Beautiful! I remember ask the kids cried when Optimus died, but I was already out of tears from my favorite's earlier death, Ironhide.

 

I always thought the movie was a total downer after the battle of autobot city. You can see exactly where the Japanese animators helped out and where the money started to run out. It's that Akira syndrome, after the opening sequence they blew their budget and it can be seen. The lush colors and animation are gone.

That shit bothered me as a child and still does today. Also the TF movie focused on all these shitty bitchmade characters after the battle of autobot city that it never had a chance to be great. It's only saving grace was Unicron. Instead of prime, grim, megs, ss, jazz etc the movie focused on cup, arcee, springer, mags and dickwad.

The second half of their movie and season 3/4 is what killed the tf franchise back in the day. Instead of a cooler and better autobot leader we got the bitchmade emo dickwad as autobot leader. If you can't do a better prime, you better keep prime. So fucking stupid.

Did they add any scenes btw,?

 

You kidding me? I always hated that redneck and hated bb as a child, so when at least Ironhide got done in hard like that I was all smiles. Iittle did I know they would be replaced by far worse to come...

I liked all the deaths, I hated their replacement characters.

 

WOW! This really takes me back in time. I remember me and my dad went to the theater and watched this. I was 10 and remember seeing Prime die on the big screen and with a tears welling up. Prime was childhood hero and like most kids back then, you wanted to do everything that your hero did. I can say I was into just about everything like Star Wars, He-Man, GI Joe and Mask, but I feel Transformers was my thing as a kid.

Crazy as it sounds, I still get teary eyed when I see all the transformers that died in the 86 movie

 

Eh, I should probably post something before the day's up. I just can't muster up the energy to really say anything positive about such an over-saturated part of the franchise right now. Still, it was one of the first pieces of TF fiction I saw, and it was a high point for the G1 cartoon's quality.

 

Heh, I do know what you mean. Ironically since the live action movies became the focus of The Transformers media the entire franchise has become a constant rehashing of G1 and the major characters from it(however I do remember a time when that was all most adult collectors wanted, it appears we've made our own bed there). I'm all for nostalgia and beautiful MP or even Generations versions of our favourite characters over the years but It would be nice to see something new and more importantly good.

However I have just popped my 20th Anniversary Edition of the movie in the DVD player and am having a great time reliving it for the umpteenth time.

 

So will the visuals on the blu-ray be any better than the DVD? I know they talk about a 4K transfer but we're talking animation, not real-life photography. If it is a step up in quality from what we already have I'm interested.

 

Last night went to Alamo Draft House to see Transformers the Movie on the big screen for the 30th Anniversary, 30 years to the date when I saw it when it first saw it back in 1986!!! AWESOME!!!!

 

Yeah I usually turn the movie off after the Decepticons leave Autobot city, the rest of it just bores me silly.

I remember as a kid being extremely confused and unhappy when all my fave characters suddenly began dying to shit that never bothered them before, especially Optimus who died because of a little hole in his side.

Never really took to any of the new characters either, other than Ultra Magnus and he is made to look like a ****** in the movie, something they actually improve upon on season 3.

So yeah, never did and still don't really like a majority of the animated movie, but appreciate the iconic things it introduced to the franchise.

 

The Blu-ray is a much better quality visually. What the 4K transfer means they took the original 35mm print of the film and digitally converted the film to 4K digital data. Then with computer programs did visual changes to the data print of the film. Which later on they could release a 4K version of the film which will be closer to seeing the original 35mm print in theaters in 1986 when it was new. I have Transformers the Movie on Blu-ray released on October 1st 2007 in the UK only by Metrodome which blows away any DVD copy on the market. I have had it for almost a decade and my DVD copies just collect dust. The Blu-ray I have is in 1080p and is excellent and the details and color restoration is excellent. I will be curious to see the comparison between the 2 Blu-rays to see if there are any differences between the Metrodome and the Shout Factory versions.

 

I wish I saw it in theaters.

But I up for it by nearly killing the VHS and VCR.

Since I got the VHS and 20th Anni DVD, I sure I'm lowballing it when I say I saw it 100 times.

Not perfect, but still the only Transformers film to give us a bit of everything from titled characters.

 

I have very, very dim memories of my dad taking me to see it in theatres, but I do remember renting the VHS from a local video store (remember those?) over and over and over again, whenever I went to see him.

Still love it to this day, warts and all.

 

When I first watched this movie, I didn't know as much about Transformers as I do now. It was some time after the first Bayformers movie, which had got me into the franchise, as well as into G1 (my uncle have tons of the original toys also played a part). I think I'd only seen half of the first season, so I had no idea who most of the characters were. I cried when Optimus died, as everyone before me has. Ever since then, this has been my favorite animated movies of all time. I love watching the whole movie. There are some movies where you have a specific favorite part and sometimes watch your copy of that movie just for that part. This isn't that kind of movie for me; I watch the whole thing because the whole movie is my specific favorite part. I know just about every line by heart and can parrot character tones with the same accuracy. No matter what new Transformers movies come out, this one will always be the greatest of them all.

 

Reminder to people looking to potentially get this (and yes I know it has been posted before by myself and others), but Amazon has both the regular blu-ray AND the limited edition steelbook on sale for $20.

It probably depends on what DVD you have but...

So, the 4K transfer part and HD BluRay will give you better resolution than DVD but I'm not so sure how much the restoration is just marketing fluff from restoration work that was already done long ago.

 

I'm confused, the trailer says its out now but Amazon says September. Am I missing something?

 

30 years after the release and people are still whinging about Rodimus.

 

By far my most and memorable movie of my life. Watched it yesterday with my son and I was so emotional. 30 year's was so long ago. Thinking about it was that long ago is a bit sad for me. I remember being 9 years old 8/8/86 seeing it with my friend on that day. We were blown away by the movie. Walking home we were silent as we couldn't believe that prime, and Starscream, Ironhide, Brawn, Prowl, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Windcharger were all dead.

Rodimus Prime was the new leader. Megatron was now Galvatron. Skywarp, Thundercracker, insecticons were remade into Scourge, Sweeps, and Cyclonus. Unicron transformed. Just so overwhelmed with all that happened. We were so used to S1 and S2 characters. To be honest we didn't like the change. We were still excited, but there was a void. No movie has touched me the way that movie did. Best Animated hands down I ever seen. I have always been a g1 fan all my life. Happy 30th anniversary Tftm.

 

Yes! I have the same bluray as you. And it looks so much better than any DVD release by far imo. I don't even watch the others. Evertime I watch it, it is the Blu-ray Metrodome copy. And I anxious to compare that one and the new one. I have a feeling the new one won't be better looking than the 2007 U.K one.
