so as you can tell from my sig,i am a devoted decepticons worshipper/follower.
now i have to note that i know that the movie verse is not of the origin and quality we would all hope it to be,and i am fine with that.

with that being said, this is still not an excuse to disregard the decepticons in the way the movies seem to do.
for sure the first one had more or less correct:a strong a dangerous force with some of the cons having good development for a "first intro" in the movie verse.

    but what happend after that?

a sudden decrease in decepticon development has presented itself.
new cons for the most part didn't have development or even good lines.
the more notable cons are used as false advertisement (shockwave) and are just bullet fodder.

simply put:decepticons are to weak and easy of a "thread" to be taken serious anymore.something you can't have in a cinematic universe.

now with what i have seen from the pics with the new decepticon crew with barricade, towtruck,VW,and motorcycle and even lord megatron (hail him you filthy insects!) all having intresting and eye catching design elements (the autobot kills on the truck),i might have returning hope for a respectfull eye for attention by the crew for these villains.

these movies will always be more targeted to a mainstream audience for all ages, something i do respect.but it would not hurt if the cons get more attention aswell.
the cons where always kinda left on the side even on the toy side of things(masterpiece being most notable). but recently the toys have gotten more decepticons updates in the main lines from hasbro.
with that increase of note for that faction in the toyline, hasbro could bring that increace over to the movie verse aswell.
we all know that hasbro has a strong saying in the robot cast.

so with this "outcry" i hope that my expectations about TLK decepticons will come true.

they seem to have a increase of respect to the lore with this film(cybertron being rumored to be featured more and the expanding lore of the knights.) so i hope they will do the same with the characters from the other side of justice.

sorry for my writing errors, the translating device on earth is not up to par with our native cybertronian language.(keeps on mistaking our language with chinese for some reason.) intergalactic message over.

I agree a lot with you. I think the reason the amount of Decepticons in TLK is small is because they are trying to make them more meaningful and brute, like in TF1. I also agree that they definitely seem to be putting more thought, and bringing more attention to the Transformers lore with this film. Look at how they're bringing back Cybertron (the exact same way it looked in TF3), the Sun Harvesters, and the Knights theme from TF4...I definitely feel that this time they're putting their hearts into this movie. Its such a great thing, but its so underrated and unrecognized like it should be by not just regular everyday Internet people but also TF fans here on TFW. And people continually try to point out the films' issues as even when they're small errors or flaws. TLK should prove people wrong but in the end these same people will try to say it's shit.

PS, Im basically your brother, I recently got promoted from Predacon to Vehicon, so Im a Decepticon too. Funny cause my name is Mega Prime (Optimus should be my brother) but the people here on TFW don't like me.

yes! one of the major, MAJOR bees i have with bay's movies.

well, actually, the D-cons started out really well in the 2007 Transformers. No problems there. The Cons were as good and awesome as the Autobots, whether it was Barricade, Starscream, Megatron, and even with the smallest roles like Bonecrusher and Brawl (Devastator?).

fast forward to ROTF, the Cons were still good. I liked their fight with Optimus in the forest. BUT, the reveal of The Fallen was kind of, i don't know, it was just not satisfying. i don't know if it had anything to do with the design of The Fallen, or that Prime brutalized him at the end.. I dunno. And also Megatron still for the most part had lobster/insectoid hands, so, yeah....... but looking at the Cons from this time's vantage point, loads of things could've been done, most especially with the introduction of the first combiner in the movies, Devastator. but that too failed.

Then DOTM came.... And i don't know. Cuz, from ROTF, i really was not thrilled with the sight of Decepticon drones. i guess the designs just looked bland for the drones. if they served as Megatron's uniformed soldiers, i would've preferred the looks of the Vehicon drones from Transformers Prime or a variation of it to make them look sleek, awesome and badass. And it's just, i guess the Cons were disorganized. By then, Soundwave's alt-mode I was not satisfied. I would've preferred a Transformers Prime Soundwave and the characteristics he has - silent killer but loyal to a tee.

basically the common trend starting from ROTF until AOE, is that the Cons for the most part, with i guess Megatron and Starscream's exception, were that they did not have any personalities. This is why I appreciate the Decepticons from Transformers Prime and RID15 because at least they talk to amongst each other, they have meaningful interactions, they have their banters, etc. After the first movie, bay's Decepticons just didn't give me any satisfaction, that they were extreme badasses (like Transformers 2007 Barricade and Starscream).

