick hurt how cool of a toy Voyager Galvatron could have been.

Honestly, I think he's the only one that suffers from the gimmick simply due to the faceplate system he uses.

PMOP's works well on the other hand since if you don't like the HM gimmick, you can simply leave his head in place when you transform him into alt mode.

    Stick to the script!

Since this is largely an 'update' line, I'd prefer they make the updates accurate, and not unnecessarily clutter things up with extra gimmicks (especially clunky ones, big old block heads and huge sections dedicated to being seats). Plus, gimmicks often make the character; a lot of what makes Soundwave Soundwave is his deployer trick. Give everybody the same ability and they all immediately become boring.

I'm of two minds. I love the play style! But I do wish the non-Headmaster characters were served in their traditional gimmicks.

In the end, the play style is winning me over. But that still doesn't mean I'm not disappointed. And I have a feeling I'm not the only one with this opinion.

    Honestly? No.

Hasbro's fiction for their own G1 reboot will justify the progression from what it started off as, to having combiners, to having Titans and Titan Masters, to whatever comes next. And down the line, classic G1 fans will have their CHUGs. And fans of the new G1 continuity will have their version of these characters.

And then comes TakaraTomy's version. What many may have not known is that Transformers Legends was their current return to their JG1 continuity. And with the current fiction, it does acknowledge that Blurr was not a Headmaster or Targetmaster. It starts off by saying how, and even why, he became one.

Because of this, it is not like they are tossing in characters for the sake of making this gimmick functional. There was thought put into this, with these being new characters for Hasbro's sake... And updates to select classic characters. Which can lead to more changes to other classic characters. ("Powermaster" Scorponok anybody?) :)

I like the idea of creativity - that kids can mix and match heads and bodies to create new characters, or simply improve on the looks of their favourites. I'm planning on making the Clobber head the go-to noggin for Wolfwire, for instance. Put the Loudmouth head on Sentinel Prime and suddenly Hosehead's a spaceship. Put the Ptero head on Blurr and suddenly Swoop's a car. It's fun!

While I respect that some fans are stoked for Headmasters, I never liked the HM gimmick and it's one of the reasons I took a break from collecting so many years ago. The idea was just terrible, in my opinion. I felt that it turned awesome characters into nothing more than glorified Mecha.

The updates in the TR line have been a mixed bag for me. While I do like some of them, I just wish characters like Blurr and Scourge would have been Target Masters instead so the base figure wouldn't be compromised (as I see it) by the HM gimmick.
I'm honestly happy it's been relatively easy to modify Blurr, Scourge and Galvatron to ignore the gimmick.

I don't really care for the Headmasters gimmick in general, that said I don't care at all about it being implemented on characters that weren't traditionally Headmasters either.
Given how much I'm loving the few TR toys I have so far, and how great the line is shaping up to be, I can totally live with the gimmick if it means great toys.

G1er or Geewunner? Not sure if I'm the only one who thinks of it this way but I tend to differentiate between people who are just more conservative and prefer the originals to people who are dicks about it. And I can't say you've ever struck me as the latter.

I voted no, simply because additional variety for the line as a whole can only be positive in the long term. Transformers should go forward long after those of us who were around for '84 are gone, IMHO, and the best way to do that is to be flexible.

(True, I'd much prefer the Targetmasters to be Targetmasters, etc. But I have to agree that TR Blurr works very nicely, and those characters whom I can't mentally "agree" with being Headmasters, I just don't have to purchase. More power to the folks who want those figures. :)

No, because they would quickly run out of original Headmasters characters if they did.

From 1987, we are only missing Apeface, Snapdragon and Scorponok. While we are missing all six "Headmaster Juniors" from 1988.

Why not? We have the Masterpiece line (and various third parties contributing) for G1 accuracy. Might as well have fun with the mainline.
