Undertaker Prime you're too much. All are worthy.................... but it doesn't hurt if you rough up the competition! ;)

Don't step too far Turbine, you'll get your turn with a room like that!

Phenominal re-assembly job! A quick preservation tip => Krylon UVresistant Clear Coating/

It should help it not to re-yellow after you airbrush.

My bet is that he will get one of the three before I manage to get 75% of my back-catalog completed. :lol  Which is less of a challenge since I got 2 of the 3 "hard to find" pieces in my collection. :p

Oh, and congrats when it comes to the interview. :)

First thing that came to mind when I saw that photo was Prime's parts rolling down the conveyor belt in City of Steel.

If you end up with any leftover parts, maybe you can make an alligator out of them or something :p

Speaking of Devastator, looking for some opinions: I've got both a vintage G1 and the Encore (still unopened). Unless I decide to do a combined + individual mode display I have no real need for both and am debating selling one. Which one should go?

I realize there are both pros and cons to both (ie. vintage is more for the "purists" but I don't mind reissues, and obviously a reissue is fresh and minty) but is there a clear winner? IIRC someone told me the plastic on Encore Fort Max is inferior to the original...made me feel a little better

G1 fans might like to take a look at my new article for Kapow Toys, it charts Shockwave from his pre-Transformers release through to his MP release.

    Thanks guys, enjoy!

Which Encore Devastator do you have? Do you own the regular Encore #20 version, or the 'anime accurate' #20A version? I'll be honest, I also own a complete vintage Devastator AND the Encore #20A version (and a complete G2 yellow Devastator), and I really couldn't let any of those go. These are all significantly different from each other, and Devastator is my favorite G1 combiner.
However, if you have the regular Encore #20 version, I'd let that one go in favor of your vintage version. I don't own the regular Encore, but I've heard it's rather floppy, and it's just inferior to the vintage version.

I just finished and appreciate the fact that you treated both Cloud and Legends as its own portion of the overall franchise. This is mostly due to the fact that I am a fan of the Japanese G1 fiction, and not because the Legends franchise is the only one I can afford to collect. :lol

But I have to pretty much agree with you on the fact that the photos we have seen for Laserwave (or "Legends Shockwave") does lack that certain feel his original counterpart had. I don't know if it is due to him being a remold from the Combiner Wars series, or what. But we shall see since they might make a change that many fans will like.

Oh... And thanks to you, Cloud is now on my "wish list" in terms of spin-off series I hope to collect in the future.

I obviously own the regular #20 version, and haven't handled a vintage Devastator since the 80's so my view is probably a bit skewed. The only thing I'd say I don't like about the encore is that the green seems really bright, like brighter than I remember the Constructicons being. But if I were in your camp I'd keep both because that's how I am. If I HAD to sell one, I'd sell the one that got me more money probably ;)

If you're happy with reissues then I would dell the vintage one (I'd guess you'll get more money for it) and keep the brand spanking new reissue. I have a few g1s from the 80s but the majority of my collection of g1 is reissues.

Probably sends a shiver down the spine of purists but it's my collection so shouldn't affect them.

I enjoyed your write-up on Shockwave, especially that little Alien easter egg. I never knew about that! I used to own both a V1 Quakewave and the gray version as well, but I sold off the gray one last year some time along with the stand. I also own P-29, and he does have his place in a collection, like you stated (either cartoon or comic).

Well put a little wager on it Fenrir Zero, that way it'll keep you focused man!!!

Thanks very much. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad people enjoy my experiences and memories!

    This...very much this!

I completely agree with alldarker. I have both a vintage set and the 20A and there are significant differences in style and colour between the two. If you have just the 20 version and are comfortable with re-issues, then you might as well sell the vintage to someone who needs/wants it. That's the win-win scenario.

No shiver here, you have to do what works for you mcart!

I've decided to experiment with a horribly discolored PointBlank:

Since most of his screws were kinda rusty and I'm already committed to buying another body I thought: what the heck let's see what happens...

I filled a clear dish with H2O2 , put a plastic riser in and laid him down on top with no disassembly. I then wrapped a clear-ish grocery bag around to seal in the evaporation.

I want to see how effective this is and if there are any concerns with additional rusting, even though he's not submerged in the liquid.

    I'll report back :)

Well... Funny thing is that my motivation is tied to my future kids. And I am building up the need to obtain the first 20 pieces. Then have them be graded after I have the rarest ones in the series graded.

Number 2 has been obtained and is ready to be shipped off in September/October.

And you are more than welcome. I also hope your son will want to get the "Titan Class" Trypticon. That way, you both can have one. :)

    Thanks for the feedback everyone!

My Encore is the regular version, had I known about it in advance I probably would've gotten the anime version for the sake of being different. The Encore line came out as I was getting back into collecting so I bought literally every single release at the time, and even though I already owned a vintage I still picked up Encore Devy out of habit.

Looks like I'm putting up the vintage for sale to see if I get any bites
