I've been on team Getaway since the mutiny. The only truely scummy thing he did was setup Tailgate to be possibly killed, but that's understandable that he'd not be thinking straight when he's so totally justified in his hate and disgust. Especially now that we know Megatron has essentially gotten off Scott free, it's an even bigger piss on the grave of everyone he's killed. Add to that Rodimus' massive character regression and the seemingly pointless and dangerous quest and I'd probably be right alongside him if I were in their shoes. Megatron is, at least, a reminder of great trauma. I doubt any of them were thinking entirely fairly or rationally, nor could I blame them.

But yeah, nice to know he didn't intentionally leave them all to die.

I believe the council will be set up for the big bad for the next season.

It's the little details and foreshadowing that make this comic great.

I love how poetic this is.

    Wait, were you for Trailcutter/
    Megatron
to have control the panic bubble like me or against it? I'm thinking that such a feature would have saved Trailcutter, and would mean the difference between life and death for
    Dying of the Light
. As soon as he spots Kaon, he'd shut it off than get away. No energy for Kaon to suck to overpower him, and Vos II would be too weak to give chase. I suppose Bluestreak and Mainframe could give Kaon a hard time. With that control,
Megatron could sort things out with Tarn and Overlord until he comes to the decision to go Sparticus on their asses.

If Megatron does beat them all, congratulations! He just saved his friends and the organics in the Necrobot's fortress. Ratchet in #54 told Megatron that Fool's Energon was a placebo that did nothing to sap his strength, and all this time he's been keeping his violent impulses under control. He's not weak-minded, he just keeps telling himself that Fool's Energon will weaken his strength to kill anyone he meets. Now that he knows the truth, he can be at peace knowing that he isn't the one to succumb to violence as the first option, but one of many.

The entire point of the panic bubble was to be something he couldn't control. Otherwise that'd just be a normal forcefield, wouldn't it?

I like that the panic bubble is something you can't control. Limits to technology makes it feel more real and actually designed rather than spur-of-the-moment. It also means characters need to think more tactically when using it.

I was just disagreeing with your making it sound like he was dead regardless of whether he controlled it or not. The tragedy of the whole event was that the thing that was supposed to save Trailbreaker ended up sealing his doom instead when it recharged Kaon and stopped Trailbreaker from being able to get away from him.

But like SPLIT LIP said, the entire point of the panic bubble is that it can't be controlled; it was supposed to not require Trailbreaker's concentration to stay up--otherwise, it's just like any other forcefield he can make.

But it's the most relatable one. ;)

Rodimus is a horrible leader. Magnus doesn't have the spine to do anything about it. Whirl is an asshole. Brainstorm is a sellout. Cyclonus is an unrepentant murderer. Megatron is Megatron. Everyone else doesn' seem to mind these transgressions one bit.

I totally get where Getaway was coming from. I know we're supposed to hate him because we're supposed to like the main crew, but all I could think of when he finally kicked them all out was "glad someone finally grew a backbone." Like don't get me wrong, the pointless quest and character faults are what make the story entertaining for the viewer, but it was really unreasonable that every other crewmate was a gormless background mook who didn't have a problem with all this nonsense going on, chief among them the Rodimus and Megatron bits. It really is absurd how Megatron has gotten away without a single ounce of punishment for what he's done, even if it makes for an interesting story, and Rodimus keeps almost geting everyone killed on whims and bad calls, even though without it there'd be no conflict. The mutiny had to happen, it would've been unrealistic if it didn't, and Getaway's probably the character with the most complex and understandable motivations of anyone in season 2.

Not that lonely. I totally understand Getaway's motivation and reasoning for what he did.

Agreed. Getaway is the only normal person in the room. He is watching people fawning over a mass-murderer. I'd be mad too. I might think one life is worthy of sacrifice if it meant getting rid of a Hitler. Megatron is responsible for death camps. He ain't a good guy.

Megatron fought Overlord before he went through the Phase-six process. I don't think Megatron could take Overlord in single combat anymore. Tarn? Maybe. Overlord? Nope.

yup. getaway is the most realistic character in this series. he's the straight man in a comic largely composed of caricatures.

I really, really hope Getaway isn't killed off uncerimoniously as some meta punishment. It'll be a true waste and the ultimate example of assuming the reader's viewpoint. If he could stick around as a morally lopsided manipulator and schemer I think he'd be a great addition to the book. Like an Autobot Starscream, except more effective and less obvious.

I still think Getaway's a massive bastard, but yeah, I can't argue with his reasons for doing any of this, especially now with the knowledge that what's actually transpired on Necroworld was never part of the plan.
Like Community, it's been one of those things where, much as we might love these guys, when you see how they look to the background cast–or just when you look at them objectively–you realise they are the assholes in this situation and what an unfavourable light they're viewed in by everyone else that we rarely see.

Definitely agree that him getting an unceremonious death because that's what "we would want to see" would be a bit of a let down. I'd certainly like to see him become sort of an anti-antagonist (is that a thing?) for Season 3.

Funnily enough in this instance it wasn't an intentional reference. He only realised the similarity after the fact according to the director's commentary he did for #50.

