Seriously tho, f*ck those hatin jag-offs! I still can't find ANYTHING good about Sunsurge. Ok, yea, his wheels didn't fall off taking him out of the box.... woopity fekkin do! QC is all he's going for him. Ass end in car mode looks like shit, back side in bot mode looks like shit, fake chest, proportions are out to lunch, transformation is f*cked... WTH!?!?

In my own sick little mind I think they hate because they had to have a Streaker and impulse bought the first to market from a reputable company, but then realized they over paid for a shit looking fig once the saw how well our turds polish up and got butt hurt.

Yes. I have no dog in this fight, since I hate both designs, but instead of responding back with more insults, why not just ignore them? Be the mature one and cease the cycle of hate. By replying you are just perpetuating it.

The average IQ in the states is already 96, its low enough so I hope not. But that isn't it. Message boards and anonymity tend to let social norms, respect and etiquette fly out the window. Some people behave nothing like they would in the real world. If you won't say it face to face you should not on the web either. But that's not the case, which is why I rarely post. I don't need validation from strangers, but I welcome friendship and camaraderie. There is a lot less of that than 10 years ago. Things they are a changin.

Honestly I spent more time on my first transformation of Spinout and had to refer to instructions because of the weird chest/neck floating thing and how things don't tab in.

If Spinout had the QC of Sunsurge it would indeed be easier IMO. And maybe with the shapeways fix it will be?

Having figured out how to make torso locks with Bondic, I can attest to that little change at the factory making this figure sooo much less stable. The torso locks make a world of difference.

I am also interested in the "hand feel" of these guys. Do they have any weight to them? Do they feel solid in both modes? I don't mind a fiddly transformation as long as it all comes together tight in the end.

You'd best look elsewhere then. There's no solidity to it, feels cheap. Sorry, it's not a good toy to get if you like heftiness. Fanstoys Grenadier this ain't.

And yes, I did own the toy (sold it due to dissatisfaction) so I am speaking from my own experience.

Nope, it is a floppy mess without work. With the new pieces he might be satisfying to handle, but right now he's best as a statue

Spinout locks together very tightly and compact in car mode. Feels great in this mode, but only rolls well with some work to secure the wheels and create a tiny lift in the back end so the under carriage doesn't drag. Not too dissimilar to MP Hot Rod.

Spinout in robot mode is not stable in the torso without some work or extra care. The factory torso tabbing near the head is OK at best. Mine (two) have tabbed in tight, but the factory ommission of the lower torso tabs creates instability that can cause the top to work loose during play/handling/posing. The designer has posted replacement parts on Shapeways to provide the lower torso tab. The factory shoulders have limited articulation outwards. The Shapeways parts can also fix this, though several of us have modded it without new parts to provide the designed articulation. The forearms can seem a little delicate when open during transformation, but feel OK when closed and tabbed. Double jointed elbows, dual hinged knees, solid ankle tilts and great range of motion in the feet allow for very dynamic and stable posing. The top back of the legs need to be trimmed to allow for a proper thigh swivel and the hip outward movement seems to be really loose on everyone's copies, though easy enough to fix. Out of the box robot mode feel is wide ranging from poor to fair to middling. With the suggested mods, good to great.

There is no die cast in the figure. So the heft of others like FT insecticons or MMC Sphinx is not there. Weight wise, he's a little bit lighter than MP Sideswipe, IMO, no scales involved. In hand feel other than the torso shakiness is pretty good.

As seen in the reviews, this figure has issues out of the box. The more recently purchased copies seem to be better than early ones. In my case, my second copy, purchased recently, was tighter than my first copy. Both have been fully modded and both are really good right now. This toy is one of my favorites to mess around with and pose. I don't think I'm stretching the truth to say that this figure has been transformed more than any of my other MP style bots. He's definitely improved Sideswipe's play time dramatically.

FansToys has only made one carbot so far (Hound), but as far as I'm concerned I don't think that Takara could much improve on their design. Second to that (aesthetically, anyway) I feel like XTB's got it pretty accurate with both Windcharger and Beachcomber, although both have slightly fiddly transformations, and Omni's Sunstreaker and Ocular Max's Mirage come in pretty close behind XTB. I'm a huge fan of BadCube's mini-bots so far (I own Huffer, Brawn, and Warpath) and also have SunSurge, but I feel like their mini-bots are only about 75-80% there as far as quite getting it right, but Sunsurge has not fared well with me at all since owning him. I very quickly went from "meh" with him to "why did I buy this?".

Warpath is probably their strongest entry, even if his transformation is a tad fiddly, and even with the bad QC on the paint on (granted, Cubex but still) Huff, I still prefer him over SunSurge. SunSurge just doesn't look MP, nor does it look like any canon I've ever seen. His construction is a lot more solid, but hell... Mine broke straight out of the box. At least Spinout was only missing a wheel in my first version, which I got BBTS to replace.

Had I not been in the middle of moving my fiancée cross-country to live with me, I would have bothered sending my SS back to BBTS to get a replacement, but combined with my dislike for him, and with his foot/hood clip breaking straight out of the box, I basically just said "fuck it" and decided not to bother. I'm only keeping it for the Chip Chase, and the fact that it's a semi-decent vehicle mode.

Full disclosure: I paid full price for my Spinout, too, and yet still prefer it over SunSurge.

Let me put it this way, with my makeshift torso locks, I no longer have to pinch his chest and back together while posing him. I can hold him at the waist and do full arm movement without the neck tabs unlocking. Feels like any other figure now.

The chest tabbing in with the new waist piece should bring the bottom of the windshield in tighter too, which is something that bugs be visually with Spinout. Hope this new material shows up soon on shapeways

Is there any way the 3d model files can be made available outside of Shapeways?

Dude is a hassle. Chest weird neck. Tops of feet popping off. But it's true. He looks good with sideswipe.
So glad I can just have both!

I'm a threat to get a KO swipe to have two sets of twins on display in separate places.

Just a quick question, are the shapeways pieces releases yet? If so, can anyone provide a link please.