Also, by DOTM, i started questioning Megatron's design. it was just ugly at that point. Bay could've made an effort to improve his design so at least he more/less looks like formidable, not a beast with an insect/lobster/crab arm/hand. And also what's up with that hole in his head being fixed by a Cybertronian bug? at that point also i started seeing better Megatron designs off the internet and i wish those had ended up being in the movies.

One of my biggest beefs with the first three films was the complete inability to capitalize on any of the narrative toss-ups or characterizations set up during those films. There were some genuinely interesting ideas and concepts set into play with the Decepticons, and instead of following up on them the Decepticons just seemed to become more alien and monstrous in each film before being put down, more or less.

    What a waste of potential.

everything changed once optimus executed demolisher...he & sentinel basically became the most badass 'decepticons' of the filmverse :)

i feel like this film is going to be the 'empire strikes back' of the filmverse...decepticons will rule the day for once!

agreed the fallen got his butt whipped...he should have at least killed like jolt or something..he got absolutely manhandled...did the cons no favors

    starscream in 2 & 3 was pathetic

as a decepticon fan it was downright offensive to have a siege which included the likes of megatron, starscream, soundwave, & shockwave & with a prime on their side no less & yet still only manage to kill the pitiful movieverse wheeljack...disgrace

im just holding my breath & hoping barricade is indeed still alive & not a ksibot..man that would be so disappointing..if is is indeed barricade, i wonder if he will get cheers upon his first transformation like ironhide did for rotf (never heard a theater cheer louder)

also, if megs is coming back, & it's not like a flashback, it's gotta be hugo otherwise it will just be weird...i know some may disagree but i thought he did a great job as megatron..ironically i wouldn't mind if barricade's voice is different...im assuming it will be

this film series is in desperate need of competent decepticons again...that's why film 1 was generally well-received...starscream, frenzy, blackout, scorponock, & barricade came to play...we got a sliver of that in the sequels (mainly megatron, ravage, & soundwave in rotf & the deliciously psychotic laserbeak in dotm) but far too little

dotm was a decepticon fan's worst nightmare really...embarrassing

heck, there wasn't even a single true 'decepticon' in film 4...crazy!

so far im liking the reveals...the earth autobots roster is already stacked..really no need to add to it..maybe 1 or 2 new bots max...prime in space is a different story...decepticons need an entire new team to combat the dinobots alone & it looks like we may get that!

Starscream had what? Like 1 line? Barricade asked a question which required him to say "ladiesman217".. Scorponok said nothing.. Frenzy was mostly unintelligible. And blackout walked super slow and got shot in the crotch.

    Lastly, and worst of all..

Megatron TF1- "killed" by a human.
    Frenzy- "killed" fighting humans.
    Blackout- killed by humans.
    Starscream- killed by a human.
    Devastator- destroyed by humans.
    Alice- killed by a human.
    Shockwave- SEVERELY disabled by humans.
And in Chicago there were quite a few more.

Big names like megatron, starscream, and devastator don't deserve death by humans. It's utterly ridiculous.

Glad to see a somewhat like-minded fan around. I completely agree.

Now this is somewhat debatable, but I do agree to an extent. As far as character development goes, I feel the sequels are slightly stronger. The 'Cons in TF1 really didn't interact with each other, and none of them really had any character at all. They were, however, distinct, and somewhat memorable. Each of them had a very distinct vehicle form, and they all got at least one scene each where they get to be bad ass.

The sequels gave Megatron and Starscream more interactions, gave them more character, and introduced Sentinel and Laserbeak, two very well handled villains. The problem was, there was too many villains to really give enough of them memorable moments, and the few improvements I mentioned ended up feeling too minor, and had too many flaws.

Megatron beat on Scream for no reason, as Scream never showed any signs of treachery. Meg was just a paranoid madman beating up a suck-up. In ROTF specifically, Meg also had few memorable lines, since they were all given to the Fallen, who did nothing for the whole film, before dying like a bitch.

DOTM really, really came close to being great. It tried to give Megatron a character arc in which Megatron would be humbled, before calling an end to the war. Unfortunately, the last minute change to the ending that saw the 'Bots slaughter all his forces, and him dying like a bitch resulted in there being no conclusion to his arc, outside of spitefully attacking Sentinel, which led to his own undoing. Sentinel and Beak were still good, but they were only two characters, and Meg, Scream and Sound's shittiness weighed them down.

simply put:decepticons are to weak and easy of a "thread" to be taken serious anymore.something you can't have in a cinematic universe.

