I find it ironic that if Rodimus had been up front with Megatron about helping the Millarians, they could have avoided drawing the ire of the Galactic Council.

Good point. In fact, Rodimus alone is basically responsible for the Galactic Council of generi-aliens being so vindictive towards them because of how much of a tosser he was back in the annual.

But Getaway is still the one that deserves a brutal death? :I

He used at least one thought-bullet on EVERY MEMBER OF THE CREW.

Except, ironically, Megatron, and probably Tailgate because he was working Tailgate while Tailgate still wanted to kill Megatron.

...he made fun of his hat.

The Council retaliated by attempting to incinerate his ship and crew, save Magnus.

In Rodimus' self-defense action, he explicitly avoided killing a single member of the Galactic Council attack force. That is spectacularly humane by any standard, particularly considering that the average Benign Intervention crew member was larger than an average Autobot.

Absolutely yes, but until we learned this we had real reason to doubt, with Getaway in particular who has shown utter contempt toward other bots' right to autonomy and life. (Which certainly makes sense given his background. He's not a bad character, he's simply a bad character.)

This doesn't have to do with the quality of the comic, which I have no inclination to defend. It's about the relative morality of the characters, which...I'm also not going to argue, but I'm boggled that it's even come up. Getaway possesses an almost unique malice for the franchise, though on an admittedly small scale.

It's sort of like the difference between finding Prowl necessary and finding Prowl correct.

Well, Megatron probably has laid waste to hundreds of organic civilizations in his expansionistic quest to establish Cybertronian superiority throughout the galaxy so they might be a teensy bit more mad about that.

    That's not really mind-rape.

Like yeah, that's a violation of their right of free thought, but that's like a mind knock out. He gave them amnesia, which he could've done if he just hit them really hard in the head. Hell, Skids did it, too. Actually Skids was worse, as he attempted to forcefully alter someone's perception and character, rather than just making them forget a conversation they had.

Also, he didn't use a thought bullet on everyone, literally just Team Rodimus. Everyone who said yes to the mutiny didn't have their memories of the interaction wiped.

Unless you think the Men in Black mind-raped people daily.

I was refering to how they don't give a shit about the Autobots who Overlord wants to kill. Yeah Megatron I get, but they probably wouldn't be so cruel as to let innocent 'bot die if Rodimus hadn't been such a Rodimus towards them.

Could've been way worse. The thought bullet could've been, y'know, a regular bullet.

To me mind-rape is like being subjected to mental torture. Getting a single conversation erased doesn't seem very... traumatic.

Well a physical object was inserted into their brain, causing behavior to be altered in a way preferable and convenient.

I'm the only one who remembers Megatron's complete freakout when confronted with Chromedome in issue 28, or any of the other hundred times this hugely important theme has come up this season?

I do agree that Getaway is kind of in the right place to get rid of Megatron, its that he's not exactly smart.

    1) He didn't anticipate Megatron to have people still rally to him. he wants Megatron and nothing else, but trying to single out everyone else is rather pointless by this point. He's tried and not its too late. He didn't expect the DJD to show up too, so expect this to weigh on him hard.

    2)
On contacting the GC to get Megatron on the Necrobot's world and spare any Autobots is flawed. He doesn't know if the GC will keep their end of the bargain as all (most likely won't) as all Cybertronians are despised, not just Megatron. Overlord is a means to an end.

Still wish to see Megatron make it out of this to give Getaway a good *THWACK*

Of course, that would indicate that Megatron hasn't learned anything, which wrecks the whole point of all this.

It's ultimately Tailgate who is most profoundly wronged by Getaway, with Cyclonus and Whirl both having pretty substantial grievance too. The Galactic Council is now overstepping its legitimate legal and moral authority, positioning Ultra Magnus as the one to take them to task, as set up in the Annual.

I wouldn't be so adamant in defending Getaway if the narrative didn't present me with people who have done worse and have gotten away with it almost completely scott-free.

Again, Brainstorm and Megatron. Compared to either of them Getaway's scheme is far-and-away small-time, and Getaway at least has some halfway reasonable moral justification.

    nailed it.

the whole shades of grey thing really doesn't work for someone as legitimately evil as megatron.

Okay, I wasn't aware of this/didn't interpret it that way. Thanks for filling me in, I easily miss stuff in comics for some reason.

And I've felt that Rodimus was shit since long before the mutiny, just to throw that out there. Getaway was definitely preaching to my choir there. And like Roberts pointed out, Getaway's dialogue when announcing the mutiny was pretty much what we all said before (and after, of course) Megs' defection turned out to be sincere. The conversation with Ravage really changed my mindset and, like Getaway himself lied in that issue, it's hard to come to terms with the magnitude of so many huge crimes. I reread his trial and found myself rooting for him from the get go.

    It's weird.

For months I've been cursing Getaway and the others for abandoning them to the DJD. And I admit it's been clouding my understanding for Getaway when I so often preach empathy personally. I've been thinking that I understood the mutiny since it happened. But I guess I didn't really until today.

And saying Whirl is worse than him is definitely true as of today. Getaway isn't on the top (bottom?) of my shitlist anymore, I guess. It feels weird to say that since I've been cursing him for half a year. And I can feel myself wanting to find something to say against him because I still feel really negative towards him for his actions. As a character? He's still easily one of the best written we've gotten in MTMTE and would have a comfortable spot somewhere in my top 10 Transformers antagonists.

