Yeah, a lot of TVs have a crappy frame interpolation thing; if you poke around in the settings you should be able to turn it off. DVD probably looks better for you because it's harder to notice in standard def.

Maybe, but from what I've seen, it just makes everything look fake, which it is, but it doesn't need to look obvious. I dunno, if the theater is the supposed best way to see a movie, why don't they use Blu-Ray? Theaters still look like movies...DVDs look like the theater.

Sounds like a lot of people don't know how to set up and properly calibrate their tvs. Do yourselves a favor and look up your tv model on a home theater or CNET site and get it setup properly. It will make a huge difference in how things look. The. "tv" effect look is usually caused by having your tv on the wrong refresh rate.

As others have said, this is a setting in your TV. Its called fluid motion or something, go through your settings and turn it off and you'll be amazed at the difference.

Also: movie theaters dont use DVD either. They do digital projection which is a step ABOVE blu ray. DVD is 480 scan lines, blue ray is 1080. Theater is higher than that,

You can use a digital projector to project DVD or BluRay as well. the difference is the source material. A DCP, basically a digital file is used, which is what DVDs and blurays also hold but yes, theaters will use a higher quality, less compressed and higher resolution file.

Keep in mind that some tvs are just pos and look like crap no matter what you do.

Got the response from Shout about my questions:

Our digital copies are served by VHX, a Vimeo company.

    https://www.vhx.tv/

The digital copy is in a widescreen aspect ratio; I am not sure of the exact specifications.

    Shout! Factory

So yeah, this release is useless to me.

I usually just give the DVD away. I think the logic behind them is that you may have a DVD player in the car for the kids or something. Have no kids so unless I find someone who wants a DVD copy they will be never used.

You guys were right...changing the settings made a huge difference! It looks like a DVD now... :lol

I actually can't tell a major difference not seeing the two side by side, mostly because I always thought DVDs looked really good in their own right. I'm sure it's better, but I don't think OMG, it's night and day! But at least I don't think Blu-Ray sucks and looks like home movies now. So that's a huge step up, anyhow.

I'd be interested in the DVD if you don't need it.

Haha, np and enjoy your movies from now on.

Ok, it's yours, unless, of course, it's loaded with bonuses not on the blu ray. Which I don't think it will!

I hold onto them in case I end up going to a friend's house and they don't have a BR player.

    Much appreciated!

That's why I was interested in the digital dl version, until I got the info I posted earlier from Shout.

I already have 2 copies of this movie on DVD. And yet, I still can't decide which version I want to get.

I'm perplexed by the DVD inclusion, too. What the hell do you need it for???
My best guess? They throw it in there to give you the illusion of extra value (and therefore, higher price). I.e. buy 3 socks, get 1 free (when you only need 1 or 2 pairs).

I lend/use DVDs when going to friends' houses, just to make sure nothing happens to the Blu ray itself. If the DVD gets destroyed, at least I still have the Blu ray.

Honestly, unless the movie was shot in amazing high def, I can't tell the difference between Blu and standard. They look pretty much the same to me. :sly:

(I could have a crappy TV, though, as I don't spend $1000s on my sets).

I want it available on a streaming service like iTunes so I can watch from Apple TV or my phone or whatever without downloading a file that takes space on the device and time it takes to dl.

Seems like you will be able to that but I got notice that it will only be the cropped version.