I think Getaway might be more like Annie if the Study Group finally managed to push her way too far. Or Chang...?

Scratch that, Chang really would have sent the D.J.D. after them, haha.

Yeah, like he's still a dick, but so is half the "main" cast. Only difference is he's not complacent, foolhardy, and honestly now more than ever I wish there was more focus on characters like him who aren't "in on the joke."

There is no way to objectively argue that mere incompetence is worse than deliberate, malicious, and repeated mutiny, mind-rape, romantic manipulation of a metaphorical child, and attempted murder.

So enjoy your team, and I can only wish it were lonelier still.

Split, I've been bitching "Kill Getaway" since 47, but... You're talking me out of it a bit. Can't forgive him for setting up Tailgate and insulting Whirl's mental illness, but... You've got a way with words.

I still think it's kind of ridiculous that Getaway seemed to think that Overlord would spare the Autobots; I'm guessing the Galactic Council told Getaway that they've got a tight leash on him somehow? Even back when 50 dropped, I thought it was ridiculous that Getaway expected the DJD to spare the others.

I was really hurt that Perceptor and crew were abandoning the crew to the DJD, but now, what's really happened is that they're just abandoning the crew to one monster instead of a gang of monsters. That is still my biggest beef with the crew and right now this preview isn't softening that blow.

But yes, you're totally right. Getaway and the crew are justified to feel that way. Rodimus has always been shit. But I still can't find myself getting behind abandoning the crew to Overlord.

My petty side still really wants Getaway dead.

It doesn't actually say anywhere that Getaway knew the Galactic Council would be using Overlord. If anything, some of Neech's remarks suggest they just told vaguely him they'd take care of everything.

Came in to say this. Seems pretty obvious to me they didn't let tell him that they had Overlord.

Thank god I'm not alone. It's been super lonely on my end because everyone I know (outside of TFW anyway) treats Getaway like the worst scum of the earth ever. Which is funny, considering his motives and methods aren't half as bad as say, Brainstorm's?

Brainstorm tried to rewrite all of reality to bring back Quark, poisoned the crew, and had the nerve to be sassy about it at his 'hearing', and gets away with it without even a slap on the wrist. Fandom weeps rivers because tragic unrequited love story.

Getaway manipulates a few people and almost gets Tailgate killed because he's furious that Megatron, literal Space Hitler, is getting away with mass Genocide due to a legal technicality that's so old it shouldn't even count anymore. And their captain is an idiot of the highest order who seems to survive literally by luck alone. Fandom wishes him a gruesome death and tries to explain away people like Blaster joining his mutiny as being "clearly lied to/used" despite the fact they might agree with Getaway.

    Makes me mad as hell.

"Mind rape?" Refresh my memory on this one?

Also, you realise that the mutiny is against Megatron, right? Megatron is co-captain with Rodimus, and his list of offenses are far, far worse than mere incompetence. Megatron is, and always has been, his main target, with everyone else just being people he and the others don't want on the ship.

Bitter much? It's a comic, bro. Don't be so personal.

No, it's pretty clear Getaway has no inclination that Overlord is involved.

    Yup.

Make no mistake, Getaway is a bad person. I'm not saying he's justified, just understandable. Not agreeable, understandable. But honestly? No worse than Whirl. Less so, honestly. Whirl is a cruel, vicious, sadistic killer who happily murders pleading, helpless enemies. But he's funny so I guess that's okay. Getaway is a manipulating scumbag and insubordinate, but has actually a damn good reason for it given that the literal worse person in the universe has gotten away with less than a stern talking to.

Megatron laughed whilst slaughtering innocent humans of al ages, wiped worlds clean of life, killed more people than any recorded Cybertronian, and did it all with glee. But he says he feels bad so let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

Getaway Trained and drilled into being a one-bot spec-ops squad with a specialty in thought warfare. A "wrecker done right." He was born mere seconds before being dumped into battle, with no choice in the matter. Spent months manipulating Tailgate to use him as a patsy for goading Megatron into attack. he didn't send Tailgate to die so much as was apathetic to him, because getting Megatron locked up or killed was too tempting to care about anything else. What's more, over 200 'bots agreed with him, because they realised what a farce "Autobot Megatron" is and wanted him gone. Possibly sacrificing one Autobot and inconveniencing a handful more was an easy price to pay for correcting what thay believed to be the greatest injustice in the history of Cybertron.

Now that it's clear Overlord/the DJD was never mentioned to him, it's even more understandable what Getaway and the rest of the crew did.

It's too easy to forget that just because we don't see the lesser characters' emotions, doesn't mean they don't have them. Team Rodimus aren't the only 'bots with complex feelings and nuances and problems. We ignore Brainstorm getting everyone killed, or Rodimus selling out his best friend/almost getting Rung killed, or Whirl for starting the entire war because we see their development. But in-universe everyone is developed.

At worst, Getaway was going to get Tailgate killed. A scummy, villainistic thing to do... but it's peanuts compared to just about anyone else. Rodimus did the same thing to Rung when Fort Max went psycho, except rather than a calculated risk, it was pure and simple childish arrogance.