Hey, maybe MTMTE hasn't completely gone off the deep end if it makes me feel all this? :lol

If Getaway is that manipulative, and to his knowledge, Megatron is weakened, why doesn't he just confront Megatron, shoot him with a thought bullet, and talk him out of his captaincy and force him to, I don't know, perform suicide?

Really, Getaway enjoys being a manipulative bastard. He manipulates Tailgate, the most innocent of all bots! He manipulates Whirl, the most chaotic good bots of them all! He even manipulated THUNDERCLASH, the most heroic, bravest, most-rethorical bot ever!

Getaway just love to be manipulative.

Heck, I believe if Getaway got to Cybertron, he would find a way to manipulate Obsidian to rape Windblade....while blaming everything on Optimus Prime.

On Rodimus as captain: He was an accidental captain. Heck, even Prowl said that no one wants to board The Lost Light. Who wants to follow a rebel who had lead many bots to danger and then leave them like he did on Earth. In the end 200+ bots get on board and his spirit was up. Here's a chance to prove that he is a leader. He was even helped by Ultra Magnus to keep everything in check, and has Rung and Swerve to keep the stresses down. The fact the he is an action-oriented captain adds to his own style of leadership: headlong into dangers. How many lives he had saved? At least millions of the constructed cold ones, and plenty of organics. He helped Prowl with Overlord's thing, yes that's a mistake, thanks God for the safe word. In the end, many of his crew doesn't like him, and that realization forced him to promise to be a better leader next time.

All of that is undone when Optimus Prime sic Megatron on him, making him think that it's just a hassle to change. But still he tried his best to help the situations. Rodimus looked up to Optimus, so he just accepted Megatron put on his ship, but not fully. So Rodimus just then does what Rodimus does best: headlong into danger.

Megatron's heel-face turn after DC really shakes everything up. Millions of years of Dictatorship, and he was betrayed by Soundwave, faced the darkness, and got a change of heart. A drastic change of heart. I wonder if between bodies, the influence of the evil Quintesson got discarded somewhere and the true Megatron: that of the thinker and justice fighter slowly emerges when facing darkness. Then He was thrown into the midst of the strangest mix of Autobots ever, accompanied only by Ravage, and forced to lead them. Here is his chance on redemption, and he took it with stride a plenty. Still, Megatron is Megatron, an aloof leader, but good leader nonetheless, no matter his alignment was.

And comes a long Getaway. I believe years of imprisonment by a fallen persona of justice makes him saw leadership with a twisted vision. Then Megatron was forced to be his captain, so twice now he has to live under a twisted leader. No more, he said, I need to getaway from this situation. So he plotted to kill Megatron.

Thought bullets aren't physical bullets. They're a signal. Nothing physically entered their brains.

Likewsie, blank bullets don't alter their behaviour, they remove memories. It's not shadowplay, it's forced forgetting. They don't change your personality.

Also, Brainstorm basically did the same thing when he poisoned everyone. That's hours of their lives gone. They had something physical put inside them, causing their behavior to be altered in a way preferable and convenient to him. And he did it to far more people.

No, but Megatron had previously been horrifically traumatized by attempted shadowplay. That's why he freaked out. No one else is as traumatized by the idea as he is because they never had it forced upon them.

Mechanicals aren't despised, just look down on. He probably assumed that, you know, the space police wouldn't be so corrupt as to be outright racists. Megatron sure, but honestly not even I would've expected the GC to just leave them all to die. (alas, they are paper-thin villains who are just totally evil and hateful with no nuance or development, instead of actually somewhat respectable at their jobs. :/ )

And what do you want to happen to Megatron?

Isn't Megatron also a manipulator himself? He manipulated half a planet into following him to war.

Well exactly. If this was, like, a super happy story with infallible perfect heroes Getaway would be far and away the most dispicable.

But damn near every character we've seen has done something as bad or worse. And for less understandable reason.

Because the entire point of using Tailgate was so Getaway himself couldn't be implicated. He didn't want to be anywhere near Megatron, lest he be outed as the ringleader.

Shot-callers rarely get their hands dirty. Plus, the whole ordeal was to get Megatron to show his true self and attack so everyone could see he was still evil, not just to kill him. (at that point)

I'm pretty sure Getaway only has the memory-erasing bullets for his nudge gun, not any of the mind-altering ones. Otherwise, he would have done a lot of things differently.

I kinda wonder if Magnus being in the group was sorta meant as insurance against the GC. Doesn't help out now with how things went down, of course, but Magnus knows how to actually deal with them and Fancyhats at least respects him. Getaway might've suspected that the GC might try something and reasonably concluded that Magnus would've given the Autobots the best odds at surviving.

It's been brought to my attention that Getaway did not actually physically manipulate the brains of most of the crew to his own purposes. He was simply prepared to do that to everyone who didn't already agree with him. You know, like a hostage taker who's generous enough not to shoot the hostage after taking possession of the ransom. Still, let's be clear. :)

...of course this interaction also reminded me that annihilating Tailgate was his Plan B. He actually preferred it to this adorable bloodless mutiny, since this was his Plan C. (I'll call siccing Whirl on Megatron Plan A, which actually made sense and didn't endanger any non-volunteers, and his weird pre-coup against Rodimus with Atomizer and the list and the newspaper some sort of Plan 0 / pipe-laying.)

Getaway does things--vaguely, theoretically justifiable things--in a gratuitously malicious way. Even his manipulation of Tailgate would have been pretty easy to pull off without making him fall in love with him, that was just for extra bastard points. (Tailgate was ready to shoot Megatron to death in issue 4! Not a hard sell!)