This is my hope as well. It has been said Hasbro has more control over the Cinematic Universe than they had with previous films, so I'm hoping the more distinct looking vehicle selections for TLK indicates them improving the 'Cons. Hasbro may be somewhat neglectful of Decepticons, but they still know their franchise hinges on selling both heroes, and villains for the heroes to fight. One would think they realize that, in order for the fiction to advertise villains, it needs to make them memorable.

Well, the last movie did include a fair bit of TF lure, such as the Creators. It also expanded upon the mistrust between the humans and 'Bots in DOTM, showing Sentinel's warnings as being true, and turned Megatron's line "Who would you be without me, Prime?" into foreshadowing. In the eyes of humanity, he's actually nothing without Meg. I'm really not certain we could expect much more for TLK.

*opens mouth, then hesitates* No, wait. I've made my feelings on this clear in the thread you made on that subject.

True, they didn't have much in terms of characterization, but they were at least somewhat memorable. Barricade had the whole "bad cop" shtick, interrogating Sam, and getting into a (fairly uneventful) carchase with Bee. Scorponok was the only animal-like 'Con, and hunted down the soldiers in the desert. Frenzy lived up to his name, being incredibly energetic. Blackout was the first TF seen on screen, and wiped out an entire military base. Screamer got into a dogfight with those F22s. All of this, at the very least, made each of them distinct, even if not well developed. I'll also add that Screamer was the one leading the 'Cons throughout the film, and did a good job of it.

I'll give you most of those, Devastator was a complete waste, and if I recall, was a waste by design, as they wanted to make him feel like something that was commonplace for Cybertronians. That idea should've died after the first draft... Well, I guess the writers strike got in the way there, but that's why Paramount should've pushed the film back. Devastator, along with Alice were completely pointless additions to the film, along with Screamers, when talking about ROTF and DOTM.

However, while Megatron shouldn't have died by a human, there was at least a powerful Cybertronian artifact involved. Frenzy was absolutely tiny, and put a good fight, plus killed himself, which fits for that specific character. Blackout did die from humans, but there was an airstrike involved, tho it was incredibly downplayed by the film. Shockwave was an utter waste, but I will point out that a lot of the damage done to him was done by the Wreckers, something that was, again, downplayed. The films really hated putting focus on the right things, even when they were there.

in film 1, it's not so much what they said but more about what they did & how they weren't completely incompetent

& i agree with ya 100% on the humans...you're preaching to the choir, im right with ya! absolute nonsense..if you look through my posts i pretty much cant go two or three posts without bringing up my bitterness on this subject:)

i still cant & wont ever get over how bad the battle of chicago was if you're a decepticon fan

the last knight needs to bring some balance back to the series for the decepticons..its our damn time now!

I wouldn't say that the movie cons being weak isn't completely true. Like it's been mentioned they actually did put up a tough fight in some cases so it's not like they went down with a whimper. Also from the looks of it The Last Knight does seem to be making the new Decepticons have more of arole here in terms of personality at least I hope so.

Also I may argue that when it comes to villains the MCU isn't different in that regard from the Tf movies with a few exceptiosn of course.

I have to agree. While there wasn't a lot of character development the 1st film made them much more of a challenge to the Autobots. They were a much more menacing bunch than any of the other 3 movies. Does no one seem to remember it took 4 Autobots and a handful of humans to finally take down Brawl???? Bonecusher was the same size as Optimus and as short as his screentime was, it was still a heck of a fight! Devastator, Alice and the Fallen were absolutely terrible characters! The KSI bots in TF4 don't count as Decepticons since they were man-made T-1000s. Shockwave was a bit of a disappointment as well. The only transformer that never "transformed!"

I would have like to seen Blackout get taken out in the 1st movie by Ironhide and Ratchet "possibly with human help" instead of Lennox shooting him in the crotch. The need more Autobot vs Decepticon battles. It seems that almost every Decepticon that wasn't a protoform and had an actual name either battled and/or was killed by either Optimus, Bumblebee or a human.

We can all dream, but I don't see any reason to indicate that this will be the case. The Autobots...and humans...win every single time. Part of the reason is probably because the films are rather self-contained and episodic, but maybe that will change with the new goals they have in mind.

However, I am not reading story spoilers so maybe you know something I don't. From the slight information I am aware of though, I don't see any reason why this would be anything akin to The Empire Strikes Back!
