I...what.........it's.......that in no way screams Hot Rod to me. Not even taking into consideration the movie aesthetics. That head just holy hell that just is not right.

Yeah I don't think it had anything to do with his Spark and or where it was. I'm sure his spark was still in his chest like most. The reason Jazz was killed off in the first movie was because 1. Bay knew nothing about TFs and didn't care that it was Jazz, someone was going to die. 2. Bay said himself that he didn't like the alt mode for Jazz and there was not very much to pick from from GM at the time so they went with that car for Jazz. He even admitted to killing off Jazz because he didn't like that car. And IMO, I don't think Bay cared enough to think that the movie MIGHT do elk and another movie would be requested.

    Hot Rod: JUST

    Bay: Say no more

His design has more of that simplicity the transformers usually have, which is nice to see on the big screen.
However his head looks like that bounty hunter Leia dressed up as in ROTJ, but I believe it's a battle mask and not his actual face, especially since this film is 'knight' themed. The rest of the Autobots (except for the dinobots) have gotten humanoid faces, why shouldn't he?

HOT ROD! Great to see him being brought to film, and it opens up possibilities for the future of the series.

Body looks fine, but what's with the weird generic face with insectoid eyes. Looks more Decepticon than Autobot.

The Bay movies aren't G1, they're not trying to be. I get it that the designs of the characters are a huge turn off for some fans. I just don't understand why after 9 other Transformers series each adding different things to the franchise, some fans can't accept that the Bay movies are NOT G1, they were never intended to be. There have been many different approaches to these characters, some stick fairly close to the original concept of the character and others stray further away.

The films use different aspects from the entire history of Transformers as well as creating it's own to tell it's stories. If all some want is a red van named Iron Hide, yellow Volkswagen for Bumblebee, or a futuristic red sports car with flames painted on it and a yellow spoiler, then you don't have to look any further than the 1986 movie and season 3.

These movies are not only for the fans who have been obsessively following Transformers for the past 30+ years, but to a far wider audience.

Thing is though this could of been an chanve to make a creative design that was overall appealing na robot the colors red orange and yellow moxed in with flames would look great as well an custom alt mode like sideswipe got in DOTM but no we got a lazy design thats orange and black and just resembles bumblebee cause there brothsrs in arms WHICH doesn't make them Brothers

Such a generic face. Give him some side wings on his head. Some red flames or something subtle to make him stand out a little. I love me some Hot Rod and know that the movie design isn't going to resemble the all hailed G1, but make him stand out from the crowd a little.

The 70's to the 90's had their share of money making only movies back then too you know. Same goes for the other eras before current years. Not to mention some people called the 90's a dark time for some movies back then as well.

Not to mention we've had TF series before the movies that had some characters be nothing like their G1 counterparts too so the movies aren't the only ones who first came up with it.
